Chapter 43

Book:The Billionaire's Obsession Published:2025-2-8

Dawn POV
I sat curled up on the bed. My head leaning against the headstand, and the duvet wrapped over my petite body.
I cannot help but think of Henry’s words over and over again.
Thanks to him, I got to be reminded that I’m nothing but a cheap whore.
Is that not why Dad wanted to sell me off?
To his business partner, who happens to be the Miller family.
I sighed for the tenth time, unconsciously fondling with my fingers.
Why won’t everyone just understand? Huh? I just wanna get married to someone I love… is that too hard to do?
Why is everyone so bent on giving me off on a wooden platter? They just want to live my life for me.
“Do you think that whore has any plan for you?”
Henry’s statement replayed in my head, so loud and distinct… It’s as though he’s here with me, casting me his dangerous but mockery glare as he smirked at me.
I don’t know why I still picked up his call last night even after what he’s said to me.
But I had picked up his call before I realized what I’d done wrong.
“He’s going to use you and dump you!”
“He won’t!”
I had defended Ethan yesterday. Cussing my brother because of him.
“Trust me, Dawn…” Henry had said desperately, his tone harsh and cold. ” He’ll dump you as he dumped many others too. Why do you think you’re different, huh?”
And exactly! Why do I think I’m different? Why do I feel special? Why do I desperately want to believe his words? Why do I trust him blindly?
What if he’s using me? What if I’m just one of the random ladies he fuck and dumped
And besides, what the hell is his plan for me? What is he going to do about me being his brother’s betrothal?
I clenched my fist, sucking in another deep breath.
I sounded desperate now. Head over heels for someone who’s never going to love me.
Maybe… Just maybe my brother is right, or I might just trust my instinct and blindly love this man.
The opening of the door jolted me back to reality, and looking up, Ethan strolled in, a faint smile plastered on his lips.
But on seeing my face, the smile eased off his lips and he rushed to sit beside me.
“Are you okay?” He asked with his brows creased.
Am I? I am not.
Lifting my gaze away from him, I sighed softly.
“C’mon, kitten…”
Does he sound a little worried?
Perhaps, he’s changed. Maybe he truly has.
“Talk to me. What’s wrong with you?”
Ethan grabbed my hand. He held my chin up with his index finger, making me stare at his sharp gaze that was laced with worries
I don’t want to think about anything, I just want to blindly believe this man.
The look on his face, the sincerity in his eyes, and the care he gets for me.
Leaning in, I rested my head on his chest, firmly wrapping my hand around his torso.
Well… why should I care about what people say? Huh?
This is all about me anyway…. why should I give a damn about what people said.
They said he’s a player, but he’s tryna change for me.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Ethan mumbled, his hand softly running through my hair.
I closed my eyes, enjoying the feel of his fingers on my hair. I inhaled sharply, inhaling his strong cologne that almost made me dizzy.
“I am fine,” I giggled.
Even if it’s never going to last forever… even if no one is going to support me on my decision, I won’t waste my time trying to prove them right… I will just spend it more with this man with me.
“I just wanna feel your heartbeat.”
Ethan chuckled.
He snaked his hand around my waist and pressed my body tightly against his.
“Listen to that,” he whispered. “Do you hear how loud it thuds?”
Oh yeah! I heard how uneven his breathing was, and how loud of a sound it made.
I wonder whom it beats for.
I raised my head slightly to gaze into his eyes.
“It’s beating loudly… and…” I bit my lower lip, my eyes roving around his good sculpture face before I finally settled them on his tempting lips. “And… fastly…” I giggled.
“Have any idea why?”
“No,” I giggled.
Ethan frowned, he flashed me a playful glare with his lips pouted.
“You…” He mouthed.
Ethan grazed his lips over mine in a brief kiss before he stared back into my eyes. “It beats loudly whenever you’re with me or anytime I think about you.”
I smiled.
That’s a good line… not cheesy, and not common
“If I’m right,” Ethan continued.
I felt his hand move up to my hair, soothingly stroking it.
“Because I love you…”
And this is not the second time he’ll be saying this, is it?
I sighed, pulling away from him.
Alright, I think we’ve got to get something straight here.
Does he love me? And no doubt, I love him too.
It seems fast, quite unpredictable, and strange, but I don’t wanna know how it happened, nor how it’s gonna end.
“What am I to you, Ethan?”
I stared back into his teal eyes, unblinkingly, waiting for his reaction and any strange traces in his eyes.
“To me…”
Pulling the duvet away from my body, Ethan pulled me down to his lap, earning a short gasp from my mouth.
He cupped my cheeks with his palms, his teal eyes fixed on mine.
“Will you believe everything I said?” He mumbled and I gave a few nods.
“Then will you believe me if I said you’re my weakness and my strength?”
What?
Ethan let out a nervous chuckle. I held his eyes, searching for any traces of lie on those teal eyes, but I saw none.
Hey! He’s being sincere
“You’re someone I’m afraid to lose, my obsession….” Ethan continued. “I have no idea how it happened. Believe me, but I’m willing to do anything, prove to you how much I have changed, and go to any length to prove to you how much I love you… ”
I placed my fingers on his lips, stopping him from speaking further.
Damn that! Is he trying to burst my heart from all those confessions? I felt my face heated up, my heart thudding so hard, trying to break free from its ribcage.
“Kitten…” Ethan said… Panicky, “have I said something wrong?”
“No,” I chuckled. “You just sounded a little cheesy.”
Ethan blinked nervously, looking anywhere but at me.
Do not tell me he’s shy? But damn, he’s cute.
Positioning myself well on his lap, I turned his face back at me, cupping his cheeks.
Ugh! I don’t care what people have got to say. A Playboy? A manwhore? I don’t give a damn.
All I know is that my heart beats for this man before me.
“What…?” He mumbled.
“You’re cute.” I let out a sheepish smile.
Ethan passed his tongue over his lower lip, his cheeks going brightly red.
“I thought,” he chuckled nervously. “That you’re mad at me.”
“And why would I?” I teased, “you were so sweet.” I pouted.
Tilting my head forward, I let my lips graze him as I held his collar for support.
“I love you too, Ethan…” I whispered against his lips.
