CHAPTER 70- AWAKENING

Book:Divorced In Love Published:2025-2-8

THE SOUND OF THE gunshot kept on ringing in Sydney’s head as she stared at Gavin who was being treated in the hospital ward.
After the capturer had made the stupid decision of pulling the trigger, hell broke loose. People began pouring out of the hall, running for their lives. Luckily, the intimidating-looking kid’s father was a cop, and he had brought his colleagues along with him to the contest.
The capturer barely got anywhere before he was pinned down by the cops.
Seeing Gavin and Sydney’s condition, someone had the bright idea to call an ambulance.
Fortunately, whoever hired the man to kidnap Sydney must have been low on cash because the man seemed like it was his first criminal work.
He had a bad aim, so the bullet penetrated Gavin’s arm instead of his chest.
It had been an hour since she and Gavin were brought to the hospital; she had already been treated.
Sydney didn’t want to imagine what would have happened to her if Gavin hadn’t gotten in the way.
She remembered when they made new marriage vows on their honeymoon night. He said he’d take a bullet for her if she was in danger. She thought he was joking.
He had also said she was the most beautiful woman in his eyes and he would never let her go for any reason, especially not for another woman. She believed that, with all her heart and might she believed.
” You broke your vow the first time, why didn’t you break it the second time?” She held her chest and cried painfully.
The pain in her jaw wasn’t compared to the pain in her heart.
She rested her head on the door and stared at her feet as her tears fell on them.
She stayed like that, alone, for some minutes till she heard someone’s footsteps approaching her and then saw Gabriel’s worn-out oxfords next to her feet.
He stared emotionlessly at Gavin. His fist clenched with mixed emotions.
” I dropped your kids off at Sofia’s, I don’t think it’s safe for them to be all alone in the woods.”
His voice was devoid of empathy.
There was a spark in his head when he heard Gavin take a bullet for Sydney. He was more angered than happy, he knew she wouldn’t stop thinking about him after what he’d done.
It made Gabriel want to go into Gavin’s ward and place the bullet in his heart instead.
” Thank you.” She was shaking from the coldness in her heart and the frosty weather.
Gabriel glanced at her, his eyes dilated taking in her look. There was a bandaid covering her cheek to her jaw and he leg was wrapped in a bandage.
He wished he’d seen the man who did this to her; he would have sent him to his maker the instant he touched her body.
He knew Avery had a hand in this; she would bleed far worse than Sydney when he was done with her.
” You need to get to the house and change into something warm before you catch a cold or worse.” He voiced in concern.
She didn’t want to leave, not when Gavin was still in danger.
” Let me be, I’m fine here.”
” You just got treated, standing here and crying over him wouldn’t help you.”
” I said I’m fine, Gabriel, and I’m not crying over him. I’m just scared.”
Gabriel was about to grab her by the hand and yank her away, then carry her to his home and chained her to the walls, but a muscle jerked in him, pulling him back.
He wanted to punch something really bad.
He never thought twice about taking what he wanted, why now?
His fist clenched and unclenched in frustration.
If he locked her up and chained her, she wouldn’t be able to run from you and go back to her ex-husband later. If you desire her so badly, do it!
Gabriel reached out to her, his hand shaking. He fought off the vindictive thoughts in his head and wrapped his arm around her shoulder territorially.
He brought his lips to her ear and said, ” Don’t be scared; those that harmed you will get their fair share. I assure you.”
She wasn’t hearing anything, her attention was focused on Gavin. She wanted to pull Gabriel’s arm from her. Everything made her restless; the only comfort she needed was knowing Gavin was safe.
A while later, the Doctor and Nurses poured out of the ward. Seeing, Gavin’s bloodstains on the medical tray a nurse held sent a wave of nausea through Sydney’s head.
She didn’t want any suspense. She unintentionally pushed away Gabriel’s arm from her and clung to the Doctor.
” Is he all right? Tell me he’s fine.” Sydney urged the Doctor to speak.
Doctor Zayn gave a reassuring smile and said, ” There’s nothing to worry about; he’s fine. The bullet didn’t affect any vital organs. He’s conscious now and asks to speak to you.”
Sydney nodded gratefully and let the Doctor go. She didn’t think twice and was about to barge into Gavin’s ward when Gabriel grabbed her hand, drawing her back.
She gasped in protest, ” What are you doing? Let go of me.”
His grip on her was firm and protective. It took every blood in his body not to drag her out of the Hospital. Away from Gavin.
” You said you were done with him, what do you think you are trying to do.”
” He got shot, I have to speak to him.”
” And say what exactly?” Gabriel tried to maintain a calm tone. ” What would he think of you when he sees how gingered you are to see him? I thought we’ve been through this, Sydney; he’d think you are still interested in him and try hurting you again.”
” I’m not ready to see you hurt again. Please don’t go to him.” His eyes begged.
Sydney’s muscles slumped. She didn’t realize what she was doing. Thank God Gabriel had stopped her. Gavin would think he has the upper hand again and try to assert dominance.
Gabriel was right but she still wanted to see Gavin.
Sydney freed herself from his grip. ” I’m not going to get hurt, trust me.”
She ignored his pleading eyes and entered Gavin’s ward.
