Mirabelle’s POV
It was a quiet evening at home, I stood in front of the door with Mika, Tyler, and Skyler. Each of them wore matching pajamas, we were all waiting for the same thing: Noah’s return.
He’d told me that they were already in the estate, and my heart fluttered at the thought of seeing Grandpa Ed again after a long day.
Mika was bouncing on her toes, Tyler, on the other hand, his hands were firmly gripping my sleeve, and he was leaning into me. Then there was Skyler, who stood a little further back, but I could see the curiosity in his eyes.
Although he didn’t speak as much as his siblings, he often noticed things others missed. He had this calm, observant demeanor that I’d come to love over the years.
And then, the sound of Noah’s car pulling into the driveway broke the silence. We all looked toward the door, and within a few moments, the doorbell rang, making Mika practically jump in the air.
“That’s Daddy!” She squeaked.
I smiled, walking toward the door with Tyler and Skyler trailing behind me. I opened the door, and there Noah was, looking as handsome as ever, with a smile that lit up his face. But it wasn’t just him-beside him stood his grandfather, Edward.
“Hey, you guys!” Noah greeted as he walked inside, his eyes immediately landing on our kids.
I turned to Edward and gave him a warm smile. He was an older man, but there was something incredibly youthful about him, especially when he smiled. Noah always said his grandfather was more like a father to him than his actual dad, Michael. And I could see why. Edward was kind, patient, and always treated me with nothing but love and respect. I’d bonded with him over the last two years, ever since Noah introduced me to him shortly after we registered our marriage. It was a memory I’d never forget-the way he’d pulled me into a warm embrace and told me to always address him as Father.
I stepped forward, wrapping my arms around him in a deep hug. “It’s so good to see you, Edward.”
He chuckled softly, his arms tightening around me. “It’s been too long, my dear.” He pulled back, looking at me. “You look as beautiful as ever.”
I couldn’t help but blush. “Thank you.”
The kids were already asking for attention behind me, and Edward turned to them.
“Where are the kids?” He asked.
I pointed behind me, smiling as I watched them swirl in excitement. “They’re right here.”
Edward’s eyes widened, his mouth dropping open. “Impossible!” he exclaimed, looking back and forth at Mika, Tyler, and Skyler. “How did they grow so big in just two years?”
I laughed softly, watching as Mika stepped forward, always the first to make an impression. “This is Mika.” I said, smiling as she bounced on her heels.
Edward crouched down in front of her, with a playful look in his eye. “And I’m guessing you’re the troublemaker, huh?”
Mika giggled, and smiled widely. “I’m not troublesome!”
Edward chuckled, shaking his head. Then he looked up at Tyler and Skyler. “So, which one of you is Tyler, and which one is Skyler?”
Tyler spoke up first, his voice shy but clear. “I’m Tyler.” Skyler smiled quietly beside him but didn’t say a word.
Edward smiled warmly, giving each of the kids a gentle peck on the cheek before Mika piped up again. “Do you have gifts for us?” She asked, her eyes wide open.
Edward grinned. “Oh, I have lots of gifts, little one. They’re all in my suitcase.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Let him have dinner first, Mika. We can get the gifts afterward, okay?” Mika pouted for a moment but then nodded, a little reluctant.
Dinner was quickly served, and the four of us sat down to eat. The conversation flowed easily, as it always did with Edward. He asked about the kids’ school, about my business, about Noah’s work. It was simple, but the love and warmth in the room made it feel special.
I turned to Edward once we’d all started eating. “How was your trip?”
He smiled, nodding. “It was good. A little tiring, but it’s always nice to be back home.”
After dinner, I turned to Jamie. “Can you tuck the kids in tonight?” I asked gently. “Mika, you’ll get your gifts tomorrow, I promise. Since it’s Saturday, you won’t have to go to school.” Mika cheered at the thought of having a whole day off and ran to Jamie, eager to get tucked in.
Once they were out of the room, Noah leaned over and kissed me lightly on the cheek. “I’ll show my grandfather to his room. You can go ahead and relax.”
I nodded. “Alright, I’ll be right here.”
Noah turned to Edward, who shook his head, a faint smile on his lips. “No, no. You go take your shower. I’ll let Mira show me to my room. I’m sure she’s been dying to talk to me.”
Noah chuckled and gave me a quick kiss before heading for the bathroom.
Edward and I stood in the hallway for a moment, before he turned to me, his expression softening. “So, how have you been these past two years, Mira?”
I smiled, walking with him toward his room. “I’ve been good, Edward. The kids keep me busy, but it’s a good kind of busy.”
“Good to hear.” His eyes twinkled. “And Noah? Has he been troublesome?”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Not at all. He’s the same as always-always the calm, reserved and understanding one.”
When we reached his room, I sighed lightly before opening the door. “Here we are,” I said, stepping aside to let him in.
Edward nodded, a satisfied look on his face. “Thank you, Mira. It’s been a long day, but I’m glad I’m here.”
I smiled. “I’m glad you’re home.”
He closed the door behind him, and I made my way back to our room. I lay down on the bed, waiting patiently for Noah to finish his shower. When he finally came out, he sat down beside me, a towel slung low around his hips.
“I’ll be having that dinner with Natasha tomorrow.” He revealed. “We’re going to that place, The Silver Fork.”
I froze for a moment. The Silver Fork was one of the most exclusive restaurants in the city. Paparazzi were always stationed outside, hoping to catch a glimpse of the celebrities that frequented it.
I looked at Noah, trying to hide my concern. “The Silver Fork?”
He nodded, oblivious to my unease. “Yeah. It’ll be fine. I’ll be home afterward.”
I forced a smile, trying to keep my tone light. “Sure. Sounds great.”
He leaned in and kissed me gently on the lips, quickly slipped on his pajamas then lay down beside me. I turned off the lights and closed my eyes, though my mind was still racing.
Tomorrow will be interesting. I just hoped everything would go smoothly.
