Sky’s POV
“Was that really okay?” Glen asked with concern.
“What?” I replied simply.
“The way you talked to our father,” he answered.
“For someone who tried to kill you, what I showed him was mercy,” I said seriously.
“But he is our father,” he whispered.
“And that doesn’t make him any less of a murderer,” I replied, then moved my hand to his shoulder.
“Brother, are you seriously feeling sorry for him?” I asked softly.
He remained quiet and shifted his gaze to the side.
He was truly kind as an Alpha. Did he not know that most Alphas didn’t reason or show mercy to those who backstabbed them?
“Brother, if I were in your position, would you do nothing about it after finding out the truth?” I asked seriously.
“I definitely would,” he answered quickly as he looked at me.
“That’s exactly what I did: protect you from him hurting you in any way. Now, what’s left to do is for you to get stronger,” I said, then dropped my hand.
“How will I get stronger?” he asked.
“You need training,” I answered simply, then smiled.
“You are in luck because I, too, feel a little out of shape, so how about I teach you a few moves?” I asked as his face instantly lit up.
“You would do that for me?” he asked seriously.
“Of course I would,” I answered honestly.
“Then, in turn, I will help you with any paperwork. I’m quite good with contracts and going through some documents,” he said.
“That would actually be appreciated because I have a few documents I haven’t gone through yet,” I answered.
“I may not seem like it, but I do run a few businesses. I came up with that idea in order to help the pack,” I said.
“Excellent, I can be of help then,” he answered happily.
Most packs earned their wealth through ambushing and conquering weaker packs.
But then there were a few who believed in not shedding unnecessary blood. They either worked hard in cultivation or ran businesses to help the pack prosper.
I neither wanted to attack innocent packs nor focus on cultivating, which is why I decided to start a few businesses.
Although I had good ideas and had studied a bit on how to manage them, I didn’t have much time to oversee them personally. So, I left most of the responsibilities to a few capable pack members.
Did I trust them?
Absolutely not. If there was one thing I had learned in life, it was to never trust anyone too easily.
I knew them, but not very well. I also knew they feared me. Yet, they had a habit of misusing resources and money whenever they thought I wasn’t paying attention.
I wanted my Beta to take over, but he had his own responsibilities-and so did his sister.
“Sky, what’s wrong?” he asked.
I brushed my hand through my hair and then let it drop back to my side.
“Brother, I know this may sound selfish, but I need your help,” I said as he frowned.
“Sure, how can I help?” he asked.
“I want you to be the brains of this pack,” I answered.
“What?” he asked in a low tone.
“I want you to take full charge of the businesses while I handle the rest of the pack’s needs and a few critical documents. Is that too much to ask?” I asked seriously.
He was quiet for a few seconds, then leaned forward, pressing his hands on his knees.
“Why?” he asked in a whisper.
“Why what?” I replied.
“Why do you trust me that much?” he asked, standing upright.
“Because you are my brother,” I said firmly.
“Might I remind you how much I hated you not so long ago? I didn’t even respect our mate. I’m a terrible Alpha,” he said, his voice heavy with regret.
“Might I remind you how I terribly disrespected our mother and resented her? I also wanted to kill you when I knew what you had done to our mate,” I said sincerely.
“You had every right to,” he answered.
“But then there is always more to people than one can see. I discovered how our mother wasn’t evil, but our father was. I also understood how hard things were for you. No one in their right mind would have acted like you did after going through such hardship,” I said.
“If you were capable of apologizing to our mate wholeheartedly and respecting her, then you are more than capable of letting go of the sad past,” I said, then smiled widely.
“I see you now, Glen, not you in the past, and I don’t know how, but I know when you are sincere. Not because of what we are, but because of our shared bond as twins,” I said, then was surprised when he moved and hugged me.
“I won’t let you down, brother; I swear on the moon goddess,” he said seriously.
I hugged him back and then pulled away.
Swearing on the moon goddess was a sacred thing for all werewolves. Whenever one swore on her, they were bound to keep their word.
Failure to do so meant that something bad would happen to them; that was our belief.
“I have no doubt about that,” I answered, then turned and pointed to the desk in front of us.
“This office was mine, but now it is yours. Unless you want to go back to human territory,” I said.
Although I asked him to come with us, that didn’t mean he had decided to stay here forever.
“Thank you for this amazing office, Sky, and do not worry. I choose to stay where our mate stays. This place is now my home,” he answered.
“Good,” I said, then walked to a table with whiskey, grabbed the bottle, and opened it.
“Tomorrow will be a busy day, so be prepared because the pack members have to officially welcome you,” I said, grabbing a glass and pouring some whiskey into it.
“Here,” I said, moving closer and handing him the cup.
He took it and sipped from it.
“I won’t lie; I am very nervous,” he said.
“That’s good because that means you are looking forward to it,” I answered, then took a mouthful from the bottle and swallowed the bitter contents.
“After you drink up, I’ll show you to your room, then Harley’s and mine,” I said as he raised a brow.
“You aren’t sharing it with our mate?” he asked seriously.
“Oh no, I’m not one to rush things or force myself on her. Whenever she wants either of us or both, she will show,” I answered as he looked down sadly.
“It would be a miracle if she ever wants me,” he muttered.
“Please stop being hard on yourself; our mate is the kindest soul I have come to know next to our mothers,” I answered simply.
He looked up and then smiled.
“I wish that day would come sooner,” he said.
“It will,” I answered simply and then watched him take another sip.
With time, she was going to want us both; that I was very certain of, be it in bed or out of it.
