Amara’s POV
“Joan, come to the dining room right now,” Pride mind-linked him through our pack’s mind-link, while looking at me as if I was a stranger.
In just a few minutes, Joan walked in and bowed low in respect.
“Take that woman to a healer; she’s losing a lot of blood,” he instructed as he went around the table and widened his eyes in shock.
He looked at me and then at Pride as if to question what had happened.
“I lost control and ended up hurting her when she was being disrespectful to my wife,” he said as I raised a brow, stunned over how he was lying to his close friend just to protect me.
“I see, I’ll take her to a healer right away,” Joan answered and then leaned forward and lifted her in his arms.
Although she was still alive, she was unconscious.
As he walked out, I kept on wishing she could just die before a healer could heal her.
“Let’s eat now, ilie mou,” I said and then picked up a fork and a knife.
When a few seconds went by without him sitting down, I cleared my throat.
“I said, let’s continue our meal. Also, please refrain from looking at me like that,” I said seriously.
He pulled his chair very close to me and sat down facing me.
“We need to talk right now, and I don’t care if you or your wolf aren’t willing,” he said, making me sigh softly.
I put the fork and the knife down and then turned and faced him.
“What seems to be the problem?” I asked simply.
“Everything. Amara, how can you be this calm after hurting her that badly?” He asked as I shifted my gaze to the side.
What did he want me to act like? I wasn’t in the mood for panicking.
“I am calm because I am, if that makes sense,” I answered as he frowned and then leaned forward.
“It looks like you are losing respect,” he said as I scoffed.
“Where was Sol’s respect when he was doing all that to me? He couldn’t even contain himself when she came in dressed like a slut,” I answered seriously and then faced him.
“I see, Morai, is this how you feel too?” He asked as I glared at him.
It wasn’t fair when he called or talked to my wolf. She had total submission and never put up a fight when it came to him, no matter what.
I willingly gave control to her as she took over.
“Where do I begin, Alpha?” she asked softly.
“At the very beginning,” he answered seriously.
“Where we came from, it was a huge territory. Unlike how each Alpha ruled a different territory here, there, a huge territory was divided and ruled by more Alphas who had very different opinions on how to rule and how a pack should be. They usually argued, and because of that, most werewolves chose sides, and some separated from their families and lovers. Crime became the new normal, and when an illegal black market was formed, things became even worse. She-wolves were forcefully marked and claimed by strong males, and at times they were sexually assaulted, yet no one helped,” she said and then put our hands together.
“Such a place was where we were born and grew up. Our parents were never mates and never together because they were only night lovers and nothing serious. Our mother hated the mere sight of us, so she neglected us in almost everything. She enjoyed messing around while our father was very much involved in the black market. Seeing how he had no interest in us as well, we decided to join in the black market, hoping he would turn his gaze on us,” she said and then sighed softly.
The past was still a sad thing to remember even though we were over it.
“There, Amara and I did our best, but we came to understand how that place was not for she-wolves and, much worse, weak werewolves. Being starved, beaten whenever we turned down sexual favors was a new normal until we met our mate,” she said as he sat upright with a cold expression on his face.
“Our mate was like an angel in that hellish place, at least that’s what we thought. Little did we know how he had made a bet in the black market, on how he was going to take our virginity in just a month. Us being stupid, we thought it was just a rumor and a bluff to separate us, until the last week of the month came and he started acting up. He became so aggressive that he ended up forcing himself on us. That’s when I decided to get my hands dirty for the very first time. He was a Delta and we were an omega, how could we fight against him? The only way out was killing him, and that’s exactly what I did. When his guard was lowered and he was resting, I slit his throat. Amara was conscious at that time and saw it all, that’s why she believed she was the one who did everything. The relief of no longer being weak overwhelmed her,” she said as his frown became deeper.
“I knew we were going to be killed by his Alpha if they found out what we had done to his Delta, so we ran away and got on a ship that traveled far and wide. We only managed to get a few things with us, and they came in handy. On most occasions, we met strong warriors or high-ranking males that tried to hurt us or abuse us, and we had to resort to poisoning them to protect ourselves. Killing became a part of us, and with time, I convinced Amara that she was doing the right thing when it was wrong,” she said and then brushed our hair back with our hand.
“We have been sexually abused, hit with fists and other things. Paraded naked in front of a group of males, werewolf or not. We have been spat on and have been called so many names. To be heartless was all we could do to avoid taking our own life. We continued traveling like that and living on what we could until we came into the territory you were in,” she said as he leaned forward again.
“Were you by any chance planning on killing my human?” he asked seriously.
“Absolutely. Our first decision was to observe him and see if he was a threat. If he were to lay his hands on us or try to attack us in any way, we were going to kill him. But then he shockingly did nothing but warn us to stay away. With time, we began thinking differently and seeing how other Alphas and males were different. You and Sol were the first in our life to just care for us without wanting anything in return, that’s why we fell in love with you,” she answered as tears filled our eyes.
“Do you know how scared Amara and I were when we knew that you had found your mate? You and our pups are our very reason for living, and losing either of you would either drive us insane or to the edge! I know we are broken and that we needed help, but I am now better and so is Amara. We closed the door of the past, and we just love being a mother and a wife. Everything was perfect until she became a threat to us. If we wanted her dead, we would have made an overdose of poison in either her food or water. What we wanted was to warn her off, that’s why she didn’t die,” she said as tears rolled down our cheeks.
She understood how disappointed he was in us. After all, who would want a murderer by their side and a she-wolf who harmed their mate?
She took a sharp breath when he spread his arms wide open.
“Before scolding you, I feel like you really want a hug,” he whispered as she moved and hugged him, sobbing loudly.
We felt like the burden we had been hiding for so long was finally being lifted by someone other than ourselves.
