Chapter 41

Book:The Billionaire's Obsession Published:2025-2-8

I sucked in a harsh breath, unconsciously picking on my fingers. My lips pursed together as I waited for whatever Ethan is going to say or what his reaction is going to be.
I do not want to stay here with him any longer, no! Staying here seems like I’m asking too much, and it makes me feel like a desperate bitch.
I am not supposed to fall in love with him from the beginning, but then again, I guess, my desperation to get away from my dark reality made me fall for a manwhore like him.
“What… what are you saying?” Ethan let out an awkward chuckle, he rubbed his temple and fixed his gaze on me.
Those teal eyes got me hooked completely.
I slowly lifted my gaze away from him, looking anywhere but at him. I don’t want to see the look in those eyes, it made me imagine something impossible.
How could it? Of course, it’s utterly impossible.
Just because he doesn’t want to see me with Cole doesn’t mean he should pull on that act.
I am a human too, I have feelings!
The deal was to give him a head in exchange for staying here.
I have no idea how he managed to hook me so completely that I crave everything about him.
How dare he make me fall for him but still mess around with some girls.
His to-be bride? Ugh!
I mentally scoffed. The thought of that makes my blood boil in anger, it makes my stomach churn uncomfortably.
How dare he, huh? He has a fiancee, and there he was telling me that he loves me.
I fisted my hand, digging my nails deep into my fleshy palm. I let the physical pain take over the one in my heart.
I do not want to cry… That bastard doesn’t deserve even a drop!
“You’re joking, right?” Ethan said again. This time, his voice was harsh and cold.
I shuddered back in fear, quickly blinking back my tears.
Ugh! What’s wrong with him? If I want to leave here, what’s his problem?
“Is this because of what I said?”
“So?” I raised my brows, leveling my gaze with his.
Ethan stared back at me unblinkingly, his teal eyes daringly boring into mine.
“Are you gonna take back what you said?”
“No!” He said firmly.
I released the breath I didn’t know I was holding.
Fine! He’s telling me that he loves me is not soothing, and neither is it something to be proud of, but him eating back his word is not something I want either.
It’s something, I know! Even though it’s obvious that he’s lying about him loving me, I still don’t want him to say otherwise.
“Why?” Ethan breathed out. “You do not believe me?”
Believe him?
I chuckled.
I sat upright on the bed, running my tongue over my suddenly dry lips.
“That what?” I creased my brows.
Ethan sighed again. He plopped down on the bed, and I shrunk back.
Okay! What was that? I don’t want him sitting close to me, I might again lose my mind and change my fucking mind.
“I understand you, Dawn…”
Tell him to stop calling my name that way. Hey! It feels so good that I wanna keep hearing it.
Ethan paused to take in a deep breath. He grabbed my hand, turning my face to himself.
His teal eyes bored into mine…. intimidatingly, daring me to stare back at those mesmerizing eyes.
“Why?” He intoned.
Fuck that tone! I’m not gonna fall for it!
“Why do you want to terminate our contract?”
I chuckled.
“You sure do not think I’d stay here after knowing that I’m betrothed to your brother?”
“Do not….” Ethan gritted out. “Do not lie to me, kitten!”
I let out a short yelp as his hold on me tightened.
Goddamned him! He’s hurting me.
I tried to free my hand from him, but who am I kidding? He’s fucking strong as fuck!
“Tell me the truth, Dawn…” He breathed out angrily.
Okay, I don’t get why he’s looking like an angry volcano. Remind him that I fucking saw him making out with that two-face bitch in his darn office.
“You.. you’re hurting me, Ethan.”
Ethan frowned. His eyes moved too quickly from my eyes down to the hand he held, and his frown deepened.
“I’m sorry,” he mumbled. Ethan released his hold on me and angrily stood up.
I rubbed my hand.
“You’re jealous, aren’t you? Jealous that I was making out with Melinda?”
Ugh!
I huffed. Took him so long to figure that out
And look at him saying that casually as though it’s something random.
Of course, did he not just pick ladies randomly? I won’t be surprised though.
“Say something, Dawn.”
And what does that asshole want me to say? Huh? To tell him that he’s right? Is it not that obvious?
I danced my eyes around the room, looking anywhere but at him.
My gaze settled on the artefact picture on the wall, and I fixed my gaze on it.
Ethan sucked in a deep harsh breath. From the corner of my eyes, I saw him run a hand through his hair.
“I’m sorry,” he breathed out.
What? Sorry?
I gazed up at him, staring deeply into his teal eyes.
I saw something flash through his eyes, but I was quick to avert my gaze.
No! That’s not true! I can’t be seeing right, can I?
Ethan sat back on the bed. He held my hand, this time, gently and softly.
“What…?” I sighed.
He raised my chin with his finger, making my eyes bored into his.
His gaze held sincerity. I want to believe him, but then again, there’s something in my gut that’s telling me to not fall for this blue-eyed demon.
“Give me some time,” Ethan said. “No! Two weeks… a week…” He breathed out angrily, passing a nervous tongue over his lips.
Since when is he nervous when talking to me?
“I changed….”
Change? Tch! I rolled my eyes.
“Fine!” He sighed. “I’ll change. Can you just let me love you, Dawn?”
“As if,” I rolled my eyes. “the deal is to…”
“I do not want your body,” he gritted out…” at least not now.”
Not now? Don’t want my body?
I creased my brows, staring blankly at the man before me.
Does he feel the same about me? How does it start? Huh?
“I sincerely don’t know how it happened,” he mouthed as though he heard my thoughts.
Ethan passed another tongue over his lips, moistening them, making them look more tempting and appetizing.
Alright! I don’t want to see those lips again. It’s making me imagine something naughty.
“You won’t believe me even if I say this. You knew me as a manwhore after all.”
And he lives up to his name! Ugh! Tell him not to act like the victim here!
“Just give me a chance, will you?”
I shriveled back as he held my face, my heart thudding loudly in my chest that I’m afraid Ethan is gonna hear it.
“Let me show you the other side of me, kitten.”
Ethan leaned forward, his lips grazing mine, making me hold tighter to the duvet.
“Let me love you, Dawn.”
