Glen’s POV
I stood at the door with a smile, looking at my mother talking to Harley in her bedroom.
Harley looked very happy, and I could feel it just by looking at her face.
“What is it?” Sky asked beside me.
“I never thought I could ever see our mate this happy,” I whispered softly.
“Well, brother, we made that possible,” he answered and then walked to them, sitting on the bed and wrapping his arms around her waist.
She quickly looked at him with a shocked expression and then back at our mother, who laughed softly.
“You don’t need to feel shy, Harley. Our kind tends to be possessive and occasionally handsy,” my mother said, causing her to blush.
“Anyway, I’m sorry for disturbing your sleep; I just wanted to greet you,” she said as she stood up.
“You don’t have to apologize, Mother. I feel so happy to see you here. Actually, I am the one who should apologize for not welcoming you when you arrived,” Harley answered as she quickly moved from the bed and stood up.
She couldn’t hide the respect she felt for her because it was evident in her body language.
“You really are a kind daughter,” my mother whispered as she walked over to me.
“I’ll be resting in my room,” she said, and I quickly grabbed her hand.
“Let me walk you to your room then,” I said, and she smiled.
“Okay,” she answered.
We came out of the room and slowly walked down the hallway.
“When your brother invited you to go with him, I had no idea he meant forever,” she said. I stopped moving and faced her sadly when she stopped too.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mention that part clearly,” I apologized sincerely.
“It’s not that I am upset, but I was concerned,” she said.
“Mother, you don’t have to be here. I know things ended on a bad note with Dad. Seeing him around or talking to him might not be pleasant for you. How about you go back?” I asked softly as her expression turned cold.
“No, I won’t do that,” she answered seriously.
“I’ve seen him act differently, but that doesn’t mean I trust him. It’s only been a day, anyway. I’m not leaving now, not until I’ve stayed a while and made sure he truly has no ill intentions toward you,” she said.
“Mother, I care about you deeply, and I am very concerned about you,” I whispered.
“That’s exactly how I feel about you too. I won’t let you go through a hard time because of him,” she answered seriously.
“What exactly will you do if he treats me badly? You can’t win against him,” I said, trying to raise a point.
“He loved me; that’s part of his weakness. If he treats you badly, I know the right words to say to him or what to do that could shatter him,” she answered confidently.
“Is that so?” Dad’s voice came from behind.
We both turned and faced him as he stood in front of us.
“What words or actions can you take that haven’t already broken my heart?” he asked seriously.
“For example, I could always get a sexy lover in human territory and make sure to parade it through the news for your ears and eyes,” my mother answered in what sounded like a playful tone.
I thought Dad would laugh and just ignore her, but I was surprised when his expression turned cold.
“Wouldn’t that force you to act differently?” she asked seriously.
“Have you forgotten that you are still my mate?” he asked back seriously.
“Mate bonds can always be broken,” she answered coldly as his eyes turned murderous.
I quickly grabbed my mother’s hand, getting ready to pull her behind me if he decided to attack her in any way.
When he smirked, I was astonished.
“So you don’t have a lover; that’s good to know,” he said happily as I looked at my mother with a frown.
“That’s none of your business,” my mother answered as she turned and began to walk away.
“Come on, Berta, let me be proud in peace knowing you don’t have one. Like I too have none, and I have never taken one!” Dad screamed out shamelessly as my mother continued to walk away, ignoring him.
When he shifted his gaze to me, I tensed.
“What is it, Dad?” I asked nervously.
“Does she really have no lover?” he asked seriously.
“I don’t think so; in all my years, I have never seen my mother with a lover.”I answered as he moved his hand to my head, ruffling my hair gently.
It was a lame act for an adult like me, yet I found myself laughing softly at his actions.
“Son, what do you say I win her over so we can become a family again?” he asked softly after he dropped his hand.
I knew my mother was the one who had to decide everything, but I couldn’t just shut my damn mouth.
“She loves roses and gardening a lot. Whenever she is tired, she prefers a hot bath with scented candles. She hates being proven wrong, and she has a weakness for the color pink,” I said as he smirked.
“She hasn’t changed much in all those years; I’m glad,” he whispered, then walked past me.
I quickly turned to look at his back.
“Dad,” I called softly.
He turned and looked at me with a chuckle.
“Do not worry, I’ll be respectful. I’ll do everything in my power to make us a family again,” he said, then turned back and walked away as I moved my hand to my chest with a smile.
There was something about him that made me feel so happy.
When my cell phone rang, I pulled it out of my pocket and answered it, seeing that it was Sophie.
“Yes, Sophie,” I answered seriously.
“Sir, there is something serious I have to tell you,” she said as I raised a brow.
“Are any of my clients giving you a hard time?” I asked with concern.
“No, Alpha, I am just letting you know that I will be closing the company soon because I will be coming to that side and joining you,” she answered as I remained quiet in shock.
Sophie was a very hardworking submissive Beta. My needs came before her own. Moreover, there was never a day she had ever asked anything of me.
“May I know the reason?” I asked seriously.
“Alpha, you know how I have served you without question or wanting anything in return, right?” she asked.
When I couldn’t respond, she continued.
“But that was before I met my mate. Now that I have met him, I want to be with him,” she said seriously.
It made sense that she wanted to be with him. Moreover, I was here, her Alpha; if she was to serve me, she had to be by my side.
“Okay, you can come here,” I answered.
“Sir, do you realize that I mean forever?” she asked seriously.
“Of course I do. I will find someone who can take over for us,” I answered simply.
“Thank you, sir,” she whispered in a cracked voice.
“Sophie, I want you to be happy. If your happiness lies in being with your mate, then so be it,” I said seriously as she sniffled.
