Sophie’s POV
I knocked on Mrs. Brown’s door twice and waited patiently for the Delta to open it.
When Glen called me and said that I should take care of his important guest, I quickly began to organize the best room, food, and a few things for our guest.
If he was important to Glen, then he was also important to me. That’s why I was going to do my very best to make the guest happy and comfortable. After all, I was Glen’s Beta, and part of my job was to assist and follow my Alpha’s orders.
I was about to knock again when I stopped myself.
My wolf began yelping in joy, and shortly, the scent of our mate filled my nose.
“No, there is no way he could be here,” I said to myself and then chuckled.
It was so obvious that I was missing him; that’s why I was beginning to imagine things.
When the door opened and he looked down at me, I felt like my heart could stop.
His hair was wet, his shirt partially unbuttoned , and though his trousers were zipped the button at the top was undone.
I swallowed hard, running a hand through my hair as I began to laugh.
After a few moments, I loosened the top two buttons of my blouse, fanning myself with one hand to catch my breath.
“It’s obvious. Isn’t it ?” I asked, staring at the image of my mate that had taken over my imagination.
“I haven’t had sex in years, and because I overwork myself to exhaustion, I’m now hallucinating you my mate who can never leave your pack for me, “I said, laughing hysterically.
My words seemed to shock him, as his expression froze in surprise.
“I’ll just close my eyes and imagine you away. After that, I’ll fix my clothes and knock again,” I said firmly, taking a deep breath to calm myself. Closing my eyes, I willed myself to focus.
Suddenly, I felt lips press against mine, and tingles erupted through my body. Startled, I opened my eyes and instinctively stepped back, only to lose my balance.
Before I could hit the ground, strong arms wrapped around my waist, steadying me.
“Easy,” he murmured huskily.
My gaze snapped to his face, and I cupped his cheeks with trembling hands.
“Oh my goodness, you’re real,” I whispered in disbelief.
“I am,” he said with a smirk, “and I’m willing to kiss you for the first time just to prove it.”
“Let go of me!” I demanded, flustered.
He released me, stepping back to give me space.
“Also, what do you mean by ‘willing to kiss me for the first time’ when you already did?” I asked, raising my voice in frustration.
“Sweetheart, don’t flatter yourself; that was a mere peck,” he answered calmly as I coldly glared at him.
“What? Can’t you tell apart a mere peck from a kiss?” he asked.
I sighed heavily, then turned without a word and began walking away.
“What are you doing?” my wolf asked.
“Walking away from this playboy, as you can see,” I answered.
“But why?” she whined.
“Because he is a jerk! I can’t believe he kissed us without our consent!” I yelled silently.
“But he is our mate,” she growled.
“Don’t give me the damn attitude,” I warned.
“Sophie, are you seriously leaving?” he asked loudly.
I ignored him and continued walking.
“What will your Alpha say when he hears about how you mistreated his important guest?” he asked loudly, making me halt my steps.
“Please, just come back,” he said loudly.
I turned and walked back to him. He had a smirk on his face that said, “I thought so,” and I hated that.
When I stood in front of him, I grabbed his hand and put my car keys in it.
“Please drive yourself wherever you want. I’ll just make a call and book a cab right after I grab my phone from the car,” I said, and then dropped my hand.
“Oh, and one more thing, do tell Glen everything is okay. I am willing to take up any punishment rather than stand here and entertain you,” I said seriously.
I was about to turn when he grabbed my hand.
“Sophie, did I do something wrong?” he asked in a low tone as I looked at him seriously.
“You tell me,” I replied.
He let go of my hand and then buttoned his shirt.
“I apologize for coming out looking like this. It’s just that when I picked up your scent after taking a bath, I couldn’t waste time dressing up,” he said seriously.
“To be honest, I didn’t want to wait another second to meet you. I missed you a lot after you left our pack,” he said sadly and then forced a smile on his face.
“I am also sorry for kissing you without your permission and for saying things that must have angered you,” he said.
I didn’t want to show it, but I was very surprised. A second ago, he looked like a prideful guy who didn’t care much about how I felt. But now, he seemed like a decent guy who really did care about how I felt and his actions.
“I still don’t trust you. For all I know, you might be planning on kissing me again and calling it a peck,” I said, then frowned when he burst out laughing.
“What’s so funny?” I asked calmly.
“How can I do that after seeing how it makes you uncomfortable? The only reason I kissed you in the first place was because of your words,” he said as I recalled my own words.
“Shit, I came off as pressed and desperate, didn’t I?” I asked seriously.
“No, you just came off as inviting and irresistible,” he answered.
I smiled and then extended my hand to him.
“What?” he asked.
“Give me the car keys, Mr. Guest. I will drive us to the company,” I answered.
“Not a chance. I am not letting you drive. Also, I am called Riff, not Mr. Guest,” he answered.
“Why can’t you let me drive? Is it because I am a woman?” I asked.
“Woman, female, male, or whatever you are, it doesn’t matter to me,” he answered seriously.
“Ever since I was young, I have always wanted to be the one to drive my mate wherever she wanted. That’s why I apologize if I sound insane or selfish right now,” he said.
“That’s so sweet of him,” my wolf purred.
“Yeah,” I answered silently.
“Then I’ll greet and pay my respects to Mrs. Brown; after that, you will drive us to the company,” I said.
“Your wish is my command, my Queen,” he answered and then smiled.
I grinned and smiled back.
He really was something.
