Jade’s pov:
As to be expected, Camelia objected at once, “You don’t know if you can trust your third in command or anyone really. Besides, you’re perfectly fine, aren’t you?”
Alex seemed to ponder her words for a moment, but his eyes turned black at once, a sign that his wolf wanted to take over, “I will rip you to shreds, witch…”
At that point, Luc didn’t hesitate to give her a powerful blow on the back of her head, thus rendering her unconscious.
“We’re in this together. I will drink the milk and the olive oil, along with you,” I told Alex in a soothing tone of voice.
He shook his head negatively, “No.”
I didn’t know what he was objecting to exactly, but stood frozen in my spot, as I waited for his next words.
“The baby will get hurt,” he said in his deep alpha voice, and his eyes, albeit still black like night, were definitely tender on me.
“Give me that,” he then instructed Trevor, who handed him both the olive oil and the milk without delay.
After drinking more than enough of both olive oil and milk, Alex dashed to the bathroom. We could hear him throwing up, and my heart went out to him at the thought that he had been betrayed by someone he called a friend.
“So, you’re pregnant, Luna Jade?” Luc asked me, a soft indulgent smile on his face.
“I am,” I told him shyly, my lips stretching to mirror his smile.
“The pack will be ecstatic,” Trevor let out at once. “I know we are.”
“That, we are,” Luc agreed with a nod, “best news of the fucking week.”
Soon, Alex emerged from the bathroom, a weary expression on his face, his wolf now at peace and no longer surfacing at will.
He hung his head in what appeared to be shame for a moment there, before focusing his eyes on the unconscious witch.
“She offered me cookies,” his words were tinged with regret, and it was all I could do to keep myself from blurting out everything I felt about this despicable witch. “I only ate one thankfully.”
“One did more than enough damage,” Luc quipped darkly. “Can you imagine what would have happened if Luna Jade hadn’t come to your office?”
“The effects could have been everlasting,” Trevor nodded gravely.
“You appeared to be on some kind of mission when you entered my office earlier,” Alex let out as he hugged me tightly and nuzzled my neck.
“That’s because I sensed your wolf’s distress,” I told him sincerely.
He let out a noncommittal sound in answer before saying in a firm tone of voice, “Throw the witch in the dungeon. The stench of her damned perfume makes me want to throw up all over again.”
“Weren’t you the one to buy it for her?” I asked at once, my jealousy still flaring at the mere thought that had I been too late to come to Alex, the witch would have won, and made him hers.
He put some distance between us and looked at me in earnest, “I wouldn’t offer a perfume to a woman that is not my mate. You wound me.”
“But the witch didn’t have any perfume in her belongings, alpha,” Trevor objected at once.
“And save for her meetings with you, she barely left her cabin,” Luc went on.
“Her fragrance could be but another means to confuse us all,” I let out grimly. My anger knew no bounds. “Heavens I want to make sure she never sees the light again,” I went on in a somber tone of voice.
“She won’t,” Luc nodded at me, seemingly ready to make sure my wish would be fulfilled.
Alex shook his head at me and said, “You’re pregnant, love. I read that pregnant women need to avoid all stress.”
“You knew?” My eyes misted with tears as I asked him so.
“Naturally,” he nodded, “But I thought you couldn’t tell yet, hence you had yet to get checked out and had yet to come to me about it.”
I shook my head negatively, “I knew. Right from the day my father passed away.”
“That’s our cue to leave,” Trevor let out seriously, and Luc made some noncommittal sound in the back of his throat in agreement.
As we were left alone to talk out our differences, Alex led me to the sofa. He sat down, and right as I was about to sit next to him, he made me straddle him.
I smiled at him, and he soon began to stroke my cheek lovingly. I could only melt into his touch and lean into his hand. This closeness and intimacy was something I had missed as of late, and now I reveled in it, having craved it during our distant time.
“You knew before I did,” he told me in a soft tone of voice. “And yet, you didn’t tell me.”
I blushed, even though it wasn’t so much a reprimand but more like genuine concern.
“I must be one awful mate to not deserve to know,” he sighed even as a self-derisive smile stretched his lips.
“You’re a wonderful mate,” I assured him before pecking his lips chastely. “I was just wary of the witch, and I acted accordingly.”
“I would rather drink acid than allow her to hurt you or our pup,” he told me in earnest, a fire burning in his eyes.
It was my turn to caress his face, and he closed his eyes at the touch.
“No more secrets, Jade?” He whispered in a soft tone of voice.
“No more secrets,” I whispered back before leaning over so he would hug me.
“I truly thought she could help the pack,” the simmering anger behind his regretful words was unmistakable.
“You thought you could trust her,” I let out softly. “She proved herself unworthy of your trust, and turned out to be every bit the deceitful witch Trevor and I thought she was.”
“Trevor did warn me strongly against her,” he nodded, even as his hand caressed my back lovingly.
“Enough talk about the damned witch,” I growled playfully. “I don’t recall doing it on this couch.”
My tone of voice was as needy as it could possibly be, and my mate was as usual ready to go.
“Let me just close the door,” was his immediate answer as a wolfish smirk popped on his face.
