Chapter Forty Six.

Book:CEO EX-HUSBAND REGRET Published:2025-2-8

Mirabelle’s POV:
A few nights ago, Noah told me about a business event that Natasha had invited him to, happening tomorrow. Apparently, he’d have the chance to meet with the man who was looking to sell a few properties in Shanghai.
At first, I was skeptical, a part of me felt uneasy. But then, I heard a little voice in my head ask. “Don’t you think you’re overreacting?” I guess I had been overthinking it. But, really, who wouldn’t? Noah is every woman’s dream, he is supportive, a great listener, attentive, caring, and always there when you need him.
Don’t get me wrong, I trust Noah completely. I just can’t trust that feisty little model who seems to stir up something inside me.
“You look bothered, Ma’am. Is everything alright?” Jamie’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
I turned to her with a smile. “I’m fine, just work stuff.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Maybe you should take a few days off.”
After taking a sip of water, I replied. “I’ll be okay, Jamie. No need to worry so much.” I started to head out but paused at the door. “Oh, it’s getting late, so if you don’t finish the dishes tonight, you can leave them until morning.” With that, I made my way upstairs to our room.
As I opened the door, I took a deep breath, letting it out slowly as I stepped inside. Noah was already in bed, fast asleep with his back against the headboard, and his hands folded across his chest.
How is he so creepy
And sexy at the same time?
I tiptoed over to the bed and quietly climbed in. Then I crawled toward him, pulling out my phone from underneath my pillow. I positioned it to capture a picture of his face, I was about to snap the photo when, out of nowhere, he grabbed my wrist. Before I could react, he flipped me onto my back, pinning me to the bed, his body hovering over mine.
Panting, I gasped. “What the hell?! How long have you been awake?”
He smirked. “I was never asleep.”
I raised an eyebrow, laughing. “I never thought you were the deceitful type.”
He gave me a playful look. “I didn’t deceive you, Mira. I never said I was asleep-you just assumed I was.”
I pouted, crossing my arms. “Whatever.”
He leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to my cheek. “So, why did it take you so long to get a glass of water?” He asked.
I quickly made up an excuse. “I was talking to Jamie for a while.”
Deep down, I knew that if I’d told him about my concerns with the party and Natasha, he would’ve canceled without a second thought and found another way to secure the Shanghai property. But I didn’t want to burden him with that.
“What about?” He pressed.
Not wanting to dive into the conversation. “Aren’t you getting a little too nosy?” I playfully changed the subject. “It’s late, let’s just sleep.”
I pushed him off me, then snuggled into the bed, pulling the blankets up to my chin. I closed my eyes tightly, hoping he’d take the hint and drop it. He did, thankfully.
Morning arrived too quickly. We had breakfast, the kids went off to school, and Noah headed to the office. Jamie went out to do the grocery shopping, and I headed to another bankrupt company I was in the process of acquiring.
I didn’t spend much time there, though, as I had a brief meeting scheduled with the Board of Trustees at Quinn’s Inc. Afterward, I took care of some paperwork and, by the time it was past five, I wrapped up at the office and hurried home.
Once I arrived, I went straight to the kids’ room to check on them. They were already asleep, likely after a long lunch.
Then, I went to our room, expecting to find Noah, but he still hadn’t come home. I thought he would have returned early to get ready for the dinner.
Pulling my phone from my bag, I dialed his number. I held the phone to my ear as it rang, hoping Noah would pick up. After the third ring, his familiar voice echoed through the line.
“Hey, Mira?”
I exhaled. “I’m good. Where are you?”
There was a pause on the other end, and I could hear a bit of background noise before he replied. “I’m on my way to the airport.”
My brow furrowed. “The airport? What are you doing there?”
Noah chuckled softly, and I could tell he was amused by my surprise. “I’m picking up my grandad. Remember, he’s been traveling around for a while. He’s finally back.”
Fuck!. He had mentioned it to both me and the kids a few days ago, but I had forgotten because I was caught up in everything else. “Right,” I said, nodding to myself even though he couldn’t see. “I completely forgot. How could I forget that? It’s great he’s finally home.”
“Yeah, he’ll be here soon. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him, so I’m looking forward to catching up.”
A question hit me, and I had to ask. “What about dinner with Natasha? The one you were supposed to go to tonight?”
Noah let out a breath. “It got postponed. There was some kind of emergency on their end, so the dinner’s off for now. Honestly, I’m kind of relieved. I wanted to pick him up by myself, so I’m not too bothered about it.”
I couldn’t help but smile a little. “Well, I guess that’s a good thing then. If it’s no longer happening, I’ll just prepare dinner at home tonight.”
“No need to stress yourself out, Mira.” He replied. “He can always eat Jamie’s food. It’s not like he’s a traditional grandfather or anything.”
I laughed. “Still, it’s been a while since he’s had a home-cooked meal from me. I think he deserves it.”
There was a short silence between us, and then Noah spoke again. “I know he’ll appreciate it. I’ll be home soon, Mira.”
“Alright, take your time. I’ll get things started here,” I said. “I’ll talk to you later.”
“Love you.” He said before I could end the call.
“Love you, too,” I replied, smiling as I hung up.
I set the phone down and quickly stripped out of my work clothes, stepping into a hot shower. I dressed in something comfortable, loose leggings and a soft sweater. Before hurrying downstairs to the kitchen. And as I began chopping vegetables, a small smile tugged at my lips.
At least he won’t be seeing her tonight
