Las POV
“Talk,” the Luna commanded.
I had a bitter taste in my mouth and a splitting headache. My body was slightly trembling, and I felt like I was choking.
Never had there been a day I had felt like this, even when I was facing Alpha Ridge in his angry state. What the hell was she? Her aura was unbearable.
“I am not feeling well,” I forced out the words.
“Mm, very well, you can excuse yourself,” she said with a creepy smirk on her face.
I could tell how much she was enjoying it. Was this payback for how my human had treated her in the past?
I stood up with wobbly legs and gave a low bow before exiting the room.
I was slowly beginning to feel better the further I got away from the room.
When Talic told me how she was stronger than anyone he had encountered in our pack, I took it as bluffing and chose to approach her to see for myself. But after today, I wanted nothing to do with her, not even to cross her path. Whatever she was, it was bad, Alpha or not.
“Delta,” Leah called out in front of me.
I looked at her with widened eyes, then quickly turned to see if Lillian had followed me in any way. It was delusional thinking, but I couldn’t help myself; I was scared of her.
“You look pale,” she said when she stood in front of me.
I grabbed her hand and dragged her out of the pack house without a word.
Once we were in a place where we could talk privately, I let her go and looked at her seriously.
She smiled and then tucked her hair behind her ear in a flirtatious way.
“Delta, I know that you have always had your eyes on me, but I do not belong to you, and I can never betray my lover and Alpha,” she said as I looked at her with disgust.
I couldn’t believe she had the audacity to say that to my face. I knew she was shameless and that my human was a little fascinated with her, but couldn’t she tell us apart? I felt nothing for her and never would I ever for the likes of her even if I was mateless.
“Listen closely, you dumb whore,” I said as she gasped loudly.
“If you value your life in any way, you will stay away from the Alpha,” I warned as she folded her arms with a cold expression on her face.
“I’m so sorry to disappoint you, dear Delta, but I’m reserved for the Alpha only. That means he’s the only one who can give me such an order, so I suggest you pretend this little talk never happened. You wouldn’t want me to tell him how you dragged me here for your own little amusement, would you?” She asked loudly as I laughed softly.
What was I thinking? To begin with, my human and I were observers. Never was there a time we intervened in something that wasn’t our business.
She was going to be brutally dealt with by the Luna sooner or later, so what was the point of stopping her now?
“Sorry, my bad. I must have been out of my mind. Please continue serving our Alpha as you have in the past,” I answered as she smiled widely.
“Now that’s more like it. And don’t worry, I live to serve Jace,” she said proudly, then walked past me.
I turned and looked at her with a heavy sigh and then closed my eyes to relax.
There was no way we could save everyone. I hated it because my instincts were telling me that blood was going to spill in the pack. Whoever was going to get in the Luna’s way was going to lose their life.
“Las,” Talic called loudly as he approached me.
I quickly opened my eyes and frowned deeply.
“What’s wrong?” I asked at the top of my voice when he stood in front of me, breathless.
“The Alpha,” he said, then swallowed hard.
“What?” I exclaimed in concern.
“He is awake,” he said as I felt intense fear wash all over me.
If it was Alpha Ridge in control, he was going to go straight to Lillian’s room, and it wouldn’t end well. If it was Alpha Jace, then it was going to be a relief because Alpha Jace normally wouldn’t face her immediately.
“Is Alpha Jace in control?” I asked in a cracked voice, to make sure it wasn’t Alpha Ridge.
“Yes,” he answered as I sighed in relief.
“Talic, she’s different,” I whispered when he turned to walk away.
“She was unlike anything or anyone I had ever seen. You were right,” I said seriously.
He turned and faced me sadly.
“I know, and if we could feel how strong she is, then the Alpha will too. My concern right now is how we will protect him if she aims to harm him? We are no match for her, and we can’t seem to fight off her command,” he answered.
“Can’t your mate do something to help us?” I asked.
“No, she can’t do anything. To be honest, our relationship is hanging by a thread as we speak. I didn’t want to tell you this because we already had problems with the pack. My mate wants nothing to do with me, and she wants me to reject her. Asking too much of her help might just push her to cut ties with me. Alas, I don’t think I can be okay if I lose her, that’s why I’m so scared right now,” he answered sadly.
What was happening to us? A few weeks ago, we were like kings on top of the world, but now we were all struggling to hold our ground.
“What will you do?” I asked.
“Nothing, I can do nothing. She is stronger than I am in all possible ways, so I can’t force my marking on her. Not just that, I never want to harm her in any way, and at the same time, I don’t want her to leave me,” he answered.
Looking at how vulnerable he looked made me pity him.
“If there is anything I can do to help, please don’t hesitate to let me know,” I said as he smiled.
“Of course,” he answered and then turned and walked ahead.
I slowly followed behind as we went into the pack house.
When we reached the door to the Alpha’s room, we knocked a few times.
“Come in,” he responded huskily.
We walked in and found him sitting in bed.
“Alpha Jace,” I called in relief.
He averted his eyes from me and kept quiet.
“What happened? Tell me everything and make sure you don’t leave out any detail,” he ordered.
He sounded very angry with us.
“Alpha, I’m so sorry th….,”
“I’ll tell him everything so leave it to me, Talic. You have been through a lot already,” I said as they both looked at me.
I was going to tell him everything, and I was ready to pay the price because he wasn’t going to let us off no matter what. After all, we were the ones who failed to protect his mate despite him despising her badly.
