Helen screamed and shrank into the corner, her arms raised in a defensive posture.
“Bang~” Lillian made a sound with her mouth. “Ms. Helen, I thought you had more courage, but it turns out you’re still afraid of dying.”
Lillian added, “Today, your house of cards is collapsing. Tomorrow, every word and action of yours will be exposed and dissected. The fame you’ve accumulated as a movie queen over the years, today, will be shrouded in dark clouds, never to see the light again.”
“This is the only gift I’m giving you.” Lillian tapped Helen’s face with the gun. “Helen, you better hold on. If you jump out of a window tonight, I’ll lose all respect for you.”
“You… you’re doing this to your own mother! Aren’t you afraid of retribution?”
“You’re my mother, and that’s already the greatest retribution God could give me. You should ask yourself that. If there’s really any retribution, then let it come! You think I still care?”
Helen stared at Lillian, and in that moment, she realized more clearly than ever before.
Lillian had changed.
She wasn’t the same Lillian anymore…
“You’re just relying on Conrad…”
“Yeah, he wants to keep me, so why shouldn’t I use his power?” Lillian shoved the gun back into her purse. “The game has begun. Just wait and watch as everything you have slowly disappears. I look forward to the day you have nothing.”
Lillian caused a huge scene at Helen’s training class opening ceremony, and just ten minutes after it went online, Lillian’s presence vanished.
Whenever someone mentioned Lillian’s name in any group, the group would instantly explode.
No one dared to bring her up; they had to shift the focus to Helen, the so-called “movie queen” who had become a terror.
A secret marriage, a daughter, that wasn’t even the worst of it. But to follow her brother, force her biological mother-if this happened to an ordinary person, it would be an intolerable stain!
This went beyond just a personal issue.
Moreover, Helen had such a massive influence both domestically and internationally.
What if someone started copying her behavior?
Could she still be called an idol?
Could she still enjoy the title of “virtuous and talented”?
The online world had turned into a battlefield, with fans having nothing to do but lay down and accept the ridicule from the real public.
If Helen had been exposed for something else, they might have been able to cover it up, but this was no longer just a nasty scandal-it was much worse!
With things blowing up this big, how could Conrad not know?
Gordon furrowed his brow and turned back. “I’ve had all the trending searches about Lillian removed, but everyone should already know your relationship with her.”
Lillian was now beyond caring.
No wonder she had suddenly wanted to buy clothes and go out.
It turned out she was planning to disrupt Helen’s training class conference, pulling Helen down completely.
“If it helps her to ease the resentment, it might not be such a bad idea,” Lionel spoke slowly. “It’s better than staying quiet at home.”
Everyone turned their gaze to Conrad.
No one could predict what he would do with Lillian.
But Conrad just kept smoking, made a phone call, and asked, “Where is she?”
The other person said something, and Conrad grabbed his jacket to leave.
“Where are you going?”
“To pick up Lillian.”
Hogan couldn’t resist asking, “Don’t be too hard on her. It’s such a small thing.”
Ruining Helen wouldn’t be a big deal; the woman had it coming.
Conrad paused for a moment before continuing to walk forward. “I won’t. As long as she’s happy, she can tear City N apart if she wants to.”
As long as Lillian stayed with him, that was all that mattered.
She could do whatever she wanted.
******
John had been left by Helen on the roadside, in an area where it was hard to catch a cab. He waited for a long time before finally finding a private car. He paid $200 and asked the driver to take him home.
What made him feel even more uncomfortable was that the driver was listening to the news about the current events, including the scandal involving Helen.
John feared the driver might recognize him.
“These celebrities, huh? Their careers are collapsing, and they dare to do all kinds of illegal things. Don’t you think? People like that don’t even spare their own mothers! They’re nothing but beasts.”
John forced an awkward smile.
“Hey, people like that will get their comeuppance sooner or later. Why are you sweating so much? Are you hot?”
John hurriedly urged, “I’m in a hurry to get home. You can drop me off up ahead.”
When he finally arrived home, John had barely stepped out of the car and was sneaking into the villa district when he heard Grace’s scream, “What are you doing?! What do you want?!”
Since Fanny became disabled, she had been too scared to see anyone, often going mad, and cursing Lillian. Grace didn’t have the time to play cards with the rich women anymore. She was constantly running between the hospital and home.
As for John’s business dealings and his affairs, she didn’t care. So when Lillian and her people came in, Grace instinctively felt weak in her legs.
She thought Lillian had come again with a group to raid the house.
However, Lillian only had her people pour gasoline and douse the entire first floor.
Grace was no match for these bodyguards.
Lillian, wearing the black wolf ring on her neck, and her words were a direct reflection of Conrad’s orders.
The bodyguards, who had seen everything with Conrad, knew exactly what to do.
The Harper family? If it burned, so be it.
Lillian sat on the sofa, lighting a cigarette lighter, quietly listening to Grace’s cries and pleas.
“Lillian, please, Lillian! Don’t do this!”
“Lillian, we’re your uncle and aunt!”
Lillian curled her lips into a smile, looking at Grace with confusion. She wondered how Grace had the audacity to say such things.
“Miss Lillian, everything’s ready.”
Lillian nodded. “Make sure not to burn the neighbors’ houses.”
“Don’t worry.”
Lillian led the group outside, showing no sign of care for Grace’s desperate pleas.
When John came back, he was met with this scene.
He rushed over, shouting, “What’s going on here?!”
Lillian looked at him, and before he could react, the bodyguards shoved him to the ground. She lit the lighter in her hand, and then threw it onto the floor.
The flames shot up immediately.
The fire quickly engulfed the first floor of the Harper family home.
“What are you doing?! What do you want to do?!” John shouted furiously, struggling on the ground, but unable to get anywhere near Lillian.
His powerless rage only made Lillian laugh.
John thought Lillian looked like a demon at that moment.
She was absolutely insane!
She and Conrad truly were a match made in heaven!!!
“You’re damn crazy!”
Lillian’s smile faded. “If you know I’m crazy, then from now on, you better be careful even when you go to sleep at night, or one day, you might die by my hands.”
Grace crawled desperately, “John, John, think of something, there’s still so much stuff in the house!”
John quickly dialed 911. “You’re setting this fire on purpose! Don’t think you can escape!”
Lillian looked at him as if he were an idiot, then her gaze shifted to the car that had just arrived. “Do you think that phone call will help?”
The car door opened, and a man’s long legs hit the ground.
Conrad stepped out of the car, looking at the blazing fire and the Harper family who were crying out.
His eyes landed on Lillian, who was wearing a black dress.
