Jace’s POV
“I am here,” I whispered softly to Lillian as I slowly sat at the edge of the bed, looking at her with a smile.
“I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart for taking time to come here. For some reason, I passed out. I’m assuming it’s due to exhaustion,” I said softly, then raised my hand to touch her cheek when I stopped myself halfway.
“Oh, you don’t like to be touched, do you?” I asked, then frowned deeply when I felt a slight headache.
I groaned and then touched my forehead with a heavy sigh.
No matter how I was feeling, I wasn’t going to leave her side. She needed me as much as I needed her.
A knock that came through forced me to get to my feet and walk to the door, opening it.
An elderly omega had a tray of food in her hands, and she was slightly trembling with her gaze lowered to the ground.
“Alpha, the Beta asked me to serve you food and to prepare a bath for you,” she said, making me growl.
She quickly took a few steps back and went down on her knees.
“That reminds me, why the fuck aren’t you attending to my mate and Luna? By now you should have bathed and dressed her in the finest clothes. She’s my woman,” I said seriously as she looked at me in shock.
I took a step aside and opened the door wider for her to see her.
“She’s waiting,” I said as she looked at me with a terrified expression on her face.
“Are you deaf or are you trying to ignore my words?” I asked.
She quickly shook her head and stood up with the tray.
“Then fucking call the other Omegas to take care of my mate, now!” I growled.
“Y… es, Alpha,” she answered in a stammered voice, then quickly turned and rushed downstairs.
I closed the door and went back to my mate. Looking at her beautiful face made me smile and feel at peace.
She always was perfect to me, yet I denied her very existence. Now that we were going to be together, I was going to take each and every hour treating her right.
When a knock came through, I rolled my eyes and then turned and faced the door, knowing fully well that it was the same omega who had brought food a while ago.
This time she wasn’t alone because I could sense two more omegas with her.
“Come in,” I said loudly before she could knock again.
The door opened, and they slowly walked in.
“Alpha,” the two greeted with a bow.
When they looked up, I clearly recognized them.
They were usually found mostly where Lillian was, yet they spoke to each other and left her out of their conversation. That very memory made me feel annoyed.
I walked to them and stood in front as they quickly lowered their gazes.
“My mate has been with the two of you more times than she has ever been with anyone. As I recall, you usually ignored her,” I said as they quickly looked at me with a terrified expression.
“Relax, I won’t do anything to you. I understand how my mate is comfortable around you two, that’s why I want you to take your time and talk to her whenever you help her bathe and change clothes. I’m sure she will be happy to have friends,” I said as the two omegas looked at each other as if my words were insane.
“Do you have something to say to me?” I asked coldly.
“No Alpha, we will do as you have requested. I actually know what Lillian….” She cut her words when I looked at her coldly.
“I meant to say, I actually know very well what our Luna’s favorite color is,” she answered as I smiled.
“Really?” I asked happily.
“Yes, she loved …. I mean lo.. ves pink a lot,” she answered in a cracked voice.
“Really? I thought so too, seeing how she had two pink dresses. Not to forget how they looked so perfect on her,” I said with a chuckle, then frowned when I saw how they all were looking at me with widened eyes.
“What? Is it shocking to know that I know my mate has two pink dresses?” I asked as they quickly shook their heads.
“Listen, I expect no bruises on her body, and I shouldn’t hear you raise your voice whenever you talk to her. She has gone through so much, and she’s so fragile. Talk to her as you do to me, in a gentle, respectful manner,” I ordered.
“Yes, Alpha,” they answered.
I turned and moved to the bed, sitting down at the edge while looking at her.
“I promise I won’t be far away from you as they help you bathe and dress. I’ll be in my office going through some files. If they dare disrespect you in any way, do let me know, and I’ll take care of them,” I said softly and then looked at her hand.
“Is it okay if I hold your hand?” I asked in a whisper and then waited patiently for her response.
When a few minutes went by, I moved my hand and touched hers gently.
I frowned at the coldness of her hand.
“Quickly prepare a warm bath for her; her body is cold!” I ordered at the top of my voice.
The two omegas ran to the bathroom while the elderly Omega stood there with a blank expression on her face.
“Please make sure she dresses up fine. I don’t want her to catch a cold and be sick like in the past,” I said seriously, then stood up and looked at the elderly Omega who was frozen in one spot.
When I raised a brow, she quickly gave a bow.
“I will bring something warm for her, Alpha. You don’t have to worry at all. I will also prepare her favorite warm soup as well as help her eat, so please be at ease,” she answered.
I looked at her and then smiled. She was one of the pack members I trusted.
Not only did she look after the she-wolves of our pack, but she also made sure the orphanage was well taken care of.
She was also the only elderly omega whom Lillian confided in about her fear of swimming.
“Good, if anything comes up, don’t waste time informing me. I won’t take long, so please comfort her on my behalf and keep her company,” I said as she nodded.
I walked to the door, turned, looked at Lillian with a smile, and then walked out, knowing she was in good hands.
