AUTHOR’S POV
” Are you going to tell me what’s wrong, or are you going to continue acting like a b**ch?” Aaron asked Avery who was putting on her earrings in front of the dresser.
Minutes ago they were on the bed devouring each other. When Aaron hovered above her and was about to thrust into her, she pushed him away and got off the bed.
” It’s none of your business so stop asking.” She said savagely and put on her flats.
Aaron shot out of the bed and grabbed her before she could leave.
Avery tried to disengage her arm from his grip but to no avail. ” Let go of me, Aaron!”
” Since when has your business not been mine? For goodness sake, I’m your boyfriend!”
Her jaw clenched and she moved her face very close to his. He swallowed hard and his grip on her loosened.
” If you want to hear it, fine. I don’t love you, you are a pathetic man. I used you and I’m done now. So, I’m ending this stupid relationship.” She pushed him away aggressively, and he fell to the ground.
” I know that isn’t true.” He got up and grabbed her hand again, this time pinning her to the wall.
” I’ll scream if you don’t let me go.”
” Great! I’m sure the neighbors would think you are having good s! x.” He grunted.
” Aaron, let go of me.”
” I know you love me and-”
” I don’t love you.”
” Yes, you do, and you are going to tell me what’s going on, or else I’ll f**k the truth out of you.”
Bright red tinged on Avery’s face and she quickly looked away. She was in love with him, but there was no way she’d let it ruin her plans.
” Aaron leave-” She paused when she felt something hot rise in her throat.
Aaron looked at her with a puzzled expression. ” Are you okay?”
Avery tried to respond, but all that came out was a puking sound.
Aaron noticed her face blanch. His eyes widened; he quickly carried her and raced to the bathroom.
Aaron patted her back as she puked into the sink. His eyes caught the pregnancy strip test in the waste bin.
He picked it up and his eyes widened when he realized Avery was pregnant.
When he turned to her she was staring at him with a scowl. He chuckled happily and pulled her into a tight hug.
” You are pregnant!” He shouted in elation.
Avery pushed him off her and walked out of the bathroom. He followed her still holding the pregnancy strip.
” Did you think I won’t accept the baby? Is that why you are upset?”
Avery halted and turned to him coldly. ” That’s not why, Aaron; if the baby was yours, I would have told you earlier.”
Aaron felt like a bucket of ice fell on him. He burst into laughter, waiting for her to join him to laugh.
” I’m the only man who has made love to, you told me that yourself.”
” I lied, Aaron. I lied.”
He snapped. ” What the f**k do you mean by that! That child you are carrying is mine. We could get married and start a family, why are you making this so difficult.”
Avery wilted slightly but covered it quickly with a rigid look. ” You are a very delusional man.”
Aaron held his breath for a while trying to contain his anger.
He turned to her and grabbed her by the shoulder and then asked in a soft tone, “Fine, you f**ked another guy; how the hell-how do you know the baby isn’t mine?”
” That’s because it isn’t yours.” She jerked her shoulder away and headed for the door.
He barked, ” That’s the most bullshit answer of the year.”
Avery slammed the shut almost deafening him.
She knew the baby was for him, and the test results confirmed it. Starting a family with Aaron seemed like a sweet delight, but she wouldn’t let it ruin her plans.
So, she decided to take the pregnancy to Gavin instead.
” A woman is here to see you, Mr. Reed; she said her name is- what’s your name again?” There was a hint of disdain in the receptionist’s voice.
” Avery White.”
” She said her name-”
” I heard her, let her up.”
The receptionist sounded skeptical. ” But she’s the Fallen’s daughter.”
Gavin’s silence signaled to the receptionist that he wasn’t pleased. Gavin ended the call and leaned back in his chair, his expression stern.
Why was she here? He had warned her never to show up in his workplace. His mind resonated back to the name his receptionist had called Auxanger making his blood boil.
Auxanger used to work under his father, Christopher Reed. Auxanger got a promotion when Avery and Gavin started dating.
The family grew a tight bond ever since until Morgan’s daughter got pregnant. It caused a lot of damage to Christopher’s mental health; he was broken to hear his infamous son got a girl pregnant.
Christopher spent loads of money trying to satisfy Caleb’s impossible demands; his company had started to crumble, so he had to let some staff go, including Auxanger. Christopher gave Auxanger some money to start up something.
To his dismay, Auxanger squandered the money within a few months on gambles and alcohol.
” What is it, Avery? I warned you never to show up in my workplace.” Gavin hissed.
Pretentious tears flowed down her cheeks taking Gavin aback.
His tone changed. ” Are you all right Avery?”
She shook her head. In a watery voice, she said. ” I should have been more careful.”
” Can you cut to the chase Avery?”
Avery nodded and looked at him. ” I’m pregnant for you Gavin.”
Gavin stared at Avery in bewilderment. Had he heard correctly, or was his ear playing tricks on him?
” Are you sure you are pregnant?”
Avery nodded.
” And the child you are caring for is mine?”
Avery gaped at him with blurry eyes. ” How can you ask that? I haven’t slept with any man but you in a long time.”
Gavin muttered a vile word and got up from the chair. He stood in front of the large window and ran a hand through his hair.
How had he been so stupid to make love to her with protection? Of course, she’d get pregnant!
He was still married to Sydney, today is their anniversary. How’ll she react when she finds out about this? No, no she wouldn’t care.
” Gavin you aren’t saying anything.”
Gavin turned to her immediately, ” What the hell do you want me to say?” He barked.
Avery’s anger was tested. She wanted to scream an answer he wouldn’t like back to his face, but instead, she broke into tears.
” Gavin, this child is your responsibility, like it or not. I can’t raise it on my own. I’m barely financially capable of taking care of myself; I can’t do this alone.”
Gavin stared at her as she cried. No matter how much he didn’t mean to get her pregnant, the baby was his. The baby had his blood and he couldn’t reject it.
” It’s fine Avery… It’s my baby, too; I won’t let you take all the responsibility.”
Avery gasped as if surprised and ran to him, pulling him into a hug.
” I thought you wouldn’t accept it. I’ve always wanted to be the mother of your child, thank God.” She pulled away and reached to kiss him but he slid away.
Gavin sat at his desk and pulled out his checkbook from the drawer. He flipped it open, revealing a stack of blank checks. He grabbed a pen and began to fill out the date, the name of the payee, and the amount. Avery watched with anticipation as he wrote out the check.
” Get enrolled into prenatal. Use the remaining money to take care of yourself. My home is open if you want to move in.” He handed her the check.
She collected the check before he could reconsider. She almost danced with happiness. ” Of course, I’ll move in today.”
” Suit yourself.”
When Avery left, Gavin stood by the window with a dismal look on his face. Maybe this would make Sydney accept the divorce.
He wondered why she didn’t want to divorce him despite being in love with another man.
The hum of a jet propeller broke into his reverie, and he gazed out the window, watching as a plane flew by. He could recognize the distinctive name emblazoned to the side of the jet.
Patel.
