It was Friday afternoon, a few hours before the Moon Ball. Tyler and I had just finished sparring and were headed to the packhouse when a convoy reached it. One flamboyant red sports car stood out among the black SUV.
Soon enough, Alex and his parents were at the door of the packhouse, welcoming the guests in.
The door of the sports car opened at long last, revealing a curvy brunette who could not be a day older than twenty. She wore her hair long and had sparkling baby blue eyes.
A few quick steps and she was flinging herself at Alex who sidestepped just in time, thus making her stumble.
Another stalker, I thought to myself with a snort.
“Xander,” she whined, much like a child who had been denied candy.
“Myra,” he greeted her coolly.
And then, he avoided her touch as if it burnt him. But she was much too persistent and decided to glue herself to his side.
I rolled my eyes inwardly as Tyler and I made our way into the pack house. Alex had been busy and we had barely interacted at all the past few days. To say I was disappointed would be the understatement of the century. I was utterly disheartened. But I knew deep down this was for the better. I wasn’t sure I was ready for the heartache. Minimizing our alone time was for the best. That way I could not delude myself into believing I was someone special to him.
After a quick shower, I went down to the kitchen to fix myself something to eat.
Since the stars were never in my favor, Alex emerged from the office at the exact moment I sat down on one of the stools.
“Hey,” he greeted me casually.
“Hi,” I waved at him weakly, knowing there were too many guests and I could not allow myself to embarrass him.
He opened the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water before sitting on the stool next to mine.
His proximity was maddening, coupled with the fact that I had been denied pleasure for a few days already, and it was the perfect recipe for a disaster.
I let out an involuntary moan once I began eating my sandwich.
He stiffened from beside me and said in a husky tone, “Care to share some, Jade?”
“I can make you one quickly,” I offered in a soft tone.
I sensed a presence behind us but didn’t care enough to see who it was. He merely grabbed my hand and leaned forward to bite on the sandwich I had been chewing on.
His eyes crinkled in delight as he looked at me. “Delicious,” he observed after that mouthful.
I blushed a deep crimson and resumed eating, taking very small bites because of my embarrassment.
“Xander,” Myra called for his attention as she sat down on the stool next to his.
He merely acknowledged her with a “Hmm?”
I was about to bite into my sandwich again when he leaned into me and said softly, “Another bite if you please?”
I blushed anew. Myra glared at me as I brought the sandwich up to his mouth, thus feeding him in a gesture that was so intimate, one would think we were a loving couple.
He chewed at leisure.
“Thanks, love,” he whispered loud enough for me to hear, and probably for his brunette stalker as well.
“Anytime,” I said almost reflexively.
“Xander, is it fair to me that we only see one another on The Moon Ball?” She purred seductively, completely dismissing me while I tried to finish my sandwich in a hurry.
By doing so, it was no wonder that I choked a few seconds later. Alex gave me a bottle of water and patted my back soothingly. I drank the water greedily before thanking him.
“Anytime,” was his sweet response.
Realizing it was the same bottle of water he had drunk from earlier, I blushed again.
“Must you eat like a pig, girl?” She commented in a chiding tone of sorts.
I looked at her levelly, sensing my anger flare, I growled, “Mind your words.”
“Did you just growl at me?” She shrieked. “Do you even know who I am?”
“No but I’m sure you’re going to tell me,” I rolled my eyes at her.
“I’m the daughter of the crescent moon pack’s alpha. And I will be your Luna one day.”
“And I should care because?” I scoffed, focusing my glare on the man sitting next to me.
“Delusional,” Alex let out as he shook his head negatively.
His response to her claim made me relax ever so slightly.
“Xander,” she let out in a whining tone, “say something.”
“I did. I said you’re delusional,” he told her apathetically. “And for the last time, Myra, call me alpha.”
I jumped out of my seat and went to rinse my plate in the sink while the she-wolf stormed off.
I was drying the plate with a kitchen cloth when firm strong arms encircled my waist.
Nobody would dare touch me except for him Alex, my alpha.
He bent down and placed a soft kiss on my left shoulder, making me quiver. I placed the plate on counter and held onto the sink.
“Shouldn’t you be going after your future Luna, alpha?” I let out through gritted teeth.
No matter what his response might have been to her claims, she wouldn’t have said such a thing if she weren’t led to believe so… at least that’s how I reasoned.
“Is that jealousy I sense, love?” He chuckled against my neck.
“Ha!” I scoffed. “I’m not delusional enough to believe I have any sort of claim on you.”
His arms tightened around me some more while he rested his chin on my head. “You wound me, love.”
“Right,” I chuckled humorlessly. “Puh-lease, if the big bad Alexander Bad had to be known for one thing, it would be his conquests.”
“You’ve heard too many rumors, Jade,” he sighed.
“They’re only rumors if they’re fake, alpha,” I told him dismissively. And before he had the time to even breathe out a word in response, I carried on, “Now, if you’ll excuse me. I have to get ready.”
I wasn’t sure if it was my tone or my words that got to him, but he released me.
“I’ll see you later, Jade,” he said in parting, his choice of words telling me this whatever this was wasn’t finished.
