Mirabelle’s POV:
When I woke up, I realized that Noah wasn’t beside me. I frowned, glancing around the room. He wasn’t in the bathroom either. The sound of running water was absent. I pushed back the covers and swung my legs over the side of the bed, feeling the coolness of the floor against my feet.
I padded downstairs, and as I reached the kitchen, I found Jamie busy at the counter, preparing breakfast.
“Hey, Jamie,” I said, rubbing my eyes. “Have you seen Noah?”
She looked up. “Oh, good Ma’am! He had to rush out. All dressed up, too. I think he went to the office.”
“Thanks.” I turned to leave but Jamie called out after me.
“Wait a second!”
I turned back to see her scratching her head shyly. “What is it?”
“You, um, have a little stain on your clothes.” She pointed with a knowing look.
My cheeks flushed as I glanced down. “Oh no!” I exclaimed, rushing back upstairs.
Sure enough, there was a small stain on my pajama bottoms. Annoyed, I dashed into the bathroom.
Darn it! Why now?
I filled the bathtub, quickly took off my clothes, and climbed in. I took my time washing, scrubbing my legs, and preparing to shave. When I was done, I wrapped a towel around myself and slipped in a tampon.
Just as I was about to step out, a sharp pain pierced my abdomen. I gasped, dropping to the ground and clutching my stomach. “Fuck!” I screamed.
The bathroom door suddenly swung open, and Noah rushed in. “What’s wrong?” he asked, kneeling beside me.
“I-I’m on my period, and the cramps…” My voice trembled as I tried to breathe through the pain.
Without wasting much time, he scooped me up in his arms, lifting me as if I weighed nothing at all. “I’ve got you.” He said softly, carrying me to the bed.
“Thank you,” I whispered, still in pain.
“What can I do to help?” He asked, genuinely concerned.
“Honestly, nothing,” I murmured, turning away to curl up in the blankets. The pain was insane, making it hard for me to focus on anything or anyone else.
Noah didn’t take my word for it. He kept checking on me. The first time he returned, he had painkillers in his hand. “Here, take these.” He urged, and I did, hoping they would work.
After a while, he came back with a warm compress. “I thought this might help.” He said, pressing it gently against my belly. I closed my eyes, the warmth soothing the pain a little.
Eventually, he returned with a small bottle of massage oil. “Mind if I try something else?” He asked, sitting beside me and I nodded.
As he massaged my belly, the pain started to fade, and I felt myself drifting off to sleep. I woke up later to find the bed empty again.
I quickly dressed in a casual outfit and made my way to his study, where I suspected him to be. When I stepped in, I found him at his laptop, focused and busy.
“Hey,” I called softly.
He looked up, a smile spreading across his face. “Hey.”
I approached him, wrapping my arms around his shoulders from behind, planting a peck on his cheek. “Thanks for taking care of me earlier.”
He turned in his chair, grabbing my hand. “I’ll always take care of you. Come sit.” He said, pulling me onto his lap.
I settled in. “I feel a little better now,” I said, resting my head against his shoulder. “Just a bit sore.”
“That’s good to hear. Craving anything?” he asked, his fingers gently stroking my back.
“Maybe some toast?” I replied, smiling at him.
He leaned closer, planting a soft kiss on my lips. “I’ll make you some in a minute. But first, I need to tell you something.”
“What’s up?” I asked.
“The investors invited me to a dinner party happening in a few days.” He said, his eyes brightening. “They want me to bring you as my plus one. I know it’s short notice, but I’d really love for you to come.”
“Really? That sounds exciting!” I replied.
“They’re finally going to introduce me to the model they insisted I work with.” He added.
As we entered the kitchen, I noticed that Jamie had already finished breakfast and was nowhere to be seen.
“Jamie already made breakfast?” I asked, glancing around.
“Yeah, but I told her not to wake you,” Noah replied, opening the pantry. “I wanted to make you something special-avocado toast. Figured you’d appreciate that.”
“That sounds great.” I smiled, watching him as he grabbed avocados and bread.
While Noah was busy slicing the avocados, Jamie suddenly walked by, a stack of paperwork in her hands. “Good Afternoon, Sir. Do you need any help with breakfast?” She asked, pausing in the doorway.
“No, I’ve got it covered,” Noah said, glancing up at her. “Mirabelle’s awake, so I’m making her avocado toast.”
“Okay then!” Jamie said with a grin. “I have to run; I’m picking up the kids soon.”
“Don’t worry about us.” I chimed in.
“See you later!” Jamie laughed, waving as she left the room.
Once she was gone, I watched Noah finish preparing the toast. He carefully plated it, arranging it beautifully. “All done.” He said, setting the plate in front of me.
“Looks delicious!” I said, taking a seat at the table. I took a bite, savoring the creamy avocado and the crunch of the toast. “Mmm! You’re a natural chef.”
He chuckled, leaning against the counter. “Just trying to impress you.”
About thirty minutes later, the front door swung open, and I heard the excited chatter of the kids returning home from school.
“Mommy! Daddy!” They called out in unison, their backpacks bouncing as they rushed into the kitchen.
“Hey, you three!” Noah greeted them, kneeling down for hugs. Mika wrapped her arms around him tightly. Skyler simply smiled shyly, while Tyler clung to me.
“How was school today?” I asked, smiling.
“Can we have snacks?” Mika asked.
“After you take off your uniforms and wash up,” Noah replied firmly. “Jamie will help you with that. Go on now.”
The kids nodded, running off but then a wave of nausea hit me again
“I think I’ll just…” I started, but before I could finish my sentence, the nausea overwhelmed me. I bolted to the kitchen sink and threw up, the contents of my breakfast splattering into the basin.
When I finally regained myself, I wiped my mouth and turned around, still feeling a bit shaky.
Then I stepped back into the main area.
“Mommy, are you pregnant?” Skyler asked innocently.
