Ridge’s POV
What was there to wait for when all was decided and discussed? Today was the day we were going to step foot into that territory, so we all prepared and took off.
Now we were at their border, waiting for the Alpha to meet us and show himself, and every second of it was getting annoying as hell.
“Why is he taking this long to notice us?” Snow asked simply.
“Maybe he is weak,” I answered reluctantly.
Any strong Alpha knew and felt it whenever their pack’s border was invaded or crossed by intruders. Those that didn’t were mostly weak.
“There he is,” Harvey whispered when a car came into view.
It parked meters away from us as we waited for him to come out.
“Do you hear that?” Lillian asked in a whisper.
“Of course, I do,” I answered calmly.
The Alpha stepped out of the car and slowly approached us.
I liked that his thoughts were similar to Jace when it came to his defense tactics. He appeared to be all alone when in truth, We were surrounded by his warriors who were skillfully hiding in the woods that surrounded us.
He stopped a few meters from us and then cleared his throat.
“I don’t know who you are, nor do I care. All I know is that you are trespassing in my territory without my permission, and the penalty for such an act is death!” He said at the top of his voice as I smirked.
“Talic,” I called in a command.
“Got it,” he answered and then ran towards him as Edith gasped loudly.
I watched as the Alpha ran towards him as well, both jumping into mid-air, shifting and colliding into each other. When they landed on the ground, dust rose, but I could see clearly how the fight was going.
The Alpha growled in warning and attempted to bite into Talic’s coat, when Talic raised his paw and hit his head with his claws, making him take a step back to recover. Talic moved forward at full speed, jumping on him and sinking his teeth into his shoulder. His weight completely pushed him to the ground with force, making him howl in pain, which sounded like a signal to something.
The warrior wolves that were hiding came out of the woods, rushing towards us.
“Edith,” I called loudly.
She closed her eyes and clapped her hands once. A huge force of shields that looked like waves of water covered us from above to the ground, making it look like a cave.
I was astonished when the same force of energy made Talic disappear and appear in the shield we were in.
“I transported him here for his own safety. So what’s next, Alpha?” She asked immediately and she opened her eyes.
Before I could respond, a few warrior wolves jumped on the shield, crawling at it, then stopped when a wave of lightning passed through the shield, hitting them. It was an electrocution wave that forced them to instantly shift into their human form before they passed out. Those that saw stopped in their tracks.
“Talic,” I mind-linked him.
“He is strong, alright, just not stronger than you or me. If I’m not wrong, he’s as strong as Snow, but for some reason, he looked distracted while facing me,” he answered.
So that’s how it was?
I sent Talic over for a simple collision between them, not because I wanted them to really fight. I wanted a way to determine how strong he was.
“Then shall we burn this whole pack to the ground?” I asked in a whisper as the warriors’ growls echoed stronger.
Saying that must have offended them, and that’s exactly what I wanted, a reason to kill them if they dare come at me.
“Alpha, we are not here to harm you or threaten you in any way,” Lillian said loudly, surprising us all.
The Alpha growled furiously as he got to his feet and then shifted back into his human form.
“Do you expect me to believe such bullshit after your Beta tried to go for my neck?” He asked furiously as I looked at Edith angrily.
“Dress that bastard before I kill him,” I ordered seriously.
When I looked back at him, he was in a buttoned coat, and it seemed to shock him because he was looking at himself with widened eyes.
“You have someone who is still a part of our pack. Keeping her here is a declaration of war. Not only does she have valid information about our pack, but she also betrayed her own pack members,” Lillian said as the Alpha took a few steps closer.
“Do you expect me to believe you over her? Are you insane?” he asked.
“Do you want to die first before opening your mouth again?” I threatened as he kept quiet.
When his wolf took over, we instantly noticed a change in his pheromones.
“Alpha…,” Snow called.
“I know, he is as strong as I am,” I answered through our mind-link.
The Alpha was very clever, and he thought as I did. He too deliberately let his human fight as a way to determine how strong my Beta was, and he knew by that fight.
If his guess and instincts were even, then the fight could easily prove that I was his fair match in a fight. The only difference would be in arm-to-arm combat because our skills would be different.
“Speak now before it becomes a bloodbath,” he calmly said.
“You have a wife and pups, don’t you? Yet you choose to protect a she-wolf who is dangerous and capable of destroying your whole pack. Are your actions all in the name of fate and being mates, or is it that you are insane?” she asked seriously.
That question seemed to get to him because he kept quiet for a few minutes and then sighed heavily.
“Come with me,” he answered and then raised his left hand.
His warriors slowly backed away, and in just a few minutes, they were nowhere to be seen.
“Edith,” I called softly.
“I’ll lower the shield,” she answered and then closed her eyes as the shield disappeared.
“Talic, give Harvey back control and dress up,” I ordered and then followed the Alpha with Lillian.
We could sense that there were no traps set near us, but we still had our guard up.
After walking what felt like half an hour, the pack house came into view. I grabbed Lillian’s hand and linked it with mine.
“Did you let your human fight my Beta on purpose?” I asked him.
He glanced at me and then sighed softly.
“You did the same, didn’t you?” He asked as I grinned.
“Well then, where are we going?” I asked seriously, refusing to answer.
“You will see,” he answered simply.
We walked a few more minutes and went behind the pack house, where a huge building that looked like a clinic came into view.
I wanted to ask why he was taking us there but chose to just see rather than ask.
