17. More Than A Crush

Book:The Alpha's Possession Published:2025-2-8

After Alex pleasured me like there was no tomorrow, he straightened up and put himself back together. I could not believe I was barely a step away from having him take my v card though we both resisted the urge. I was just glad, however, that my parents were still on duty for my moans would have surely been hard to explain.
His eyes were oh so soft on me, and I almost deluded myself into believing there was something special between us. But I wasn’t an idiot. I knew that I was just the plaything of the month. I knew that no matter our chemistry, I shouldn’t fall for him… only my crush for the man was so much more than just a crush nowadays. And I feared for my heart. I was utterly scared of the heartbreak to come.
As I slipped on a night gown, he bent forward and placed a soft kiss on my lips.
“Kindly behave from now on, love. I’d hate to have to take over my knees and spank you in front of your friends.”
I whimpered and throbbed with need at that, and he merely smirked in response. Another kiss to my lips, and he left my room.
He was such a devastatingly handsome man… He had such a commanding and dominant presence… I could only wonder how an alpha such as him, many years my senior, had taken a fancy to little boring me. But who was I to complain? I should thank my lucky stars instead.
Besides, he was such a generous lover, what woman in her right mind wouldn’t want to be his, if only for the night?
With a smile on my face, I slipped into lala-land.

The Moon Ball was in three days. The pack house was buzzing with life, and Alpha Alex and I barely had any chance to interact. Admittedly, he was too busy more often than not, and I had my exams coming up so I spent more time studying, instead of nurturing my one-sided feelings.
Mom had just barged into my room, demanding to know why I wasn’t excited about the ball.
“You know that dressing up isn’t for me,” I told her in an exasperated tone. “Why would I want to wear an overly expensive dress, put an uncomfortable amount of make up on, and put on killer shoes, just because everyone would expect such a thing from the female population of the pack?”
She sighed before regarding me levelly, “What would you rather wear, Jade? It’s a ball.”
“Well, I’m a nobody. Even if I miss it, no one will notice.”
“Oh sweetheart,” she cooed. “Don’t be like that. You might be surprised.”
I rolled my eyes. “Fine, let’s compromise: I’ll buy a freaking dress. No high heels. And just a decent amount of make up. No going over the top.”
She nodded at me, her eagerness showing on her face.
We had to go through several stores, at the mall of the neighboring town, before I finally found a dress to my liking. I wasn’t usually picky, but since I was not going to wear heels, I figured the dress should be a good one.
A stop at the food court later, and we went back to the pack house.
Alex, Luc, and Trevor Alex’s third in command were at the door of the pack house, ready to go out, looking stiff, when we parked the car. Alex rushed to my door, opening it, glaring at me before helping me out.
“What’s wrong?” I asked in a confused tone.
“You were not home,” he said gruffly, his eyes dark, worried, and angry.
“I went shopping with my mom,” I told him softly, not sure why he was over reacting this way.
“Mrs. Falls, kindly inform me the next time,” he said in a clipped tone. “We were about to organize a search party.”
“Yes, alpha,” she said, and I could almost sense her smile even though I didn’t see it.
I rolled my eyes at him and went to retrieve my bags from the trunk.
Luc and Trevor merely snickered while Alex growled.
I felt like there was something I missed. Like there was something I wasn’t aware, a detail only I didn’t know. But I brushed off the feeling and focused on going to my room.
“Jade,” Alex called out. “My office.”
I clamped my mouth shut, repressing on the urge to protest, and headed back down.
Once I was inside, I looked at him and asked, “What’s the matter, Alex?”
“You gave us a scare,” he let out angrily.
“Right!” I scoffed. “I’m just a nobody around here. For all intents and purposes, I am just a wolfless girl. Why would my absence affect anyone?”
His eyes expressed his disbelief. “You truly think so?”
“I know so,” I shrugged.
He shook his head negatively at me in a disapproving manner, and then he told me in a soft tone, his green eyes boring into mine, “I was worried out of my wits.”
My heart thudded in my chest at this statement of his, and I averted my gaze so that he wouldn’t be able to figure out how much his words affected me… and boy did they affect me!
“Believe me when I say my very existence would be very bleak if anything were to happen to you, and I would probably also fly into a rage.”
“Alex,” I let out breathlessly.
And just as I was about to carry on, and say something overly stupid, there was a knock at the door.
He instructed whoever was at the door to come in. And soon enough, a middle age couple entered the office.
They looked at me briefly, their gaze showing their puzzlement as Alex greeted them softly, “Mom, dad… You’re here early. I wasn’t expecting you before tomorrow.”
“We wanted to surprise you,” his mother said softly as she went to hug her son.
I smiled and was about to make a hasty retreat, when she asked, “Who’s this, Alex?”
“Didn’t I tell you a family joined our pack two months ago? This is Jade Falls.”
“Hi,” I squeaked out meekly as I waved at her.
As soon as greetings were exchanged, I escaped Alex’s office. My heart was trying to make its way out of my chest and I was blushing for whatever reason my body saw fit.
I wondered if Alex’s parents approved of his ways… Although in the werewolf community maturity age was sixteen, and thus matings and everything was allowed from the age of sixteen, that was only because coming into one’s wolf occurred at sixteen. But I had no wolf to speak of. Would Alex’s parents approve of whatever he and I had?
