Marshall’s POV
Sickening.
What was happening in front of me was very sickening.
After that talk with that stupid witch, I had to stay home for a few days, thinking about my next move.
I couldn’t believe how she had walked out on me and said such terrible words to me!
Who exactly did she think I was? I was the best Beta there was in all werewolf territories!
Not only that, I loved Berta with all my heart, yet she made it sound like I was obsessed with her when I wasn’t.
I loved her more than life itself!
I looked at Berta, then at Clyde, who was talking further ahead with a low sigh.
They were both smiling, and that, to me, was a very bad scene to witness. Not only that, it made my stomach churn.
“I feel very upset,” I whispered silently to my wolf.
“We can’t let the witch or Clyde get to us,” he growled.
“You are right; they shouldn’t get to us. No, they can’t get to us. Just because she has refused to help us doesn’t mean we should give up, and just because Clyde is smiling at her doesn’t mean the spell is completely lifted,” I answered calmly.
For them not to pick up my scent meant they were so into their conversation that they didn’t even care about me, and that was what made me very furious.
I was about to move when I heard the sound of a car approaching.
I reluctantly turned and looked at Riff’s car as it drove my way.
He parked a few meters away from where I was and stepped out with a female Beta.
I quickly put on my best smile as I approached them.
“Riff,” I greeted with a smile.
He smiled back and went around to grab the she-wolf’s hand.
When he moved closer with her, I raised a brow.
“Is this the most beautiful she-wolf who has my pup’s heart?” I asked as she smiled while moving her free hand to her cheek.
“Dad, this is Sophie, my mate. Sophie, this is Beta Marshall, my dad,”he introduced .
“Welcome to the pack, dear,” I said as she quickly moved her hand forward.
I shook it with a wide smile.
“Thank you, sir,” she answered, but my smile faded when Clyde and Berta approached us.
“That’s why Sky hadn’t detected anything, huh? It seems our own beta has returned,” Clyde made a lame joke.
My gaze was entirely on Berta as she greeted Riff and his mate.
When her eyes met mine, I instantly smiled and moved to her side.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t here to see you every day. I know I said I would be back, but I needed to rearrange my things back at my old house,” I said as Clyde looked at me seriously.
“What?” he asked in a cold tone.
Damn it! I didn’t want him to find out before my shift was completed.
“Riff!” Sky’s loud, excited voice called as he stormed out of the pack house.
Riff quickly let go of his mate’s hand and moved to meet Sky halfway.
“Alpha,” he greeted when Sky placed his hand on his shoulders.
“It’s good to have you back,” he said softly.
I was surprised when Sophie quickly rushed ahead as Glen came out of the pack house. She moved in front of him, bowing her head low.
Everyone looked at her in silence. Her submission was absolute for her Alpha.
“Sophie, welcome to the pack,” Glen said with a smile.
She raised her head for a second, only to bow again when she looked at Harley.
“Luna,” she whispered.
“Oh no, I’m not that yet. I…..,”
“You are the acting Luna of our pack, with or without a ceremony or mating,” Sky said loudly.
“Sophie,” Glen called as she looked at him.
“Stop with the bowing already,” he said as she stood up straight.
“You both must have had a long, tiring drive. How about you get some rest?” I asked seriously, knowing very well how they would fall for my concern and decide to go in.
“You are right. Harley and I will show Sophie around the pack quickly before she settles in,” Sky said with a smile.
“Thank you, Alpha. I’ll go and unpack the luggage from the car,” Riff answered.
“I’ll help you,” Glen said with a smile.
“Alpha Glen, you don’t have to do that; I can do it by myself,” he answered as Glen chuckled and walked past him, going to his car and ignoring him.
“Berta, you should go in. Let me lend a hand to those two,” Clyde said as she frowned.
“I can also help,” she protested, but Clyde shook his head.
“No, you should go in,” he answered seriously.
“How about I walk her to the door?” I suggested with a smile, seeing how my plan was falling into place.
What I wanted was some alone time to talk to Berta, even if it were just a few minutes.
“Actually, I think you are the one who should help with the luggage, seeing how you are just a beta and that pup is yours,” Clyde said as I looked at him coldly while holding back a growl from my wolf.
His disrespect and words were meant to piss me off, and it was working.
“I apologize, Alpha, but I want to talk to Berta for just a few minutes,” I answered seriously.
“Sure, please do so while I am here,” he said as I laughed softly.
“Clyde, why are you treating Marshall like this? He is your Beta,” Berta said softly.
“I only see a rival when it comes to him,” he answered as she frowned.
“What do you mean by that?” she asked seriously.
“Come on, I’ll walk you to your room,” he said, grabbing her hand and ignoring her question.
“What are you doing, Clyde? I have to be there when Sky returns,” she said while she walked with him.
“Yeah, yeah, darling, we will be there, but for now, I want you to rest for a few minutes,” he answered softly.
Back then, she hated the sight of him. Even when she came into the pack, she didn’t like to be very familiar with him, yet here she was, happily letting him touch her.
What the fuck even happened in just a few days I wasn’t here?
While I kept thinking of ways to find another witch who was good with black magic, they were here working things out.
I needed to act quickly! I needed to find a witch or wizard who could be selfish and greedy enough to want something in return.
I was willing to pay any price if it meant getting Berta away from him.
“How about killing Clyde?” my wolf asked.
Right! If Clyde was completely gone, we would have Berta all to ourselves, and we wouldn’t have any competition!
My wolf was really a genius!
