“I’m Justin.”
Lillian remembered now. This was the guy who went on a blind date with Fanny.
How did he end up here?
“How did you get here?” Justin asked the same question.
Lillian wasn’t going to tell him the truth. “I’m working here.”
Unexpectedly, Justin smiled at her. “I thought I was seeing things for a second. I didn’t expect it to actually be you.”
Lillian just hoped he would leave quickly.
“Justin.”
At that moment, a group of people had already been led in, and the head waiter kept giving Lillian subtle signals.
“Mom,” Justin called out to the crowd.
Lillian looked up, but froze in place. She recognized these people-she had known them before and had once stood behind them, walking in with her father.
“Justin, is this someone you know?”
“Mom, this is the girl I mentioned to you last time.”
Lillian didn’t know how to leave, and to her surprise, Justin turned out to be the son of Director Vincent from the police station. It made sense though-Grace was always so eager and determined, and for Fanny to show up so dressed up, the identity of her potential match must have been impressive.
“Have we met somewhere before?” Director Vincent stared at Lillian for a moment before speaking.
“Are you Alvin’s daughter?” Mrs. Vincent asked, suddenly recalling.
Justin was surprised. “Mom, Dad, you know her?”
“How could we not know her? We watched her grow up. How have you been recently?” Mrs. Vincent smiled and pulled Lillian’s hand, greeting her warmly.
“Everything’s fine.” Lillian’s face grew slightly tense when her father was mentioned.
Alvin loved his face. If anyone found out that his precious daughter was serving at an event like this, he’d never be able to rest in peace.
Lillian could feel the eyes of the group on her. She smiled and said, “I need to get back to work. Mr. Vincent, Mrs. Vincent, enjoy yourselves.”
Just as she was about to leave, Justin hurried to catch up, wanting to explain that nothing had happened after the blind date with Fanny.
But he was stopped by his mother.
“Justin!” Mrs. Vincent frowned. “Is she the one you love?”
“What’s wrong with that? She’s great, and you know her parents, right?”
“Knowing them is one thing, but that was years ago. Listen to Mom. Don’t get involved with her anymore. I don’t like her uncle’s family. If it weren’t for your aunt going to play mahjong and them constantly pushing their daughter on us, I wouldn’t have even wanted you to meet her.”
“Mom, I’m an adult now. Do I need your approval to love someone?”
Mrs. Vincent’s face darkened. “Just because she’s Alvin’s daughter and has such a terrible reputation, do you want us to have a daughter-in-law like that? Where would that leave your father and me? How could we face anyone?”
“Enough! This is our chance to show face. Don’t make a scene over an insignificant woman! Do you know that yesterday, Mr. Simon, president of the King Family Group, and his team arrived in City N? They’re here for the collaboration with City N this year. This party today is huge, and it absolutely cannot be treated casually!”
After Mrs. Vincent finished speaking, she immediately smiled and nodded at familiar faces in the distance, pulling Justin along to chat.
Lillian had slipped into a corner, scanning the venue, unsure when Peter would arrive.
Her phone contained a lot of material about the movie. If she could get Peter to agree tonight, it would make securing resources much easier.
Just as she was thinking about this, a commotion erupted.
“Mr. Conrad has arrived!”
“Mr. Conrad’s plane is outside!”
Lillian tried her best to keep a low profile.
In the past few days, Conrad had called her even while he was out of town. She had stayed at the villa, and he had promised to bring her a gift when he returned. Now, she had been out for a few hours. If she returned before he got home tomorrow, it should be fine.
That is, if Conrad didn’t find out she was here.
Bodyguards in black suits cleared the way, and the powerful figure of the man stepped down from the helicopter. Behind him were Hogan and the others.
Everyone had been curious about who Conrad’s companion would be today.
It wasn’t until they saw the rumored girlfriend of the starlet, Pandora, the spokesperson for Brown Family Group, that everyone finally understood.
So, she was the one, the movie queen. The last time Conrad had been photographed, it was with this woman.
It seemed Miss Daisy’s position hadn’t been officially announced yet and wasn’t fully secure after all…
Daisy had naturally arrived long ago, with her parents. She only maintained a composed smile when she saw the situation unfold.
Mrs. Nelson, on the other hand, looked much less pleased. The romantic rumors about Conrad had never stopped, and the women around him kept coming and going. Now, in front of so many people, he had made the White family look bad! He was parading around with a movie star!
Nelson, however, remained calm. “Where’s Martin? Didn’t he say he was almost here?”
Daisy snapped out of her thoughts and tugged at her lips. “He said he was on the way. He should have arrived by now. I don’t know where he’s hiding. Dad, you know how he is-he doesn’t like to get involved in the crowd.”
Nelson sighed. If only his son had half the character of Conrad, the White family wouldn’t be the subject of mockery today.
Pandora was stealing the spotlight. With her striking features and her high-end gown, not to mention the priceless jewelry around her neck, she had become the center of attention.
All eyes-whether envious, curious, or jealous-were focused on Pandora.
Among those watching was Evelyn, who had come with Martin. She had never been to an event like this before and could only pretend to stay calm. But even though she wore her most expensive dress, she still felt inferior, as if she were less well-dressed than the waitstaff.
With the aroma of red wine and champagne, the glimmering jewelry, and the lavish setting, it felt as though Pandora’s box had opened, revealing an enchanting world.
Evelyn was thrilled that she had stepped into high society, but when she saw Pandora next to Conrad, a twisted, hateful jealousy surged inside her, bubbling to the surface.
Martin wasn’t going to take her to meet his parents.
“Miss Evelyn, I need to find my friends. If you need anything, just have someone come find me,” he said.
At that moment, Evelyn couldn’t care less about Martin. He wasn’t as generous as Conrad, who would spend money on her, buying her things. Martin hadn’t even brought a flower when he picked her up today.
“Alright, you go ahead,” she replied.
As Martin made his way toward the White family, Evelyn planned to find a moment alone in the corner to apologize to Conrad. She could always apologize to Lillian too, it didn’t matter–as long as she could stay close to Conrad.
Once she left him, she would realize that no other man could compare to him! She didn’t care about men her age. Only powerful men like Conrad were the ones Evelyn wanted!
Lillian, meanwhile, watched as Pandora smiled sweetly and mingled with Conrad, her expression indifferent as she looked away. Fortunately, she soon spotted Peter, though he seemed to be accompanying his wife and daughter upstairs.
Lillian quickly left from a different corner.
What she didn’t expect was that Evelyn, who shouldn’t have been here, had spotted her!
