Amara’s POV
“Why are the pups already asleep?” Sol asked in a whiny voice, making me chuckle.
“Did you want us to dine together with them?” I asked as we walked into the passage going to the dining room.
“Of course, it has been a few days since I shared a table with them. I miss them dearly,” he answered and then grabbed my hand, linking it to his.
“I apologize for everything that has been happening. I know how angry and hurt you must feel over me giving my mate a place to stay. To be honest, I want to kick her out but sadly I can’t. I feel bad when she’s upset and I get hurt whenever she’s crying,” he said as I wanted to rub my thumb against my ring but stopped.
I was trying my best not to get angry or yell at him; after all, I understood how he was feeling. Not only did I run away from my pack because of my mate, I kept it all a secret.
“It’s alright,” I answered softly.
“My heart,” he called in what sounded like a plea.
“It’s really alright, I understand, mi amor,” I whispered softly and then walked into the dining room.
When I carefully looked at the table, I was surprised. There were three plates prepared.
“Is the Beta eating with us today?” I asked seriously.
“I have no idea,” he answered.
“Then did the Omega in charge of today’s meal make a mistake?” I asked in concern.
Whenever I was very busy with the kids, one of the two trusted Omegas prepared our food. Her setting the table for three only meant someone must have asked her or ordered her to do so.
“My heart, let’s sit down and eat. I’m sure she must have made a mistake,” he answered and then moved and pulled a chair for me.
I smiled and sat down quickly, opening the covered bowls to see what she had prepared. When Sol pulled a chair and sat next to me, I gave him a warm smile.
“So we have fried rice, gravy, fish, some potato salad, chapati, water, and juice,” I said cheerfully.
“It’s quite a simple dish, but I like it,” he answered.
“I know, so what should I put on your plate?” I asked.
“You choose for me,” came his response.
Such moments were simple yet they filled my heart with warmth. I loved picking outfits for him to wear, and I loved it whenever we took a bath together.
“I think you should have fried rice with…”
“Fish, a little potato salad, and gravy,” the most annoying voice said, and I immediately lost my appetite.
Her disgusting scent reached my nose before she could even walk in.
“Let’s not eat here,” Sol mind-linked me.
“No, let’s eat here,” I answered and then forced a smile on my face when she walked in.
She pulled a chair opposite him and sat down with a smile.
Her hair was tied into a band, and her clothes were so provocative that I felt like standing up and slapping her.
She was in a see-through dress with no bra! I glanced at Sol and noticed how he was looking at her in a daze and swallowing hard.
“Won’t you eat what I have chosen for you?” she asked in a seductive voice and then leaned forward, resting her hands on the table.
“I… I asked my wife to…,” he stopped talking when she dipped her finger into the gravy and licked it slowly, disgusting me.
I was about to yell at her when my wolf growled in warning, stopping me.
“But look at her, she’s…”
“Hush,” came her response, which was followed by a rough huff.
I kept quiet and then took in a deep breath and released it.
“I will have that, I guess it’s not that bad having our guest decide on what I should eat once in a while. Um… my heart, do serve me that,” he said as I chuckled softly and then stood up and began putting the food on his plate.
He always did that when it came to her.
He took her side and made me feel like shit. Things only got better whenever Pride, his wolf, took over, and then the next day he would apologize.
Pride and my wolf had a deeper understanding and affection for each other. He too was tempted by his mate, that I knew, yet he chose us in each and every situation.
Such loyalty and love always brought me to tears; that’s why I chose to overlook Sol’s bad actions and stand by him.
I loved him and Pride for who they were and how they loved and adored me and my wolf.
“I’m done,” I whispered softly and then tried to sit down when she spoke.
“Serve me too, I’m eating the same things my mate is eating,” she said as I glared at her.
“Sol, is it that she won’t serve me because I’m your mate, or does she act this way towards guests?” She asked as I stood upright.
“Keep calm,” my wolf growled.
