Ruff’s POV
I had my gaze lowered to the floor when Sky walked past me.
Although he had asked me to leave, I couldn’t go far. I stood in the passage, listening to his conversation carefully. He was very upset and sad, and he obviously felt betrayed. Although he wanted to talk to no one, he was still my Alpha and friend, and as his Beta, I needed to be by his side or close by, and he knew that. That’s why he said loudly that no one was to come close to him, knowing that I was nearby, listening.
I went back into the living room and looked at Harley, who had a very sad expression on her face.
“Luna, I really am so sorry about everything. He really didn’t mean what he said. It’s just that right now he is confused and may be feeling sad and upset over the intruders. The way I know him, he will come around soon; all you have to do is give him a few hours. Do rest in your room; I’ll have the two Omegas who attended to you stand outside your room just in case you need something,” I said seriously.
“Okay,” she answered in a low tone and then slowly walked out of the living room.
“Sir,” I called to the former Alpha.
When he looked at me, I proceeded to speak.
“This time, I think you have gone too far with your words. You didn’t even consider Alpha Sky’s feelings. I understand you must have had your reasons for hiding this from him, but don’t you think he’s past the age of protection? He is already the acting Alpha, and he has a mate. He is no longer a little pup who needs shielding,” I said seriously.
He sighed heavily and then smiled sadly.
“You sure do sound like your father right now,” he answered and then moved closer, placing his hand on my shoulder.
“I will never tell him the reason why Berta left, but believe me when I say that I truly loved her with my whole heart. She will forever be my one and only mate, no matter how many years go by. Yes, I lied to Sky because I didn’t want him to pry too much into the matter. Despite us loving each other a lot, we just couldn’t agree on something, and I never knew she would choose that weakling over our love,” he said softly and then dropped his hand.
Weakling? Was he referring to Alpha Glen?
“I hope you will talk to Sky when he is calmer and at ease. Help him understand that all I did was for both of us as well as our pack’s sake,” he said and then walked out of the living room.
I didn’t have to ask because I understood his words clearly.
Moreover, through his words, I could tell he wasn’t lying when he said he truly loved the former Luna, but the disagreement must have been a big one for them to split up.
What Sky wanted were answers, and as his right hand, I had to give him just that. If I couldn’t gather the needed information from the elderly Omegas, then I had to look to one person who was right there when everything was happening, and that was my father, the former Beta.
I quickly walked out of the pack house and stood still when I saw Alpha Jace talking to Alpha Glen. They looked like they were having an argument. Luna, Lillian, and the others just stood a little further away from them, watching in silence.
I moved closer to hear their conversation clearly.
“I told you, we are not going anywhere without Paul. Yes, I asked Edith to prepare, but that didn’t mean I was going to leave my Gamma behind,” Alpha Jace said seriously.
“Then call him already!” Alpha Glen exclaimed.
“I already did; all we have to do now is wait for him,” Alpha Jace responded.
“You must have some nerve, Jace! Did you not hear me when I said I feel sick and want to go back home? Also, where the hell is my Beta?” Alpha Glen asked loudly as I raised a brow in surprise.
I didn’t expect him to have a Beta.
“About that… I too have no idea. We all crossed the portal together, but when we reached here, she was nowhere to be seen,” Alpha Jace answered.
She? His Beta was a female? Now that was more surprising.
“Are you kidding me, Jace? You have no idea where Sophie is?” he exclaimed.
So that was the name of his female Beta.
“Quit acting up, Glen. Edith will find her,” Alpha Jace answered.
“It’s all my mistake, Alpha Glen. She must have moved close to the walls of the Portal. When one does that, they find themselves further away from the chosen direction,” Edith said seriously.
“Are you saying that my Beta was tossed to some other location and country?” he asked.
“No, I’m saying that she is within this territory, not just close to where we are,” she answered as I frowned.
How on earth did the Alpha not notice that an intruder was somewhere within our territory? Was it because he was very upset and focused on the current intruders?
Or was it because the female Beta was good at masking her own scent?
“Can I have two Omegas waiting outside Luna’s bedroom? Also, no one is to go close to the Alpha’s bedroom or even talk to him. He is in a foul mood, and you know what happens when he is upset. Whatever you want to report or inquire about, you will have to do that with me. Also, has anyone seen an intruder? She’s female and a Beta?” I asked through the pack’s mind-link.
“Zally said that he saw a scary-looking lady who is a Beta walking around town. But since he usually has a few people and other beings who aren’t part of our pack come into town, I didn’t pay much attention to his words,” a warrior answered through our mind-link.
I thrust my hand into my pocket and pulled out my car keys.
“You stay put, Alphas. I’ll bring you the female Beta,” I said loudly for them to hear and then walked to where my car was.
“Did you not tell that lowlife that my Beta has a name?” Alpha Glen asked loudly.
I ignored him and got into my car.
Everything was a mess already as it was. Me going back and forth with him would only make things worse.
Right now, my main concern was making sure the Alpha felt better and that the intruders were gone to their own damn pack as soon as possible.
