Molly’s POV
My eyes were sore, and my heart, as well as my head, was aching badly. I felt powerless, and my throat was hurting.
I couldn’t eat or hear what my parents were saying; all I could do was see them. Everything that went on in the years Victor and I were apart was now playing in my mind.
Back then, I had no idea, but it was so obvious that the time he refused to pick up my calls or delayed in texting me, he was with her.
While I was struggling with my heart, he was there happily going on dates. While I seriously worried about him, he was there asking for another woman’s hand in marriage.
While I pushed myself to work hard, he was happily settling down with his new wife.
I sniffed, ignoring the sound of the door opening as tears rolled down my cheeks.
When I picked up a beautiful scent that only came from Paul, I slowly forced myself to sit upright.
Harley, Mr. Brown, and he were standing at the door.
“Molly,” she whispered and tried to move when I glared at her.
“What do you want, Harley?” I asked at the top of my voice, stopping her.
She had a pained expression on her face.
“I don’t know what you want, but I don’t need your pity or care. Just go back to your perfect little fairytale and leave me alone,” I said.
“Perfect little fairytale, right,” she whispered sadly and then lowered her gaze to the floor.
“Having no parents and growing up in a stupid orphanage that haunted me was indeed a perfect fairytale,” she answered and then looked at me sadly.
“That’s not what I meant,” I whispered.
“Molly, I am truly sorry for what you are going through,” she said softly.
“Yeah, I am dying and lonely,” I answered in my mind.
“Harley, can you please leave?” I said seriously.
“You too, Paul,” I forced out the words.
He approached me and sat at the edge of the bed facing me without a word.
I wanted him to leave, but seeing his expression just made me feel so vulnerable.
“I am so sorry,” I said huskily, with tears clouding my vision.
“I know I agreed to be with you, but then when I found out he was married with a kid, I couldn’t stop the pain I felt at that moment. I felt….”
“Betrayed,” he finished my sentence.
“And so used because I worked so hard to pay his tuition, apartment, and college funds,” I cried.
“I understand because I gave everything I had and was to someone who saw me as a mere pawn. Tears couldn’t show the pain I was in, and I even contemplated ending my own life,” he said sadly and then smiled when he looked me in the eyes.
“But then I had family and friends who saw my worth. They loved and encouraged me at my lowest. They held my hand and told me it was going to be okay,” he said as he grabbed my hand in his.
My headache instantly vanished, and my heartache reduced.
“And when I met you, my mate, I knew there and then that my pain was not in vain. If I had met you while I was still hung up on that she-wolf, I would have never seen how amazing a woman you are. It took me letting go of her to see the most amazing thing I could ever acquire or wish for. And that is you, my mate,” he said, then moved his free hand to my cheek.
“I will be enough for you, Molly, because I will love you more than my very own life. I will cry with you when it hurts, and I will laugh with you when you are cheerful or happy. I will not use you in any way, nor will I ever leave you, because you are who I want to be with, love, and protect forever,” he said, tears filling his eyes.
I moved and wrapped my arms around his shoulders, crying as he held me back gently.
“You will be alright, I promise,” he whispered.
After crying for a few minutes and feeling better, I pulled back, wiped off my tears, and then looked at Harley, who stood crying silently. Mr. Brown had his arm wrapped around her shoulders.
He had a pained expression on his face, and that was all my fault.
I slowly moved from the bed and stood up.
“Harley, I am so sorry for being selfish and a horrible friend to you,” I said sadly.
She quickly ran in front of me, hugging me.
I hugged her back and smiled.
“You are never a bad friend, so don’t ever say that again,” she answered.
When she pulled back, she laughed softly.
“I am so happy to see you,” she said.
“I am happy to have you here as well,” I answered, and then looked at Mr. Brown.
“Sir, I am truly sorry to show you this pathetic side of me,” I apologized.
“It’s okay, Molly. Right now, I am not here as your boss but as a friend,” he answered.
“I understand what you are going through, so don’t even force yourself to go back to work. I will talk to Sophie, and if it’s okay with you, you will be moved to a new cleaning department as a supervisor,” he said, surprising me.
“You will do that for her?” Harley asked, in what sounded like disbelief.
“Of course! She has been so hardworking and a very good worker in my company. She is also your friend and a part of our family. So, I see no harm in moving her up the stairs,” he answered as Harley hugged him without warning.
He looked shocked for a second but smiled and hugged her back.
“Alpha,” Paul called softly, getting his attention.
“Thank you very much for doing this for my mate,” he said.
“Um… Thank you very much, Sir. I am at a loss for words,” I said sincerely.
Not only was the pay going to be very good, but every company advisor was given a simple car and their own new apartment to live in.
“You don’t have to thank me; I just did what was….”
“How long will I wait outside the room?” a familiar female voice asked, cutting Mr. Brown off.
“Oh my goodness, Edith, do come in,” Harley answered loudly.
Edith walked in and looked at me with a smile.
“Look at you, looking all ugly because of crying,” she said playfully.
“I’m sorry,” I answered and then chuckled softly.
She moved closer and stood next to Harley.
“Since everyone is playing the saint here, I will play the hero,” she said and then extended her hand to me. I hesitated but gave her my hand.
When she closed her eyes, a bright light began to glow from our hands, and soon it turned so blinding that we had to shut our eyes.
After a few minutes, we opened our eyes only to see her smiling.
“What was that all about?” Paul asked seriously.
“Her heart problem is cured; she can go and have a check if she doesn’t believe me,” she answered as I looked at her in disbelief.
“If I were you, I would believe her, because even though she looks nothing like it, she really is an ancient witch,” Harley said.
I was in denial and surprised.
“As I said, you can always do a check-up,” she added, and I smiled happily.
“Thank you, Edith. And if it’s not too much to ask, could you be a hero to my mother and father as well?” I asked seriously.
“Of course,” she answered.
I smiled and then stepped closer, wrapping my arms around Paul’s waist and resting my head against his chest.
He was becoming the blessing and light in my life-the kind I thought I didn’t deserve. Just like Harley and the others were.