“My heart, please do serve her. Before being my mate, she’s our guest,” he said as I breathed out heavily and then walked around the table to where she was and began serving the food.
Once everything was done, I moved my hand, pushing the glass of water I had poured onto her lap.
She gasped and then stood up furiously as I rubbed my thumb against my ring.
“You bitch!” she screamed, then raised her hand and slapped me hard across my face.
I stumbled and leaned against the table for support.
My cheek was hurting, but the pain was bearable.
“Do you want to die!” she screamed as I moved and grabbed the fork, rubbing my thumb against the tip.
“I will kill you!” she growled as I quickly put the fork back and stood upright, waiting for her to strike again.
She moved in front of me and raised her hand. When Sol growled loudly, she froze her hand in mid-air.
“What do you think you are doing to my wife!” he yelled as his eyes switched to that of Pride.
“Wife, you say! Did you not see her attack me first?” she asked loudly.
“Are you out of your mind?” he asked huskily as the room began to be filled with his threatening pheromones.
“Pride, I’m okay,” I said softly and then walked around the table and sat down.
“As his mate, you are supposed to look presentable, don’t you think? So please leave now and go and change,” I said as she laughed loudly and then sat down gritting her teeth.
“So that was your little plan all along? Pour water on me and kick me out, so you could have this meal alone with my mate? Well, news flash for you, sweetheart!” She exclaimed and then grabbed the fork and knife.
“I know all your little tricks because I have done them before. A little spill of water won’t make me walk out of the room. Actually, it makes me look even hotter, don’t you agree, Pride?” She asked and then began eating her fish as Pride kept quiet. He had a murderous expression on his face.
“If you only knew what I am capable of,” I whispered with a smile.
She put her fork down and then smirked.
“Honey, I am the very evil you think you can attempt to be,” she answered and then coughed.
I stood up and grabbed the jar of water, pouring it into a glass cup.
“What are you going to do, pour more water on me?” she asked mockingly.
Before I could respond, she coughed again, this time covering her mouth. When she moved her hand away, she widened her eyes. It was covered in blood.
Pride looked shocked, but I felt very calm and collected.
“Did you poison me?” she asked in a whisper.
She was about to stand up when she fell weakly to the ground.
I put the glass of water back on the table, which I was about to give her, and then grabbed the knife with a smile.
I went to her side and knelt down on one knee as she widened her eyes.
“Here, let me help you stand. How can I hurt you in front of your mate? There is no way he would fail to protect you,” I said as she frowned and then sighed softly.
“Of course not, there is no way,” she answered and then extended her hand.
Without much thought or restraint, I stabbed her deeply in the stomach.
The emotions I felt in that moment were the exact emotions I felt when I drugged my mate and slit his throat after he forced himself on me.
Peace, happiness, and satisfaction.
I pulled the knife out and stood up, looking at her.
She had a horrified expression on her face as her body began to tremble. She was going into a panic state while losing a lot of blood.
The poison in her body was similar to wolfsbane, yet very different.
It grew in my country, Greece, as a plant called Vok. It was an illegal substance sold on the black market.
Only our kind in my country knew about it, and they usually carried it for protection. To avoid detection, they often mixed its powdered form with either metal or gemstones. Putting it on one’s skin was harmless, but once the one who possessed the gem or metal rubbed their finger on it and touched food, liquid, or utensils, the poison got stuck on them. Whoever ate, drank, or used those utensils became poisoned. It didn’t matter what kind of supernatural being they were.
The poison didn’t burn like wolfsbane did when taken, and it had no taste, so it was hard to detect.
What it did was lower the immune system by attacking it. And if consumed by a werewolf, vampire, or any other supernatural being with healing abilities, their ability became slow.
If not treated on time, one would end up losing a lot of blood from just coughing and die.
I went back to my seat and sat down calmly, looking at Pride who had a pale expression on his face.
“Shall we go back to our meal ilie mou?” I asked as he looked at me with a cold expression on his face for the very first time.
Oh well, it was hard hiding the true me all those years, and now I saw no reason to.
