Kamrynn’s POV
I slammed the door to my room and leaned against it, the recorder clutched tightly in my trembling hands. My breath came in quick, shallow bursts as the adrenaline surged through me. I couldn’t waste a second. Every moment I delayed was another chance for Eloane’s vile scheme to unfold.
I hurried to my desk, yanked the laptop open, and connected the recorder. The screen flickered to life, and I clicked through the files, uploading the footage as quickly as the machine allowed. Each second felt like an eternity.
“Come on, come on,” I muttered under my breath, glancing nervously at the door.
Finally, the progress bar reached one hundred percent. I copied the files onto multiple flash drives, each one a lifeline. One went into my bag, another under the mattress. I even considered hiding one in the bathroom, but time wasn’t on my side.
Grabbing the recorder, I slipped it into my pocket and bolted for the door. This was it. It was time to reveal everything to Rmonica. She deserved to know the truth-every ugly, horrifying detail.
I barely made it down the hallway before Eloane appeared, stepping out from a side corridor with her usual smug grin plastered across her face.
“Kamrynn,” she said, her tone sickly sweet. “In a rush, are we?”
My grip on the recorder tightened. “I don’t have time for this, Eloane.”
Her gaze dropped to the recorder peeking out from my pocket. Her smile widened. “What’s that you’re carrying? Something interesting?”
“It’s none of your business,” I snapped, sidestepping her.
She was quicker. In one swift motion, she snatched the recorder from my hand.
“Hey!” I shouted, reaching for it, but she held it out of my reach.
“Oh, Kamrynn,” she cooed mockingly. “Always sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong. Let’s see what you’ve been up to.”
“Give it back!”
Her smile twisted into something darker. “I don’t think so.”
Before I could stop her, she hurled the recorder to the floor. The sound of it shattering was deafening.
“No!” I screamed, lunging forward, but it was too late.
Eloane raised her heel and ground the fragments into the marble floor, twisting until there was nothing left but a mangled mess of plastic and wires.
I stared at the broken pieces, my fury boiling over. “What the hell is wrong with you?”
Eloane leaned in, her voice low and venomous. “Your time is up, rogue.”
Before I could respond, she dropped to the floor, clutching her stomach.
“Help! Someone help me!” she screamed, her voice piercing.
I froze, utterly confused. “What are you doing?”
Her cries grew louder, more desperate. “She pushed me! She pushed me, and now the baby-oh, goddess, the baby!”
“What?” I took a step back, stunned.
Within seconds, the hallway filled with people. Guards, maids, and other pack members rushed toward us. Rmonica appeared first, panic etched on her face, followed closely by the Alpha.
“What happened?” Rmonica demanded, her eyes darting between me and Eloane.
“She pushed me,” Eloane sobbed, tears streaming down her face as she cradled her stomach. “She was angry about her stupid camera and shoved me! I think-I think I hurt the baby!”
Gasps rippled through the crowd, and all eyes turned to me.
“That’s not true!” I shouted.
“How could you?” Rmonica’s voice was sharp and accusing.
“I didn’t do anything!”
Rmonica stepped closer, her eyes blazing with fury. “After everything I’ve done for you, Kamrynn. I trusted you! I welcomed you into my home, my pack. And this is how you repay me?”
“I didn’t touch her!”
Her slap came out of nowhere, the sting radiating across my cheek.
“You’re evil,” Rmonica hissed, her voice trembling. “A rogue through and through. If anything happens to this baby, I swear to goddess Selene, I’ll make you pay for it.”
I swallowed hard, my heart sinking. Eloane had played her cards perfectly, twisting the narrative to make me the villain.
The Alpha lifted Eloane into his arms, his expression cold and unreadable. “Call the doctor,” he ordered.
As they turned to leave, I took a deep breath, my desperation outweighing my fear.
“Wait!”
Rmonica stopped, glaring at me. “What now?”
“You’ve been deceived,” I said, my voice steady. “By her.”
Eloane let out a high-pitched scream, her hands flying to her ears. “Don’t listen to her! She’s lying!”
I stepped forward, addressing Rmonica directly. “What if I told you you’re not infertile? That you can have children, but someone doesn’t want you to give the Alpha an heir?”
Rmonica froze, her eyes widening.
The Alpha turned to me, his gaze sharp. “What are you saying?”
“Eloane has been tampering with your medication,” I said. “For years. She’s been feeding you a banned contraceptive to ensure you never conceive.”
“That’s ridiculous!” Eloane shrieked.
“It’s true,” I insisted. “And that’s not all.” I pointed to Eloane’s stomach. “The child she’s carrying? It’s not yours, Rmonica. It’s not yours either, Alpha. It belongs to her and Raelan.”
The crowd erupted in murmurs.
“You’re insane!” Eloane screamed, her face red with fury.
“Do you want to know the rest of their plan?” I asked, my voice steady. “Tonight, Eloane plans to kill you, Rmonica. She and Raelan have been planning this for months. She’ll use a substance that reacts with the contraceptive in your system to shut down your organs. It’ll look like natural causes, but it’s murder. They plan to get rid of you so Eloane will take your place as Luna. After that, they’ll get rid of the Alpha, too.””
The Alpha’s voice was cold and sharp. “You’re making serious accusations. Do you really expect us to believe this?”
“You should,” I said. “Because it’s the truth.”
“Where’s your proof?” he demanded.
I stilled for a moment and I could see Eloane smirking as she held onto the Alpha tighter. The smile on her face brimmed with confidence, basically screaming. ‘You don’t have any proof because I destroyed it.’
I met her gaze head on. “You might have destroyed the evidence on the recorder. But that’s not everything.”
I turned to the Alpha and Rmonica. “Follow me. I’ll show you the truth.”
