Edith’s POV
She was quietly looking at me without a word.
She looked miserable, and I felt uncomfortable talking to her.
I cleared my throat and tried to talk to her again.
“I’m so sorry if I have offended you by calling you Luna. It’s just that there is something that I want to talk to you about,” I said softly.
She averted her eyes and chose to keep her silence.
“Aren’t you wondering why you are in such a place? An empty room without any furniture for you to sit on?” I asked seriously.
When she couldn’t look at me, I continued to speak.
“That’s because this is not the reality you and I should be in. What I’m trying to say to you is that you and I aren’t in the land of the living,” I said, then got startled when she laughed loudly.
She looked at me angrily as her eyes began to switch to a dark shade of red. My heart raced, and my throat felt dry.
She was an Alpha wolf and an angry one at that. Her aura gave it all away as well.
She was unfazed, unafraid, and dominant.
“So this is the land of the dead,” she whispered in what sounded like a question.
“Not quite, this place is a passage that leads to the land of the dead. Those that remain here either have regrets or can’t seem to let go of their past life,” I answered calmly, hoping she would talk to me more.
“I’m glad,” came her response that surprised me.
Glad? Why was she?
“I’m sorry, but what?” I asked loudly in disbelief.
“If I’m dead or unconscious in any way right now, that means we have finally broken free from the curse of being unwanted. I can’t believe it took until now to realize that what we needed wasn’t to live but to die to truly be free,” she answered as I quickly moved closer and knelt on one knee, grabbing her hand.
“You need to come back, Lillian,” I said seriously.
“Why should we?” She asked as she pulled her hand away from mine.
“Because your mate is dying,” I answered honestly.
“Our mate, who? Last time I checked, we were all alone and unmated,” she said with emphasis.
I understood her anger and pain, but she didn’t have to act like that.
“I am serious here, Jace is truly dying,” I exclaimed as a wide smile touched her lips.
“That’s the most amazing news I have ever heard in all my entire life,” she answered.
I stood up and took a few steps back.
“No, that’s not good news. That should be the worst news for you to ever receive!” I exclaimed as she stood up and looked at me coldly, making me shiver. Her facial expression turned entirely murderous, and her aura was becoming too much.
There was something about her that made me feel scared. In all my life, I had met a lot of supernatural beings, but never was there one that intimidated me.
“I understand that you aren’t Lillian but her wolf, but you are still a part of her and thus making you one. So please hear me out,” I said as she tilted her head, then smirked.
“Go on, little witch,” she answered as I frowned angrily and then took in a deep breath and released it.
I wasn’t going to let her get a rise out of me. I needed to be very calm to convince her to come back with me.
“You have gone through so much in your pack, and it broke you, that I understand. But what I don’t understand is how you can choose to be here and not go back! That fucking bastard hit and humiliated you in front of everyone! He cursed at you day and night and fucked another woman to push you to hell! As if that wasn’t enough, he allowed his men to toy with you until your very last breath. Even as we speak right now, they are laughing in your fucking face and calling you names!” I yelled.
“If I were you, I would take this chance of going back to being alive, that way I would take my revenge. I would become stronger and better than any she-wolf in the pack, and I would stop at nothing to give those bastards a taste of their own medicine. Back then and still now, no one knows what rank you are. I also don’t know why you didn’t awaken back then, but now things are different, you are an Alpha wolf and stronger than all. You can completely claim your rightful place or even take down those morons below you,” I said as she raised a brow.
“I was abused by the very man that swore to hold my hand. His need for power made me lose the only people I loved the most… my children,” I whispered as tears blinded my vision.
“I loved them so much that each and every passing year I wished them peace in their afterlife. No matter what, I couldn’t stop blaming myself and wishing I could have a chance where I could kill that son of a bitch before it all went wrong, sadly I couldn’t. But you have that power and I’m willing to take you back,” I said as tears rolled on my cheeks.
Her eyes slowly returned to their original color, and for the first time since I had met her, I saw a very sad and broken expression on her face.
“I’m so sorry for your loss,” she whispered as I faked a smile.
“It’s okay, I was just so in love and naive that I wanted to see him happy. I cared less if dark magic would confuse me as long as I was still with him. But looking back, I was just so stupid,” I answered.
“If I do go back, can I truly take revenge myself?” She asked in a low tone.
“Yes, you can, but there is something I want you to promise me,” I answered.
“What is it?” She asked.
“You can take revenge yourself, but under no circumstances should you kill the Beta,” I said seriously.
“Why?” She asked.
“Because he is mine to handle as I please,” I answered.
She moved closer and stood in front of me, touching my cheek gently, making me uncomfortable.
“Don’t let him break your tiny heart like the first bastard did. I wouldn’t want to slit his throat on behalf of my savior, would I?” she asked coldly as her eyes flickered between her wolf and her original color.
“I will be the one to kill him before you if he does something I disapprove of,” I answered seriously.
“Very well, then take me back,” she demanded as I nodded and grabbed both of her hands in mine.
“It will only take a minute, so brace yourself because you will be facing your demons,” I said as she smirked.
“I know,” came her response.
