Glen’s POV
I marched into my mother’s living room furiously and moved in front of her.
As usual, she was relaxing and drinking her cup of coffee calmly.
Despite her age, she still looked very good. Her blond curly hair was nicely done, and she had on the finest pearls around her neck. Her diamond ring, which she wore on her finger, was bigger than the last time I had seen it, and she was wearing the most expensive brand known.
“We need to talk,” I said seriously.
She glanced at her butler, who stood close to the balcony looking at us, and then back at me.
“I asked you to always welcome my pup whenever he visits, but that doesn’t mean I allowed you to let him in whenever I’m having my calm tea time,” she said seriously.
“I apologize, Luna. I did pick up his scent, but I didn’t think of stopping him because it has been long since you last saw him,” he answered and then lowered his gaze to the floor.
Now everything made sense! Back then, I wondered how she was still called Luna when she had no pack to lead or pack members who served her. My dumb self couldn’t realize that she was hiding something important because I blindly believed her lame story about my father not being alive.
“I said we need to talk,” I said loudly.
“I heard you, Glen,” she answered as I furiously hit the cup from her hand, causing the tea to spill on her and the cup to shatter on the floor.
The butler (who was one of our kind) quickly looked up with widened eyes.
“Luna, your jacket,” he said loudly.
I looked at the spot where the hot tea had landed and then at her. She still had a calm expression on her face despite the hot tea spilling on her.
“It’s alright; I’m okay. It’s just a little burn after all,” she answered and then raised her hand.
The butler quickly excused himself and left the room.
“Now, what was that all about?” she asked when she lowered her hand.
The butler quickly excused himself and left the room.
“Now, what was that all about?” she asked when she lowered her hand.
“You said my father was dead; you said he was killed by rogues. You looked into my damn eyes and said you struggled to start anew in human territory while being pregnant with me,” I said seriously, then swallowed hard when I felt a lump forming in my throat.
“Yes, I did,” she answered softly.
“Then how the fuck is he now alive? How the hell do I have a twin brother?” I asked at the top of my voice.
“Oh, I see. Where did you meet them?” she asked as I widened my eyes in disbelief.
So it was the truth; my father was very much alive, not dead! I also had a twin brother.
“I thought I could hide it a little longer. I guess I wasn’t careful eno….!”
“Lorin!” I growled furiously, cutting her off.
“You lied to me,” I whispered as tears filled my eyes.
“Did you ever love me?” I asked in a cracked voice.
“You know that,” she answered seriously.
“Then why don’t I ever talk to Berta? When I turned into a teenager, I rarely talked to her, and when I turned into an adult, I no longer talked to her. Why is it you who is always in control? Do I remind her of the mate she never wanted? Do I remind her of the pain she never wants to remember?” I asked as my vision blurred with tears.
“You were hard on me not because you wanted me to be better and uphold our family, but because you hated me,” I said in a low tone.
“It’s not like that; you are wrong …,”
“It is!” I yelled, startling her as tears ran down my cheeks.
“I became a fucking jerk to make you happy, Lorin! I have no genuine friends because of you! I even lost the only person who could have accepted me for who I really am,” I screamed as tears continued to fall.
“I became the very thing people hated and cared less because I wanted you to be proud of me. How could you do this to me, Lorin? You claim to love me, yet you made me into something that no one can ever be with or love!” I sobbed as tears filled my eyes.
“When you love someone or something, you do everything in your power to make them not hurt. You do everything to make them happy, and that includes setting them free. If you really loved me, you could have allowed me the freedom to make my own choices without your interference,” I said, then covered my face with my trembling hand, sobbing bitterly.
“For the first time in my life, I wish I wasn’t born. I wish I was dead,” I whispered.
“Stop that,” a soft voice I knew and longed to hear whispered.
When I dropped my hand and looked at her, I couldn’t believe that it was Berta really in control. It had been years since Berta took over. She always let her wolf, Lorin, be in control, even when I called out to her whenever I was sick or sad.
“You are my boy, whom I love more than anything in this world. I risked it all for you when I ran away because I couldn’t let you die, so don’t you ever think of dying or wishing death upon yourself,” she said as she stood up.
“Mother,” I whispered as I slowly got to my feet.
It had been so long since I had called her by the actual term. Lorin was my mother, but I always used her name because that’s how I was taught.
She moved closer and touched my cheeks, tears streaming down her face.
“I love you, Glen, and I always will,” she whispered.
“Mom… mother,” I cried out as I embraced her.
I felt like a little boy who had been longing to hear how much his mother loved him.
“I adore you, Glen, and I am always proud of you. I am so sorry for not always being there. It’s my fault that you are in so much pain. I thought having Lorin around you would make you a better and stronger Alpha, but I was wrong. I didn’t think I would be putting you through so much pain. I am so sorry,” she cried loudly as I hugged her tightly.
“Hear her out,” Dominic said softly.
He was very sad and, at the same time, happy to hear Berta as well because it had been so long since she had talked to us or held us in her arms.
