chapter 36

Book:THE ALPHA'S REKINDLED BOND Published:2025-2-8

Lillian’s POV
I couldn’t sleep much last night after the incident, and I didn’t want Flora to know because she would be worried.
“I hate how you acted. We are not weak like before. We could have slit her throat, and that asshole of a mate wouldn’t have stopped us,” Maila said seriously.
Why didn’t she understand that Leah was part of our little trauma throughout the years? For us to get over it, it was going to take some time. Moreover, seeing the Alpha hit her brought back unwanted memories. In that moment, my body couldn’t move in fear, and I saw myself in Leah’s place.
When he spoke to me, I couldn’t stop the words that came out of my mouth. I kicked him out of his own room.
“This pack is also ours. We are the rightful Luna,” Maila growled, displeased by my thoughts.
“Maila…,” I called silently.
“Why don’t you let me take over? I fear no one, and I am capable of protecting us from anyone. You won’t experience such sad and hurtful moments when you allow me to be in charge,” she said loudly.
“No, I don’t want you to make things bad or harder than they already are. When you are in control, you do a lot of things that I’m against. That’s why I will handle everything by myself,” I answered and then walked to the balcony.
When I looked down at the group of warriors happily chatting, they looked up and met my gaze. Without wasting time, they quickly lowered their gaze to the ground and bared their necks.
It felt strange seeing them act in such a way.
“Luna,” Flora called at the door.
“Come in,” I answered and then turned with a smile to face her.
She was already an elderly she-wolf. I didn’t want to make her overwork in any way. That’s why I woke up early and took a bath. If I had cleaning equipment in the room, I would have already cleaned it.
She walked in with a tray in her hand and a smile on her face.
“I brought you some breakfast,” she said when she approached me.
I went to the door to shut it when I picked up my mate’s scent.
“Did you come with him?” I asked seriously.
“I’m sorry, Luna, but he insisted on making you breakfast when I told him to leave it to me,” she answered.
“So he was the one that prepared that?” I asked coldly.
“Yes, and he took a bite and sip from our breakfast to prove to me that it wasn’t poisoned,” she answered.
“Fine, but then that doesn’t explain why he is standing in the corridor a few meters away from this room,” I pointed out.
I hadn’t seen him, but I could tell he wasn’t moving because I couldn’t hear his light footsteps.
“He wanted to make sure you ate your breakfast. He said he was only going to leave after seeing the plate empty,” she answered.
“Annoying,” I whispered in a low tone, then pushed the door to close it when an amazing aroma reached my nose.
I quickly grabbed the door handle and pulled it open.
Without stopping, I stepped out and looked at him seriously. He was standing with a medium box in his hands, looking back at me.
His hair was shaggy, and his clothes were the same ones he had on yesterday. He was handsome, I acknowledged, but since I resurrected from my death, he always looked different. The smart, sexy mate I drooled over was gone, and in his place was a good-looking, sexy caveman. Although his clothes were clean, they weren’t ironed for some reason. Was he stopping the she-wolves from doing that? His hair, too, was a curly dry mess, and his beard was now showing.
I inhaled deeply, then took a step forward. Whatever was in the box smelled divine.
“What is that?” I asked simply.
“Well, good morning to you too, Lillian. I brought you something. If it’s okay, I would like to come in and show you,” he answered.
“Don’t!” Maila warned.
“Sure, if it won’t take long,” I answered as he sighed in what sounded like relief.
He walked towards me with a smile and then stopped in front of me for a second before walking past me and going into the room. I slowly followed and closed the door behind me once I was in.
“Excuse me,” he whispered, then sat down on the bed with a friendly smile.
“This here is…,” he trailed off as he put the box beside him and opened it.
“Pizza. Immediately I woke up, I rushed to the mall to get you some without tending to myself. That’s why I want to apologize if I look bad,” he said as he picked up a slice.
What did he mean by that when he always looked like that? The only difference was that he was wearing the same clothes as yesterday.
I quickly moved closer and swallowed hard at the sight of the delicious food in front of me.
“Take as much as you want,” he said softly.
“But Alpha, she needs to eat her breakfast first,” Flora said in a complaining tone.
“Oh, my bad, I’m sorry,” he answered.
He was about to put the slice back when I quickly grabbed it from his hand and took a bite from it.
The exploding taste that made my buds dance in delight made me giggle like a fool. I happily took another bite then looked at him with a wide smile.
“This is delicious! Oh my goodness. This is divine! Here, take a bite,” I said loudly as I leaned in and moved the slice to his lips.
He opened his mouth and took a bite.
“It’s amazing, right!” I exclaimed then took another bite.
When I smelled the scent of tears, I quickly looked at Flora to see if she was crying, but I found her just looking at me happily. There and then, my stomach dropped because I knew who was crying.
I slowly took another bite with a heavy heart and forced myself to chew. Was it so disgusting and hurtful to see me laugh? Did it anger him to the point of tears?
Was I supposed to apologize?
“I’m glad,” he whispered as I looked at him in shock.
He was wiping away his tears with a smile.
What did he mean by that?
“I’m glad that you like it,” he said as tears continued to fall.
My heart felt like it was being crushed. I didn’t understand why me liking pizza had to do with him crying. Either way, I didn’t want him to continue crying.
I picked up a slice and handed it to him.
“Here, eating it will make you feel better,” I said in a low tone.
“Thank you,” he answered and then took a bite as tears continued to roll.
I didn’t want to cry, but I too began shedding tears while eating. It hurt seeing him hurt in such a way.
