Talic’s POV
Three days of traveling without much rest and needed food were finally taking a toll on me. I felt exhausted, and my head was badly aching.
After Flora’s instructions and badly drawn directions, I took it upon myself to search for that witch. Although I was in the said territory she was in, I couldn’t sense her presence nor notice any wild animals near me. Something felt off, and that made me feel a little nervous.
I opened the door to my car and slowly got out, taking a few steps ahead.
When I stood still, I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply. When I opened my eyes, I sighed softly. It was of no use; I still couldn’t pick up any supernatural being’s scent.
I was about to turn and get back to my car when I heard light humming coming from behind the bushes, a little further away from where I was.
I carefully began moving towards the bushes as the female’s voice became clear.
I touched the bushes and I was about to part them when she spoke.
“Whoever you are, go back. This isn’t a place to trespass,” a little girl’s voice said seriously.
I was in shock hearing such a voice that I instantly parted the bushes without a second thought.
The little girl, who had long, red, curly hair, was kneeling on the ground looking at a black rose with her back towards me.
She raised her hand and touched the rose petals with a heavy sigh, and then stood up without bothering to look at me.
“Didn’t you hear me, Mr. Beta?” She asked as I raised a brow, stunned at how she knew my rank.
Whoever she was, she wasn’t a regular human child despite her scent being one. Not a second ago, I couldn’t pick up any scent, and now from nowhere I could.
Everything seemed off to me.
“Child, I will after I meet someone,” I answered as she chuckled softly.
“Child? That’s pretty rude calling someone you barely know a child,” she said as I brushed my hand through my hair.
“Then what exactly am I to call you, little stranger?” I asked seriously.
“You should call me Edith,” she answered and then turned and faced me with her cute little smile.
She had the most beautiful green eyes I had ever seen, and her brows were dark red as her hair was. Her lips were light pink, and her dimples made her look angelic.
Although her skin was pale white, it suited her the most. She was in a beautiful light purple dress with a black coat around her shoulders. A bucket was on her arm, which was full of herbs, and in her hand was a green leaf.
When her expression turned cold, I frowned.
“Hell no,” she whispered and then pointed straight at me.
“Leave,” came her command.
I turned and looked behind me just to make sure she was commanding me.
“Me?” I asked as I pointed at myself.
“Get out of here!” She exclaimed loudly as the wind began to pick up and blow.
What happened to her? A second ago she wasn’t this rude.
“Excuse me, Edith, but I am not leaving until I talk to the person I’m looking for,” I answered seriously.
“This can’t be happening, I refuse to let it happen,” she said angrily and then turned to walk away.
When I rushed and grabbed her hand, I instantly let it go, feeling puzzled by the wave of lightning shock I had felt. The wave was a little painful but bearable because it was followed by the most beautiful tingles I had never felt in my life go throughout my entire body.
She stopped moving and turned to look at me with a murderous gaze in her eyes.
“Touch me again and you die, you son of a bitch,” she warned as I stood there speechless.
What the hell did I feel? Did she just curse at me?
Those questions were going through my mind as I tried to process what I was feeling.
“No,” I whispered, then laughed loudly, startling her.
I was so wrong because in a second, I thought that the little girl was my mate. If she was, I could have known by her scent way before the touch. I wasn’t Harvey; that’s why it was impossible not to know.
“Little girl, I will be frank with you. I don’t know what you are or who you are, but I’m not here to mess around or play games. I am here in search of a witch who can use black magic,” I said seriously, and that seemed to calm her down.
“That witch doesn’t exist. It’s only a myth that fools such as yourself follow and believe in,” she answered as I held in my growl. She was beginning to get on my nerves.
“Fine, say I’m a fool and I believe in myths being told. Does that give you the right to curse at me?” I asked as she smiled.
“What do you want with her?” She asked back as I smirked.
“It’s not for little children’s ears,” I answered as her smile vanished.
“I knew it, we can’t work out,” she said as I frowned deeply.
“Wait, what?” I asked loudly.
“The witch won’t see you no matter what. You are useless and you have nothing of value she would want,” she said with emphasis.
“So she does exist?” I asked in relief.
“Get out of this place before nightfall. When the sun sets, little mean creatures come out to play,” she said, ignoring my question, and then turned to walk away when I grabbed her hand tightly.
“Let go!” She yelled, and this time I found myself flying in mid-air and hitting a tree that made me fall to the ground.
I growled low, then shook my head as I inhaled the scent of my blood. I slowly forced myself to my feet and moved my hand to my bleeding nose.
She was furiously looking at me a few meters away. Her chest was rising and falling, and her eyes were a shade of black. Smoke in the form of a wide circle circled her, and that made me take a step back in fear.
When the smoke went down, a lady stood in the little girl’s place. She had the same facial features as the girl did; the only difference was how mature she looked. Her body was amazing, and she was slightly shorter than me.
She was still in the same clothes, but her aura was deadly. That was supposed to shock me, but it didn’t because what shocked me was her amazing scent of roses, which was mixed with nature. No matter what, I knew it by instinct and felt it in my blood that she was my mate.
She was mine. My woman.
