Chapter 26

Book:The Billionaire's Obsession Published:2025-2-8

Dawn POV
Being home was boring, but being in this company is hellish.
All thanks to that classic handsome devil that made me do almost all the goddamned work.
I had only resumed yesterday as his personal assistant, but my body ached so much as though I’d been doing this for decades.
I stopped to rest on the rail to catch my breath, my palm resting on my chest as I inhaled in and out.
Right… Shouldn’t a PA only be responsible for her boss’ drinks and food?
Why am I also making some god-damned photocopy of silly files?
He could get his secretary to do that for him, can’t he?
I bit on my lower lip angrily, tightening my hold on the damn office paper.
“Call down, Dawn. Will you? It’s only for a while.” I tried to console myself.
Yeah! Only for a while.
Straightening myself, I let a faint smile crawl on my lips.
You can do this, Dawn!
“I guess we’re going to meet again.”
“Well, sir.”
A low gasp escaped my mouth when I heard a quivering familiar voice.
No, it can’t be, can it? Bill couldn’t be here right?
Breathing in and out, trying to compose myself and console myself.
No one knows I’m here. Of course, I just resumed yesterday and there’s no way my Dad could have caught a sniff of it
I finally flew my head up, and my gaze landed on a broad back housed in a turquoise blue suit.
Another gasp escaped my lips. That back, and that side profile, I can never forget.
Of course, I’ve known him since I was five and there’s no way on Earth I’ll ever forget him.
How did they know that I’m here? I’m not being stalked, am I?
A wave of fear crashed through me. I felt the cold breeze slapped me hard on my skin.
I did not want to think about it. No! I dreaded reality.
The thought of going back into that mansion and to face my dad made my toes curl. It made my stomach churned uncomfortably and made my skin crowded in goosebumps.
No! I don’t want to. I do not want to go into that mansion… At least, not now.
“I’ll go now…”
Before Bill could turn to my side, I quickly ran into the nearest elevator.
Please God, you have to save me.
Inhaling sharply, I closed my eyes and mentally sent a quick prayer up.
At least, save today.
“Are you okay?”
Wait… That voice! I think I’ve heard that voice before. Where?
Turning to face the owner of that familiar voice, my lips lifted into a smile as my gaze settled on… “Nicole..?”
“Dawn!” He called, eyes widened and lips broken into a light smile.
Hey! He fucking remember my name. And tell me to look away from this man who looks like the prince in my favorite Disney series.
Goddamned it! He’s looking so good in that grey suit he wore. With his shiny black hair gelled to the back, and some strands left on his forehead.
“You remember my name?” He mouthed, his cute and manly smile still plastered on his full lips.
Okay! Tell him to stop or I might just ditch Ethan for him.
“Of course,” I grinned. “Your name is hard to forget.”
Cole chuckled.”I like you.”
Swear, my heart skipped a beat. No! It literally stopped beating.
He.. he likes me?
My face heated up, and my legs weakened.
“I.. I mean… You’re funny.” Cole said with an awkward laugh.
Ah… I got it all wrong.
Blinking rapidly, I lowered my gaze, trying to hide my embarrassed face from his sight.
Right, Dawn! Not what you were thinking.
Isn’t it just normal to say that?
“It’s fine,” I mumbled.
“This is my first time seeing you here,” Cole said. “You’re not here before, are you?”
Now, talking about being here, Ethan would be so mad at me right now. I can clearly imagine his narrowed eyes, his permed lips, his fisted hands as he glared at me.
“No,” I smiled. “I started here yesterday.”
“Oh…” Nicole drawled.
It looks like he wants to ask me something, but he’s restraining himself.
What? What could that be?
Nicole sighed. He palmed his face and let out another sigh.
“So…” He began, “what floor are you going?”
Beat me? What floor am I going? I swear I had no idea. I’ve followed Ethan here, and I had not paid attention when he’s pressing the floor and I’m not even sure if I heard the floor when we arrived.
Great Dawn! Just great! You’ve finally succeeded in embarrassing yourself.
I bit hard on my lower lip, mentally cussing myself.
How could I have not paid attention to such trivial things like that?
“Dawn?”
“Actually…”
Momentarily, I closed and opened my eyes. Fuck! I wish I had some sort of magic that could make me disappear from here.
“What…?”
How do I say that? Huh? That I did not know where I was going. Right! What kind of dumb worker do not know where they work?
Obviously me!
“I…” I ran a frustrated tongue over my lips.
I have no choice. I might never get lucky enough to meet another person who could help me, and fuck me, I’m not even here with my phone if I want to call that classic asshole.
All thanks to him, I’ll embarrass myself before his handsome brother.
