CHRISTIAN
I frown at the text knowing who would have sent it.
‘I’m so over you UNCLE Christian ‘ the text read and I felt my heart beat thumping in my chest, my phone almost slipped from my hands because my muscles were twitching.
I dropped the phone on the counter. I dialled the driver but he didn’t pick up, I dialled Jenna countless times and she did not answer the call. She was angry at me.
I was scared, wondering if she was actually serious. Had I lost her?!
“No!” I yelled standing up and going downstairs, I think about going to her house and telling her to forget everything I said but then I stopped myself.
I saw how to hurt she was, it shredded me to pieces to see her tears and know that I was the cause of it but I needed to make sure she knew that if I was not the one, there was no one else.
I could not to go to her house right now because of the simple reason, she would hate me if I show up tonight, I would have to give her time. I could not imagine myself having a wink of sleep this night and my minutes would stretch into tormenting hours.
But, how do I tell her that I’m hurting too, how could I explain to her the heartbreak that I experienced when she rejected my offer was enough to kill a man.
I had rushed things, it was my fault, but my baby wanted me, I saw it her eyes, the way she responded to my kiss, I had been waiting for her to come around for a long time now, the opportunity was presenting itself and I had to… I just felt like I needed to have her, claim her as mine.
I punch the wall pain exploded through my hand, there’s a hole in the wall and my hand is bleeding, I felt like punching it more and more times, just to replace the emotional pain that was tearing me apart with physical pain.
But I’m too anxious to even breathe.
After an eternity of waiting, the driver pulled into the components.
He parks in front of the house and immediately he stepped out he fell on his knees.
“I’m so sorry sir, but I didn’t send the text, she did. I’m sorry for letting her send it. She was getting angry when I told her I could not divert from her house”
Did she tell you where she was planning to go?” I asked him, my heart was doing a marathon in my chest.
“No, but she made a single phone call… Larissa, she said Larissa” the driver said and I relaxed a little bit.
I knew who Larissa was, it’s a she, not a he as I was fearing.
“You made sure she got in and she stayed in?” I asked the driver.
“Yes sir” he said.
I nodded and turned away from him, I was contended that she had gotten into her house, I knew that her parents would not let her leave by this time of the night.
I didn’t want her running off to anybody’s arm searching for comfort, I didn’t want her to go to another man.
I got into my house and I went to my bedroom, I could not stop hearing my baby’s voice moaning, I could not stop smelling her sweet scent.
I stayed awake for an hour before I decided that I needed sleep medications, I went to the drug cabinet and popped some sleeping pills into my mouth.
I went back to bed and I slept on the thought of Jenna.
“Mr. Cristian, Mr. Christian” the voice was soft yet hard enough to pull me from sleep, but not hard enough to keep me awake.
“Go away” I said to my house keeper and she left.
The effect of the drug I had taken earlier was still working.
The next time I was woken up was from the shrill of my phone, I sat up and grabbed the damn thing.
It was from my brother.
“Hello, Chris I’m in your living room” he said.
I flung the cover away from myself and I jumped out of the bed, when I made my way to the living room, my brother wasn’t there.
“He’s in the back sir” the house keeper said to me.
“Did the cleaners clear up the place already?” I asked her and a panicked expression her face.
I shook my head in disappointment and to the patio, my brother was standing right in the middle of my set up where I had dinner with Jenna.
“How romantic… I’m glad you’re seeing someone Chris, I was getting worried there was no woman in your life” he said placing the flute cup back on the table.
“Well I’ve not been able to get a particular someone off my mind lately” I told him feeling the impulsive urge to tell him that I want his daughter.
“Who is that special someone?” He asked, his eyes burning with curiosity and excitement. “Last time I asked there was no one, you made sure to state that clearly” he said.
“In due time you’ll find out” I said to him and he laughed.
“I’m here to apologize. The last time you were at our house, you didn’t leave happily, I’m sorry ” he said.
I remembered what had happened that day, guy hands on my baby’s hair, his voice calling her baby and my only thought was throwing my brother into the pool and holding his head down till he drowned.
I shake the thought off.
“You don’t have to apologize, I understand. Let’s go inside” I told him walking to the table.
“How did you get that, were you out fighting again?” He asked me to touching my knuckle.
“It’s nothing ” I told him making a reminder to change the dressing of the cut I had gotten from punching the wall last night.
I picked up Jenna’s glass, her red lipstick had left a mark on the glass, it was deemed a prizes possession so I carried it.
“Clear everything out” I told the cleaners standing around and they went to work.
“How is everyone at home?” I asked him Trying hard to hide the desperation in my voice.
He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
“Man, Jenna arrived by midnight last night, her mum was sitting in the living room waiting for her to come home and she did wearing this revealing dress”
“You saw it?!” I asked him, his eyebrows shot together questioningly but I was not going to back now.
“No jesus, you look like you’re about to stab me in the throat with that cup. O didn’t see it, I had gone upstairs already because I couldn’t wait longer but Elisa waited for her” he informed me.
I settled.
“How is she?” I asked.
“Elisa is managing, she__”
“I’m not talking about your wife, I’m asking about Jenna, how is she?” I corrected him.
“I don’t know how she is, I haven’t seen her this morning, in fact in one knows where she is, she left almost immediately she got home last night ” he said and I felt the ground flip from under my foot.
