Kamrynn’s POV
The past few days have been…eventful. I remember clearly how eager but anxious Rmonica was on the day the DNA test was conducted.
The room had been tense, the air heavy with anticipation as the Alpha broke the seal on the DNA test results. His hands were steady, but his expression was unreadable. Rmonica sat beside me, her fingers gripping the armrest of her chair so tightly her knuckles turned white. I couldn’t bring myself to speak, my heart thundering in my chest as the Alpha read the paper in silence.
“Well?” Rmonica’s voice was small but steady, breaking the heavy silence.
The Alpha looked up, his eyes dark with restrained emotion. “It’s confirmed,” he said quietly. “The child isn’t ours.”
Rmonica gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. Tears filled her eyes, but she didn’t break down. Instead, she nodded slowly, as if trying to convince herself to accept the truth. “Thank you for telling me,” she whispered. “At least now, it’s over. The lies… they’re finally over.”
I reached out to touch her hand gently. “Rmonica, are you okay?”
She managed a small, sad smile through her tears. “It hurts,” she admitted. “But I’m alive. That’s what matters. She didn’t win.”
I understood and I wished I could offer more than just words to her.
“You’re stronger than she ever gave you credit for,” I said. “And you’re not alone in this.”
She nodded again, squeezing my hand. “Thank you, Kamrynn. For everything.”
It had been a very sad day for her but everything completely changed two days later. Rmonica and the Alpha visited a renowned gynaecologist to assess the damage caused by Eloane’s deceitful drug regimen. The moment they returned, Rmonica came straight to my room, her face flushed with excitement.
“Kamrynn!” she called, bursting through the door.
“Rmonica?” I stood quickly, alarmed by her breathless tone. “What is it? What happened?”
“It’s good news!” she exclaimed, taking my hands in hers. “The doctor says there’s still a chance!”
“A chance for what?” I asked, my confusion turning to hope as her words sank in.
She smiled through the tears welling in her eyes. “To conceive. The contraceptive did damage, but it’s not irreversible. The chances are not high but with hormone treatments and a healthy lifestyle, I could still carry a child to term.”
“Rmonica, that’s incredible!” I threw my arms around her, my own eyes brimming with tears.
“It feels like a miracle,” she said, her voice breaking. “I’m so grateful for this chance. After so many years of heartbreak, there’s finally hope.”
“You deserve this more than anyone,” I said, pulling back to look at her radiant face. “I know more than anything that you’ll be an amazing mother.”
“I couldn’t have done this without you,” she said. “You saved my life, Kamrynn.”
I shook my head. “You’re the strongest person I know, Rmonica. You would’ve found a way.”
She smiled, wiping her tears. “Maybe. But it wouldn’t have been this soon. Thank you.”
That evening, Rmonica threw a small dinner party and everyone in the palace, including the maids and guards got to celebrate together with the Alpha and Luna, sharing good food and laughter. Rmonica is honestly one of a kind, I’ve never met anyone quite like her. It’s almost like she brings light wherever she goes and I’ll be one of the happiest people when she finally gets her wish and has a child of her own.
Besides that, I’ve noticed something very crucial. Ever since Eloane was caught and justice served, I’ve stopped having those nightmares about Rmonica. They’re almost like a memory now or even a fever dream. I know it has to mean something. The fact that those dreams started after I entered the palace and encountered Eloane. I have no idea what triggered them and I’m not about to start worrying her head over it. I would rather focus on the happiness I’ve found, I truly hope it all lasts.
My pregnancy has been progressing faster than I’d anticipated.
At six months along, my belly was massive, and it felt like I was carting around an unwieldy watermelon. Every movement was a production, every breath a little heavier. One afternoon, I plopped onto Rmonica’s couch with all the grace of a falling boulder, letting out an exaggerated groan as I leaned back and cradled my stomach.
“This is ridiculous,” I muttered, glaring down at my belly as if it had betrayed me. “I feel like I swallowed a watermelon whole.”
Rmonica set her tea down and smirked. “Well, at least it’s not a pumpkin.”
“A pumpkin would’ve been better,” I shot back, grimacing as I adjusted my swollen feet on the ottoman. “At least pumpkins don’t kick you at two in the morning like these two seem to enjoy doing.”
Rmonica chuckled and leaned forward, placing a hand gently on my belly. “Maybe they’re just practicing their wolf sprints early. You’ll thank them when they win their first Pack race.”
I groaned, leaning my head back. “They can win all the races they want-after they’re out. Right now, they’re just turning me into a sleep-deprived, swollen-footed whale.”
“Oh, don’t exaggerate,” Rmonica teased, her eyes sparkling with humor. “You’re more like a tired goddess than a whale.”
I snorted. “Some goddess. I haven’t slept properly in weeks. If I’m not up because they’re kicking, I’m up because I need to pee. And don’t even get me started on the back pain.”
“Back pain?” Rmonica said, mock-seriousness in her tone. “Ah, the trials of carrying future champions. I’ll make sure the Pack remembers your noble sacrifices.”
I rolled my eyes but couldn’t stop the smile tugging at my lips. “Add heartburn to the list. I swear, I could breathe fire some nights.”
Rmonica’s lips twitched, barely holding back a chuckle. “That just means they’ll have full heads of hair. Imagine that-your twins could come out looking like they stepped out of a shampoo commercial.”
“Great,” I muttered, laughing despite myself. “Hairy fire-breathing werewolf babies. Just what I need.”
Rmonica leaned back and sipped her tea, a sly grin on her face. “You’re carrying legends, Kamrynn. Embrace it.”
