Edith’s POV
Why couldn’t I bring myself to go back to where I had come from? Was it because I felt something for Talic? I admit I missed how I felt to be loved and wanted, but was that the only reason stopping me?
“Edith, what’s wrong?” he asked, getting my attention.
I slowly walked to where he was and sat next to him on the bed.
“I want to go back. I know I have said this more than once, but I really do miss home,” I answered honestly.
He smiled warmly and then grabbed my hand, linking it to his.
“When would you like to go back?” he asked seriously.
“I… I don’t know,” I answered, feeling confused.
After he had ordered me to see Lillian, I decided to just go into the room and rest. I wanted to refuse Harvey because he was not the boss of me, but then Talic pulled through, and I was left with no choice but to obey. After a few hours went by, he came into my room to check up on me, and he decided to stay and chat. I was relieved that it wasn’t Harvey in control because I wanted to feel comfortable while talking.
“I know and understand you completely. The problem is that I can’t leave the pack and go with you. The Alpha is still recovering, and the Luna still acts cold. If she does change with time, then I swear on the moon goddess that I will come and find you,” he said as I forced a smile across my face.
I didn’t want him to come find me. After being with him and knowing him a little better, I wanted him to be with me.
Tears filled my eyes, which I blinked back, and forced a smile across my face.
“Edith, what is it?” He asked softly.
My heart was aching, and my throat felt dry.
“I don’t want that,” I forced out the words.
“Then do you want me to never see you again?” He asked as I angrily bit my lower lip.
“Edith,” he called a little loudly.
“I’ll stay,” I said honestly in a whisper.
“What?” He asked in disbelief.
“I said I’ll stay until the Alpha gets better,” I said, nearly screaming.
“You would do that for me?” He asked in disbelief.
“Of course I would, what do you take me for? I know you may see me as weird and as one who does not care when I sincerely do,” I answered and then got surprised when he pulled me into his embrace.
“I do not see you as weird. I see you as adorable and completely lovable. Did I tell you how grateful I am to have you in my life?” he asked as I chuckled softly.
“Well, I do see it,” I answered and then pulled back and looked at his handsome face.
“Talic,” I called in a whisper.
“Yes, what is it?” He asked, concerned.
“I do care about you a lot, but I don’t like Harvey,” I answered honestly as his facial expression turned cold.
“Why is that?” He asked in a low tone.
“Even if you hadn’t told me about his past or actions, I would have found out and hated him either way. To me, you are the only good in him. I won’t lie…,” I hesitated then spoke.
“I do have feelings for you, but not for him,” I answered.
He sighed heavily and then placed his hand on my cheek.
“Do you realize that we are one? Do you not see that he wasn’t the only one at fault? I was at fault as well for not interfering or stopping him,” he said softly.
I wanted to refuse, but I couldn’t. I knew how they shared emotions and that he was right.
“I do, but who I want to be with is you, not him,” I answered loudly.
He smiled widely and then caressed my cheek gently.
“And who we both want is you. My human may be lacking in some ways, but that doesn’t mean he is heartless and emotionless. Edith, we were both at fault for abusing the Luna. He did horrible deeds, and I let him. If you want to be angry at someone, please be angry at me for being weak and not stopping him,” he said as I sighed softly.
Why was he kind-hearted towards his human? He was unlike any other I had ever met because some wolves were very strict and controlling towards their humans.
I moved and then sat on his lap, shocking him.
“What?” He asked in a low tone.
“What is wrong with me sitting on your lap?” I asked back.
“Nothing, I just find it surprising,” he answered, making me smile.
I moved my hand and placed it on his cheek gently.
“Talic, I like you a lot. To be honest, I am very fond of you,” I whispered softly.
“I know, Edith. Sadly, I serve my Alpha above anyone else,” he answered as I laughed softly.
“You did get that joke sooner than I had expected,” he muttered as I wrapped my arms around his shoulders.
“Of course, I did, but even if it wasn’t a joke, I understand that’s why I chose to stay. But knowing that, why can’t you treasure me a lot more than you do while I’m still here?” I asked and then held my breath when I was suddenly pushed down on the bed.
He was on top, staring at me with a warm smile.
“I had no idea that you were willing to stay with me a little longer. If I knew, I would have made you feel like a queen,” he said as I laughed loudly.
“Talic,” I called.
“Yes, dear,” he answered.
I moved my hand and placed it around his neck.
“Let me talk to Harvey,” I said as he sighed heavily.
“You don’t like him,” he pointed out the obvious.
“I know,” I answered.
“Then why do you want to talk to him?” he asked as I kept quiet for a few minutes.
Because he was a part of him. At least that’s what I thought because of our conversation.
“What’s wrong in talking to him?” I asked seriously.
“Nothing is wrong, besides you hating him,” he answered simply.
I wanted to argue over how I didn’t hate him, but his words were really true.
“Either way, let me talk to him,” I said.
He sighed heavily and then closed his eyes. When he opened them, he quickly moved from me and sat at the edge of the bed without a word.
I slowly moved and pressed my hand against his back.
“Harvey,” I called softly.
“Yes, it is me,” he answered coldly.
“Um…. I’m sure you know that I asked Talic to let you take over,” I said softly.
“Yes, and why is that when you two were having an amazing time?” he asked seriously.
“Well, it’s because I feel like there are a lot of things I would like to know about you,” I answered.
He looked at me seriously and then laughed softly.
“My past is messed up, there is nothing for you to know,” he said coldly.
“So is mine,” I answered honestly.
“Look, I know that you know this, but I’ll say it with my own mouth. I wanted my Luna dead and banished far away from this pack,” he said as I took in a deep breath.
“I know, honestly I do,” I answered seriously.
He stood up and walked to the bathroom quietly.
I wanted to stay, but I couldn’t.
I went to the bathroom and hesitated before walking in.
My mate stood looking sexy in the shower as water poured on him.
I raised a brow in awe as I continued to approach him. His figure was amazing, and his muscles were so appealing. He was perfect, absolutely perfect.
When he turned his head and looked at me surprised, I felt my cheeks heat up.
“What are you…” He trailed off without finishing his sentence.
“I want to take a bath with you,” I answered.
He smiled and then sighed heavily before stepping out of the shower.
I quickly averted my eyes in shock. How could he walk out of there without feeling embarrassed? I couldn’t see everything besides his abs because I didn’t want to act weird.
“You do enjoy your time,” he whispered huskily as he walked past me and went to the door where the towels were hanging.
I turned and looked at him with a frown as he picked one up and wrapped it around his waist.
I knew there and then I was pushing things and making him very uncomfortable. If he really wanted me in the shower, there was no way he was going to answer me like that.
“I’m sorry,” I said silently in my head, feeling bad for my behavior.
All I could do was watch him in silence as he walked out.
