Lillian, hearing these questions, felt a deep sense of amusement. Yes, that’s exactly what she thought and did.
“As for the latest news on Helen, it should be online by now. I don’t want to use my grandmother’s death to gain attention, but I think any of you with a bit of intelligence can figure out who exactly benefited from all the so-called medical fees Helen has supposedly been paying.”
As soon as Lillian finished speaking, the reporters immediately pulled out their phones.
At that moment, the top trending topic on social media was all about Grandma Kristin’s medical records and the three times Grandma Kristin had gone into shock before her death, including testimonies from nurses at Boyd Town and witnesses from the same ward. It also included statements from the villagers of Boyd Town.
Meanwhile, Lillian’s relationship with Conrad had quietly been discovered by a group of people.
The necklace around Lillian’s neck, the bodyguards by her side… but all this information was quickly suppressed, causing no real stir.
The attention was now focused entirely on Helen.
Boyd Town Hospital even released details about Grandma Kristin’s condition outside the ward, showing John hurriedly leaving, spitting on the ground, while the doctors and nurses rushed in for emergency care. People had passed by the entrance, but this son never even looked back.
Major news websites were crashing under the weight of the information!
Helen’s name was exploding, and even now, people were still gathering to see what was going on.
As for the confrontation between Lillian and Helen, the live stream rooms were packed to the brim.
Realizing things were spiraling out of control, John quickly grabbed Helen and tried to run.
Helen, unwilling to give up, still wanted to explain and salvage her reputation. But at this point, no matter what she said, she couldn’t present any evidence to prove that everything was a lie!
Those who had already seen the direction of the situation quickly sent a team to Boyd Town to gather more information on Helen’s situation.
Meanwhile, Helen’s and Alvin’s marriage certificate was dug up and released by netizens. This confirmed that everything Lillian had revealed was true.
Helen had not only gotten married and had a child during her peak years, but she also made a swift return to work just three months after giving birth and decided to go abroad afterward!
Helen’s lies crumbled like a row of dominoes, unable to withstand the scrutiny of netizens.
She was hurriedly escorted out the back door by John, nearly getting crushed by the swarm of reporters.
Even once in the car, they couldn’t move. It took forever to drive out of the venue.
John kept stamping his feet in the car, muttering, “What do we do now? What do we do? This damn girl, we’re finished! We’re finished!”
Helen was trembling all over, unable to believe what had just happened.
The fans she had specially invited were in chaos, asking her to speak while reporters swarmed around them.
Her magazines and gifts she had planned to hand out were all trampled underfoot, thrown to the ground. They were stepping all over her achievements, trying to dig out the gossip behind it all.
How could these people treat her this way?
She was Helen, their idol!
Tears streamed down Helen’s face.
“I… I can’t be knocked down. I can’t become a rat in the street. I shouldn’t be like this… this shouldn’t be happening!”
She thought for a moment before growling, “It’s all Lillian’s fault! It’s all her fault! Why did I have to give birth to such a devil?!”
John impatiently snapped, “What good is saying that now?!”
“The old woman’s dead, of course, she’ll get her revenge. Why didn’t she just die sooner?!”
Wasn’t it just said that Conrad wouldn’t return? That Lillian wouldn’t either?
Everything was supposed to be fine.
Damn it!
Just thinking about it made John want to explode.
“Stop the car!” Helen suddenly ordered the driver to pull over, and then shoved John out of the car. “Get out!”
John looked bewildered. “Are you crazy? Where do you want me to go now?”
“I don’t care where you go! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be in this mess today! If you hadn’t tortured Lillian, she wouldn’t hate me this much!”
“Helen, get it straight! If you hadn’t always been so selfish, would I have had to work so hard? You owe me for this! I’m not giving you a single penny from those investors! Don’t even think about it!”
Helen was furious, so angry she wanted to strangle John right then and there.
John watched helplessly as Helen’s car drove away, fuming and stomping his feet in place.
Helen dialed Peter’s number while anxiously calling her wealthy friends, hoping they could help her with their connections.
But to her surprise, all of them hung up on her!
Unable to reach Peter, her frustration was obvious.
Finally, Peter picked up, and Helen didn’t wait for him to speak. She immediately snapped, “Why didn’t you answer your phone? Do you even know what kind of situation I’m in? Have you completely forgotten about me as your wife, Peter?!”
Peter stayed silent on the other end of the line.
“Say something! Why aren’t you saying anything? You need to contact your friends overseas and back home. Help me suppress this, and we’ll go back to the country immediately. We’ll pretend none of this happened as long as it doesn’t spread abroad! I can still preserve my international reputation!”
“You’re really crazy,” Peter replied.
“Crazy? Peter!!! You’re the one who’s crazy! Do you even know what you’re saying?!”
“We should get a divorce. Sophia can’t go with you. I don’t want her to become the second Lillian…”
Helen froze, as if struck by lightning. “NO! NO!! Peter, you’re bringing up divorce now? You want to leave me?!?”
Helen opened her mouth, staring out the window, her tears blurring her vision. “Do you even know what you’re saying? You’re abandoning me! You’re hurting me! How could you do this to me, Peter?!”
“Maybe from the very beginning, I shouldn’t have come back with you. If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have known what kind of person I was really facing.” Peter took a deep breath. “I’ll have my assistant send you the divorce papers.”
“No!”
Before Helen could say anything else, the call was abruptly ended.
She stared at the screen in disbelief.
The driver, terrified, hadn’t dared to move.
“Miss…?”
“Get out, get out!” Helen suddenly went into a frenzy, grabbing her hair. “Get out! All of you get out!”
They were all going to betray her! She couldn’t trust anyone anymore!
Even the calm and graceful woman she once was became terrifying when enraged.
The driver, fearing Helen might start throwing things, quickly pulled over and left her by the side of the road.
Helen watched the cars drive by and saw pedestrians staring at their phones, their mouths agape in shock.
She felt as if they were all talking about her.
They were all watching her downfall.
How could this happen? She should’ve been enjoying flowers and applause for her entire life.
Before Helen could break into sobs, the car door was suddenly flung open.
Startled, Helen instinctively covered her face, reaching for her sunglasses, but someone was faster than her. What blocked her forehead wasn’t sunglasses, but a gun.
Helen stared blankly at Lillian standing in front of her.
In stunned silence, Helen asked, “What do you want? What do you want from me? Isn’t destroying me enough?!”
“Of course, it’s not enough. You should die.” Lillian leaned in close, pushing Helen into the car. “Is it painful? Desperate? Suffocating? This is nothing compared to the suffering my grandmother endured before she died.”
“Fine, then kill me! Kill me now!!!” Helen shouted.
“Dying is easy. This is just the beginning, Ms. Helen,” Lillian said, then pulled the trigger.
