Edith’s POV
“Sir, I will do everything in my power to help you, so please do tell me what is wrong,” I said seriously.
When he called me back to the pack, I was busy celebrating with the rest of my family over Lillian’s pregnancy.
I wanted to tell him how busy I was, but then it clicked that my Alpha really liked Alpha Sky a lot. Helping him out would only strengthen the bond between the two packs; that’s why I agreed to meet him.
“There was a witch who did a favor for me in the past. She used to reside in this broken castle we are seeing. I wanted her to help out again, but as you can see, it seems she has moved,” he said as I looked at the castle.
It was so obvious that the owner of the castle was dead. I could feel it because of the powers I had.
“I’m sorry, but I’m certain the owner of this castle is dead. I don’t know if she died or was killed, but I can’t seem to sense her soul,” I said seriously as his expression turned cold.
“Damn it,” he whispered softly.
“Sir, you know I can do a lot more than what most people think is impossible. So do tell me what you need help with, and I’ll assist you to the best of my ability,” I said seriously as he moved his hand to his head, scratching his scalp.
“Promise me you will help me no matter what,” he said as I raised a brow.
No way was I going to promise him that. What if his request was to kill Jace and Lillian?
“I apologize, Sir, but I can’t promise you anything, but I do know that I won’t judge you,” I said as he dropped his hand and then sighed heavily.
“Fine, I’ll tell you,” he said seriously.
“So, in my pack, before I even became an acting Beta, I had a crush on this she-wolf. She not only completely captivated me; I enjoyed talking to her or just watching her from afar,” he said and then cleared his throat.
“I wished for things to forever be that way. I never thought she would one day be mated to another because in my mind, I was so sure she would end up being my mate,” he said sadly.
“But she turned out to be the Alpha’s mate. The same Alpha who was my childhood friend,” he said as I looked at him intensely, trying to figure out where his story was going.
“I thought she felt the same way I did because whenever she spoke to me, she had a happy expression on her face, and there were times I thought she wanted to be with me more than anyone. So imagine how I felt when her mate turned out to be my childhood friend,” he said furiously.
He obviously felt terrible; that was a given. Who wouldn’t feel bad if the one they had a crush on turned out to be mated to their childhood friend?
“So was your friend terrible to her?” I asked softly.
“No, he wasn’t. He actually worshiped her very existence and loved her truly. Yet the more I observed them, the more I felt like I would go insane,” he answered.
“My jealousy was going out of control, and I couldn’t handle it. That’s why I chose to seek help from a witch who practiced dark magic,” he said as I widened my eyes.
“My gosh, what did you do?” I asked seriously, knowing that an ancient witch was usually skilled at doing things that went against the forces of good.
“I wanted her to only look at me; I didn’t think it would be so bad,” he said as I took a step closer to him.
“Sir, please tell me everything if you want my help,” I said seriously.
“I wanted her to love only me and rely on me; that’s why I came here to make a bargain with the witch,” he said.
“Sir, what did you request her to do?” I asked seriously.
“She was to make Clyde heartless so Berta could leave him and be with me,” he said as I felt my heart ache.
This was the first time I was hearing of a Beta doing such horrible deeds to his very own Alpha for his selfish gain and desires.
“But it seems the witch was an amateur because her spell went crazy. Like I even gave her a few of my damn years! Can you believe that?” he asked as I slowly shook my head.
What was shocking wasn’t the years he gave away, because each forbidden spell had a price to pay. What was shocking was the fact that he would go so far as to destroy his own childhood friend’s happiness!
“Instead of making Clyde heartless, he turned out to still love Berta! What he hated was his weak pup, Glen. And not only did he contribute to Berta leaving the pack, but I lost the very person I wanted to hold on to,” he said as I widened my eyes in disbelief.
“For years, I wasn’t sure if Berta was still alive or dead. I lived most of my years in regret. She was all I could think of and dream of,” he said in a low tone.
“And then she came back to the pack from nowhere, all well and alive, and she treated me like a damn fucking sibling. Can you believe it?” he asked at the top of his voice.
“She was looking at me like a damn brother, even though I had been looking at her as the only love of my life!” he exclaimed.
“I couldn’t even bring myself to love my one and only mate or even love my own pups that much. She was the only one I could cherish and deeply give my heart to,” he said.
“Wait, let me get this straight: the reason why you are here is that you want to redo the spell all over?” I asked.
“Exactly. I feel like Clyde is breaking through that spell, and I don’t want that. I still want Berta to hate him and only rely on me,” he said as I kept quiet for a few seconds, thinking of ways to kill him.
How could he do that to Sky’s mother and father? He had no ounce of remorse or love.
What I had learned in all my years was that true love was selfless and kind.
Wanting to see the very person you loved happy was what mattered the most.
The bastard in front of me had no love or remorse. To me, it seemed like an obsession rather than anything.
I raised my hands and took a deep breath, focusing my energy on one point to open a portal.
When it opened, I smiled at him.
“Sir, I apologize, but I can’t be of any help to you. I suggest you give up on your wicked quest because if you truly love the Luna, you will allow her to be happy,” I said, and then walked into the portal, feeling sad about how wicked he could be to his own Alpha.