“Are you okay, Dawn?”
Of course I am not. How could I when I am just a second away from being embarrassed.
“I… I do not know the floor.” I rushed my words, looking anywhere but at him.
Hey! Tell him not to laugh. No! It’s embarrassing enough telling him that, I might just drop dead if he started laughing now.
I held my breath, silently praying that he didn’t laugh or see me like someone with a low IQ.
“Oh… It’s fine.” Nicole said.
What? Fine?
“I also found it hard on my dad’s office floor, sometimes. It’s okay.”
I know he’s trying to console me. Of course, no one in his right mind will forget his floor. I mean, not like it’s some fucking goddamned mathematics formula.
But then again, I could not help but be grateful. He doesn’t want to make me feel bad.
“You can tell me your department, I might be able to get you there.”
“I work in Ethan’s office,” I looked up at him.
“Ethan? ” Cole sounded surprised.
His brow lifted as he gazed at me curiously as though asking me to start explaining myself.
Explaining myself? On what?
“You work with Ethan?” He asked again and I nodded.
Hm… It’s quite unfortunate that I have to work with that inconsiderate asshole.
“I… Can… Okay,” he gritted out.
Was it me, or did Cole seem to be angry?
I creased my brows, my eyes slowly darting from his face to his fisted hand.
What? Why is he so mad? He looks dangerous right now that I’m scared of staying close to him.
Did I say something wrong? Do something wrong?
“C.. Cole?”
“I’ll get you there.” He smiled shortly.
Cole looked away from me, a frown on his face and his hand still fisted.
Okay… I really don’t know what’s going on. I mean, he’s fucking friendly two seconds ago, and now, he’s pulling up that arrogant angry face.
Is he a two face bitch like his brother too?
“Thank you, Nicole.” I flashed him a short smile as soon as the elevator stopped. “I’ll be going now.”
“I also wanna meet my brother too,” he replied.
Oh! I had no idea that they’re this close.
I nodded slowly before I got out of the elevator, closely followed by Nicole.
Ignoring whatever it is that’s happening behind me, I made my way into Ethan’s office.
“I think we’re done here, Melinda,” Ethan said harshly, flashing the lady before him a glare. “We made a deal!”
“A deal?” The lady, which I presume to be Melinda scoffed. She leaned forward, supporting her legs with the table. “You never tell me it’s gonna be a one…”
“Mel!” Ethan growled.
If anything, he looked more mad and angry as his eyes met mine. His gaze narrowed, his frown deepened as he stood up from his seat.
“Get out of here, Mel. And don’t you dare do this again. You’re just my secretary now. I gave you what you fucking want.”
Melinda huffed. She straightened herself and brushed a strand of her hair off her face. “Fine,” she smirked. “You gave me what you Iwanted, didn’t you?”
And without another glance at Ethan, she turned her back to him.
I quickly moved out of the way, leaving enough space for Melinda to pass through.
Judging by the angry look on both parties’ faces, I guess whatever is going on between them is so intense and huge.
Melinda looked as though she’d chop down anybody’s head that tried to stop her, and Ethan couldn’t look less.
Heck! Who cares? But I am sure that Ethan is definitely at fault.
Well… Isn’t he just a classic asshole? A manwhore who only knows how to fuck.
“I see you’re back,” Ethan finally looked at me, the frown on his face dissolving, but as soon as the door opened, he frowned again.
“What are you doing here, Nicole?” He hissed.
Oh! Nicole. Could this asshole be nice for a bit?
“I lost my way here,” I tried to break the icy tension between the two brothers. “And he helped me out.”
“Helped you out,” Ethan chuckled, and like a flash, he’s pulled me closer to himself, his hand possessively wrapped around my tiny waist.
My heart skipped a beat at the proximity between us. Ah! Ethan has been acting weird lately. He won’t let me even greet the other male workers not to talk of talking to them.
Of course, I am only allowed to stay in his office. Do every goddamned thing in his office, and now, he’s acting like a protective husband in front of his brother.
“Ethan…” I hissed out, trying to wriggle myself out of his strong hold.
“You don’t want to keep that up, kitten.” He hissed. His voice was cold, colder than any I have ever heard.
Hey! What’s going on? And what’s with that glare between the two brothers?
Nicole smiled faintly, he rubbed the bridge of his nose. “I see,” his eyes found mine… “That you finally found yourself a girlfriend.”
What? Girlfriend? To this asshole? Oh please, spare me the bullshit.
I chuckled. “You’re getting…”
“Now you know,” Ethan cut him off, his hand digging deep into my waist as he pulled me closer, sandwiching me between his arm and his chest. “Stop lusting after her, she can never be yours.”
“I…”
“She is mine!”
