Glen’s POV
“I’m really sorry for what I said before. I was a jerk because I thought you were just a mere human. Please date me with the thought of marriage,” I said to myself in my parked car while looking in the rearview mirror.
“No, that won’t move her,” I whispered and then smiled nicely.
“I have liked you for the longest time because you are my mate. What happened at the party today made me take your side because of how I feel towards you. I pray and hope you feel the same because if you don’t, it will break my heart. All those harsh words I said to you were spoken out of fear and confusion,” I said, then cursed at myself and looked at the bunch of roses that were on the seat next to mine.
“How do we make it work, Dominic?” I asked in a whisper.
He, too, was in disbelief about what we had heard from Jace, but not very shocked.
“And why aren’t you shocked?” I asked seriously.
“I had an idea she was not a mere human the time I took over at the office. What I didn’t know was what she was; that’s why it’s hard to believe that she is a dragon,” he answered.
“We need to win her over no matter what. Imagine what she could bring us if she were by our side: respect, wealth, and so much more. We already have no pack to lead, so we lack a lot of things, but with her, all that could not matter,” I said and then looked at the apartment in front of us.
“Sophie said she lived here with Molly. All we have to do is our best. Fair enough, we are very good-looking, and we have a charm that no woman has ever overlooked or turned down, so it will be easy,” I said, then got out of the car with the flowers in my hands.
When Molly came out, breathless, I frowned.
“Molly,” I called.
She looked at me and then quickly approached me.
“Thank God you are here, sir. Harley called and said I’ll never see her again. She sounded hurt, and she was crying. I don’t know what she meant by that; that’s why I wanted to go and report her as a missing person at the police station,” she said as Dominic growled.
He hated the idea of our mate trying to stay away or hide from us.
“The police won’t do much until a day has gone by. Does she have a cell phone?” I asked simply.
“No, she doesn’t. I’m guessing she just used a pay phone to call me,” she answered.
“Does she have a favorite place or family she could turn to?” I asked seriously.
“No, she ran away from the orphanage because of how badly they mistreated her. She has no family and no favorite place to go besides the company and our apartment,” she answered, and I felt horrible.
“Then she must be at the company,” I said.
“I hope so,” she whispered.
“She is definitely there if what you have said is true. Now get in; let’s go to the company,” I said.
She nodded and then quickly rushed to get into the backseat of the car.
I got in and started the car, driving to the company.
“Sir, why were you at our apartment?” she asked after a few minutes of silence.
“I wanted to talk to your friend. There was a terrible accident that happened at the party,” I answered simply.
“Oh my God, did she offend one of the important guests? Are you going to fire her?” she asked in a cracked voice.
“Yes, she did offend one of our very important guests. She also went against the orders she was given; she was so rude to another guest. Depending on our talk, I may or may not fire her,” I answered seriously.
“Sir, if you are going to fire someone, you have to fire me because I was the one who asked her to cover for me. Today was supposed to be my workday, not hers, but I pleaded with her to take my shift. You may not know this, but I am sick, and I usually go for reviews at the clinic. When Sophie chose me as one of the cleaners at the party, I couldn’t miss my appointment,” she said sadly.
“Look, let’s focus on finding your friend first,” I answered, then parked the car outside.
She quickly opened the door and took off running into the building.
I pulled out my cell phone from my pocket and called the head of security.
“Sir,” he answered.
“There is a cleaner by the name of Harley. Find out if she’s in the building. You have two minutes to report back,” I ordered, then disconnected the call.
After a minute went by, my cell phone rang. I looked at it and then answered.
“Report.”
“Sir, she’s not in the building. We looked over the cameras, and the last time she was seen here was when she was going to the party with the others,” he answered.
“Okay, call security at the party and ask them if she is there. If she is or isn’t there, call me immediately,” I ordered and then dropped the phone on my lap.
My heart was beating rapidly, and I was beginning to get concerned.
I quickly grabbed my cell phone and got out of the car when Molly approached me.
“Sir, she is not in the company,” she answered in a low tone.
“I know, that’s why I asked security to look for her at the party,” I answered.
“What if she got so scared and went back to the orphanage?” she asked as I felt my heart ache.
“Where is that same orphanage?” I asked.
“I don’t know, sir; she never told me where exactly it was,” she answered.
I quickly dialed a friend’s number and waited patiently as it rang. When he picked up, I sighed in relief.
“It’s me, Glen. I am looking for someone who is very important to me. I will send Sophie over there soon, so be prepared. She will be the one to give you the needed information,” I said and then disconnected the call after he agreed.
I quickly answered my phone when it rang.
“Yes,” I answered, then clenched my free hand into a fist.
“So the last recording you have was of her running out of the building in tears?” I asked, then furiously hit the phone on the ground, shattering it when he agreed.
Where could she have gone?
“Sir?” Molly called in a small voice. She looked so terrified.
“Find Sophie and bring her here. Also, if there is anyone who is friendly or close to Harley in the company, I need to know their name. She can’t just disappear like that; it’s impossible. I’ll have someone trace the payphone she used too; that way, we may have an idea of where she stopped by,” I said coldly.
Harley was not going to disappear on me; I wasn’t going to let that happen.
