Glen’s P. O. V
Grumpy-that’s how I felt when I got out of my car.
The reporters were right at the corner, waiting to get a glimpse of something interesting. I shook my head slightly and walked to the entrance.
“Glen, look over here!” a reporter yelled loudly. I looked at him, smiled, and waved before walking into my company’s building.
That’s when I saw Alfred talking to her-my so-called mate, who had no idea what I was and what we were to each other. She was smiling at him, and that made me feel uneasy.
I remembered how I had met her; it felt like it was just yesterday. She was just a beggar, and Alfred was so cold to her when she was looking for a job that I had to step in.
All the messed-up stories about how Alphas wanted to fuck and mark their mates at first sight were proven wrong because I felt nothing but shock at being mated to such an unattractive woman.
When I went to her and touched her shoulder, beautiful tingles spread throughout my body, and it took me a second to compose myself.
When she turned and faced me, that’s when I felt it for the very first time: a strong force that made me go into a daze in admiration. She wasn’t conventionally beautiful, that was very obvious, but there was still something about her that made my heart beat like crazy.
No, I wasn’t supposed to feel like this, mate or not.
Although my kind were hung up on finding mates, I was different. Yes, I usually longed for human warmth, but that was it.
“Alfred, shouldn’t you be working?” I asked huskily.
She gasped and quickly lowered her gaze to the ground after giving a low bow. For just a second, that act pleased my wolf, Dominic, a lot, and I smiled at her.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Brown,” Alfred answered respectfully.
“Get to work!” I commanded as he quickly gave a bow and left.
I was furious with myself for feeling bothered at seeing them talk. What was wrong with me?
When she looked up and met my eyes, I inhaled her scent deeply. There was no denying that her scent was the most amazing I had ever inhaled.
I slowly approached her and stood in front of her. She had a shocked expression on her face when I leaned in and brushed my nose against the side of her neck. The scent instantly grew stronger, and I felt aroused.
“Um, sir…?” she called in a cracked voice, snapping me out of my damn daze.
“I hope you usually take baths?” I whispered, then stood upright.
Her expression instantly turned cold.
Perfect; that was what I was hoping for. I wanted her to quit in anger and never show her face in front of me ever again. That way, I wouldn’t ruin my image of being cold-hearted and kicking out a homeless lady.
“I did, sir, and I apologize if I smell bad,” she answered, annoying me.
Why was there never a day she snapped at me or answered out of disrespect? It’s like she knew what I was aiming to do.
I walked to the elevator, feeling disappointed.
“Alpha,” Sophie called from behind.
“What do you want?” I asked seriously.
Sophie was of Beta blood, and she was very hardworking in our company.
“I hoped by now you would have figured out a way to get rid of that trashy lady,” I spat, then turned to face her.
“Alpha, according to most workers, they say things have been lively and running smoothly since she began working here,” she answered as I growled at her furiously. She quickly lowered her gaze to the ground and bared her neck to show respect.
“I only have a few days left until the biggest party of our company takes place. Do you know how stressed out that makes me? I come here to work and relax, but all I end up seeing is that bitch making her way into the hearts of all,” I said furiously.
“I’m so sorry,” she whispered.
“I don’t want your sorry; I expect you to get rid of her. Get rid of her before Jace and his warriors arrive at the party, because for some reason, I feel like he will know that she is my mate,” I said seriously.
“Alpha, I may be out of place for saying this, but… why can’t you just reject her?” she asked as Dominic growled furiously at her.
It’s not like I hadn’t thought about doing that when I knew she was my mate. I honestly wanted to, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it, and that came as a surprise because even Dominic couldn’t do it.
“Your job is to do as I say, not question my decision, Beta,” I warned.
“I apologize, Alpha,” she said in a low tone.
I turned to walk away when she spoke.
“Sir, we received a call from Alpha Jace a few minutes ago,” she said as I turned back with a raised brow.
“What now? Does he want more things for his pack?” I asked calmly.
Giving him what he wanted was very simple to do because I could afford it. In exchange, I would use him and his reputation.
Although he was known by a lot of humans as a successful businessman, our kind feared and respected him for his achievements and how large and prosperous his pack was. He was usually the talk of most parties my kind attended. He was so admired that even when he was absent, they paid their respects to his name.
The upcoming party was a charity fundraiser and, at the same time, a bait for big names to cooperate with us. So, Jace being there would be like killing two birds with one stone; both humans and my kind would be in shock and amazement when they saw him, and my image, as well as my influence, would spread and rise even more.
“He asked you to prepare his rooms the very night of the party because he will be spending the night at the mansion and starting off the next day,” she answered.
“Why does he want to spend time at my mansion? Did you not tell him that there are hotels he could sleep in? I will cover the cost,” I said as she shook her head.
“I already did that, but he refused and demanded to rest in the mansion,” she responded.
I cursed silently and then nodded.
