Paul’s POV
I was pissed off, very pissed off with her.
How could she say that to me? And on top of that, she was engaged! Was this my punishment for disappointing my friends?
“You made your point, Moon Goddess. I am so sorry for being messed up and stupid,” I said loudly and then stood still.
“Just please let me have Molly. I promise to treat her right and love her with my whole heart. I don’t want to lose my given mate, so show mercy, Moon Goddess,” I said in a low tone.
I was feeling very sad, and now that I was thinking things through, it wasn’t her fault that she was engaged to someone.
She had no idea about me, and even if she did, she wouldn’t have wanted someone who was stuck on another she-wolf.
“Are you talking to yourself right now?” Riff’s voice came from behind.
I rubbed my forehead and then turned to look at him.
“Yes, I am,” I answered seriously.
“Mm, you are an honest, crazy fellow, aren’t you?” he asked when he stood in front of me.
“Not really, I just did that because I feel frustrated,” I answered simply.
“Is it because of the Alpha, or is it because of your mate?” he asked.
“Both,” I answered.
“Well, my Alpha is a very nice guy when you get to know him,” he said as I shifted my gaze from him.
“That’s a given,” I muttered, then looked at him.
“It looks like I caught you at a bad time,” he said as I folded my arms.
“What exactly do you want?” I asked seriously.
“I need Alpha Jace’s phone number,” he answered.
“And why is that?” I asked.
“Seriously? Are you going to ask me such a question right now? Do you think I would do something despicable to an Alpha?” he asked seriously.
“No, but I think you would nag him to death on the phone,” I answered.
When he raised a brow, we both began laughing.
“Nag him to death! Are you serious? Where do you even get such a thing? You are really funny, Gamma,” he said with laughter.
“It just came to mind,” I answered between laughter and sighed softly.
“Anyway, why do you need it? Do you want to insult him?” I asked seriously.
“No, I don’t. He asked me to call him whenever I needed help or to talk to him,” he answered.
“I see. Please memorize it or write it down,” I said.
He removed his cell phone from his pocket and unlocked it.
He wrote the digits as I said them and then smiled when he was done.
“Thank you very much. Oh, by the way, are you coming with us?” he asked.
“Of course I am. There is no way I’m letting my mate be alone,” I answered.
“That’s great because we will be making a stop at your pack first,” he said as I coldly looked at him.
“It’s not what you are thinking; I really just need to talk to your Alpha,” he answered.
“Fine,” I said and then began to walk away.
“We leave in an hour,” he said as I ignored him.
“If it were up to me, we could have left tomorrow, but I don’t think Sky will wait that long,” he screamed out.
“Okay,” I answered and then went into the pack house and to my mate’s room.
When I reached the door, I took a deep breath and knocked once.
I was surprised when the door was immediately opened.
“Were you waiting at the door?” I asked, then became shocked when she moved and wrapped her arms around my waist, resting her head against my chest.
“What is it?” I asked softly after wrapping my arms around her.
“Did Sky say something bad to you?” I asked with concern.
“No,” she answered in a low tone.
“Do you not feel well?” I asked.
“No, I am okay; it’s just that I thought you were going to leave without saying a word,” she answered.
I carefully pushed her back and looked into her eyes.
“I can never do that,” I said seriously.
She lowered her gaze to the ground, then looked at me.
“I am so sorry for upsetting you,” she apologized.
I smiled and then swept her off her feet and went into the room.
“You don’t have to be,” I answered and then sat down at the edge of the bed with her on my lap.
“I thought about it when I went out and came to realize that it wasn’t your fault at all. This man you are about to marry, you met him before me, and you obviously love him a lot. If I had met you sooner, maybe I would have had your love and a chance to be the one to wait for you at the aisle,” I said.
She looked at me with a sad expression on her face, then raised her hand and touched my cheek.
“Why do I feel terrible, like I committed a grave mistake in telling you about my engagement?” she asked.
It was definitely because of the mate pull, but then again, if she wasn’t going to be with me, then there was no reason for me to explain or tell her the truth.
“It’s definitely nothing,” I answered and then moved her from my lap and stood next to her.
“I will be going with the others, as you will. I’ll remain at my pack, and you will proceed to go to Glen’s house or company. I don’t know what more to say, but I guess this will be the last time we have such a conversation,” I said as her facial expression changed.
She looked pale and terrified.
“I would have liked to be your friend; sadly, my consciousness won’t let me. That’s why this will be our goodbye,” I said.
“I will kill you, Paul,” Snow warned, surprising me.
Since we started off and came to this pack, he made sure to let me take complete control. He was also quiet and only spoke when he wanted to.
Meeting our mate was a total shock to him. I could feel it, but what I didn’t expect him to do was ignore her. It was a total surprise to me. While he was happy that we had met her, he wasn’t eager to claim her or to take over and meet her.
So why, then, was he acting like this?
