CHAPTER 91
ROBERT’S POV
~ As my chauffeur opened the car door for me to get in, I received a phone call from Frank. Normally, in times like this when I was feeling down, I’m meant to ignore the call and perhaps switch off my phone for the rest of the day. But since it was Frank, I couldn’t help but answer it. He was my eyes and ears in the tech space in this journey towards finding Lily. He might have some good news for me.
“Boss, I’ve got a new lead on how to find Lily, and this one will definitely work this time,” his confident voice boomed through the phone speaker. ~
“Really?” My brows raised in slight surprise, my interest peaked as I hesitated a bit before entering the car.
“Yes.” He answered enthusiastically.
“Let me hear it then.” I relaxed back in the seat as the chauffeur gently closed the door. He went round and entered the driver’s seat. He ignited the engines and the car started moving, straight to my office. I couldn’t imagine the workload that would be waiting for me at the office. I had left them to visit the hospital this morning. If only I had a personal assistant like Lily then I won’t have to worry about all that. Carrey was doing a great job but she couldn’t be compared to Lily. No one can.
“I managed to hack into the security system of the prison where Lily served her term over a decade ago. In all the footage of Lily, I noticed she had only one visitor throughout her time there. This person was also the last to visit her, just a few days before she was released. My gut tells me this person is very close to Lily and if anyone knows where she is now, it’s her.”
“Interesting,” I said while adjusting on the seat to hear more. “And who is this person?” I asked curiously.
“Jane Morrison,” he answered. I thought the name sounded a bit familiar. I tried to recall if I knew the person or where I had heard it before, but it didn’t ring a bell no matter how hard I tried. “I ran a background check on her and was able to find her photos and house address from her socials. I’m sending them over now.”
My phone beeped as I brought it down from my ear. I tapped open the messages he sent to check the photos. I jogged through my memory, and that was when it hit me. I didn’t know much about this Jane Morrison. But the little I knew was that she used to be a close friend of Lily. I had seen her come to the office a couple of times when Lily worked as my personal assistant to visit her. The last time I saw her was at the hospital where I took Scarlett for a check-up. She was with Lily then. I haven’t seen her around since then neither do I know anything else about her. Maybe she relocated to another city or something.
Frank was right. If there was anyone who knew where Lily would be right now, it’ll be her. Why didn’t I think of this since? I have to find Jane. Even if she relocated to another city or even another country, I have to find her. I don’t mind the lengths I have to go for it.
My phone beeped with another message. Frank had sent Jane’s residential address. I had thought maybe she had relocated to another city or a faraway place but I was wrong. She still stayed in this city, not so far from where we were passing right now. With a few turns and some shortcuts, we could be at her place in a matter of minutes.
Thank goodness. I breathed out in relief.
“I have sent them boss,” I heard Frank’s voice sound again from the phone speaker.
“I have seen them,” I said. “Thanks. You have done a great job.”
“No problem. It took me days and sleepless nights to go through all the security footage from the prison but it was worth it at the end. I’ll keep searching for other means. If I get another lead on how to find her, I’ll hit you up immediately.”
“Alright.” I jerked my head.
“Right now, you should focus on using this address to find this lady. Let’s see if she has anything on Lily. You can do that today or whenever you’re less busy.”
“I’m going to visit her now,” I said. There was no wasting time on something like this. It will only be to my detriment.
“Great,” he replied before we briefly discussed work and a few other important matters. Then, with a quick goodbye, he hung up.
“Raymond,” I called for my driver’s attention.
“Yes boss,” he answered, looking at me through the rearview mirror.
I brought my hand forward to show him Jane’s house address which was on my phone screen. He slowed down to view it. “Change of plans. I’m no longer heading to my office. We can do that after we’ve gone to this place.”
“I know the street, boss,” he said, returning his gaze back to the road after briefly staring at the screen.
“Get on it then,” I retrieved my phone, put it in my suit pocket and relaxed back against the seat.
Raymond gave a firm nod and took an unexpected turn to another road nearby.
A sense of ease washed over me as I stared at the window. I was only a step away from finding Lily. This time, I hoped nothing would go wrong. After learning of her mother’s death which pressed down on me heavily, this news was just what I needed to uplift my spirit. If this turns out to be good then I don’t need help from my parents’ contact again.
However, upon arriving at the place, I was met by a man with sharp features and a sturdy build, about my age but shorter than I was, who claimed to be Jane’s husband. He said Jane had gone on a trip and wouldn’t be back for a few days.
