For celebrities, being insulted, slandered, and lied about is all too common.
In her original world, Sarah wasn’t actually that famous. But she somehow always got a lot of attention.
At first, some people criticized her for being too pretty, like a pretty face with no substance, saying that whenever they saw her in a movie, it pulled them out of the story.
Then, when she terminated her contract with her company, they hired a bunch of trolls to trash her character, claiming she had a sugar daddy and was being kept.
Damn it, the entertainment big shots in Sarah’s world were all ugly, with beer bellies big enough to carry three babies. Even if she were poor enough to pick up trash, she wouldn’t let herself be kept by them!
A person can be killed but not humiliated!
Later, people noticed that Sarah’s opportunities in the industry were terrible. They figured that if a starlet with her looks and body was being supported by some rich boss, her opportunities shouldn’t be this bad.
So, the rumors got an upgrade. Now they said that Sarah was having an affair with a big-shot executive but got caught by his wife, who then blacklisted her, which was why her opportunities were so awful.
Oh, actually, the wife of that big-shot executive from the rumors was into girls. She had even made a pass at Sarah, but since Sarah was straight, she didn’t want to get involved with someone who was already married. So, she turned her down.
After going through so much drama and turmoil, looking at the stuff on David’s phone seemed like small potatoes to her.
Sarah just wanted to say that this was no big deal. If people wanted to insult her, let them. As long as it made them happy.
Sarah wondered if throwing a few insults her way was going to make anyone rich or beautiful. She didn’t care about stirring up drama on reality shows or any of that; she just wanted to focus on acting and leave behind some worthwhile work.
She had the looks and the body, and she wanted to use them for something meaningful. Just like in her original world, where she’d often played supporting roles in various movies. Even if the roles and the opportunities weren’t great, she poured her heart and soul into every character, and people noticed. Her fanbase slowly grew, and some even cleared up the rumors about her, creating compilations of her scenes and talking about her journey to success.
If she hadn’t ended up in this book, Sarah figured she would’ve continued to thrive in her original world.
But now that she was here-well, she’d just have to make the best of it.
She was living in a multi-million dollar mansion, driving luxury sports cars, and married to a ridiculously handsome husband who, while not in love with her, still sent her money every month.
It wasn’t all that different from her old world, really.
“Lying on camera like that? It’s so obvious and easy to see through.” Sarah scoffed. “We never bullied any of our classmates, right?”
Merry’s expression turned a bit weird.
Sarah felt a jolt of anxiety. She really couldn’t remember the specifics of the original Sarah’s high school life; the book didn’t go into that much detail.
Merry said, “We did pick on the girlfriends Ronald had back then… But those girls always tried to show off in front of us… Elisa wasn’t one of Ronald’s girlfriends; I didn’t even notice her in school.”
“Yeah,” David nodded. “Elisa was pretty unremarkable back in school. I barely remember her. She didn’t look anything like you back then. She’s deliberately styled herself to look like you to catch Ronald’s eye.”
Merry nodded. “Ronald and you were meant to be, and she just stole him away! If she hadn’t been copying you, Ronald would never have noticed her. Once you came back to town, you and Ronald were supposed to be together!”
Hearing Ronald’s name gave Sarah a headache. She made a “stop” gesture. “Don’t bring him up! True love can’t be stolen, and he and Elisa are perfect for each other.”
Sarah really didn’t want to have anything to do with that jerk of a male lead.
She was picky.
David’s phone buzzed with a few new messages. He opened them up; they were from Nora. She said her mom didn’t like the hospital food.
David transferred $60, 000 to her and replied, [Tell your mom to order food from a nearby hotel.]
Watching David sweetly flirt with his girlfriend, Merry started feeling like she wanted to find herself a handsome guy again. For some reason, she always ended up with guys who were just after her money.
Merry sighed.
She didn’t have much to do all day, so she thought about maybe joining her parents’ company to get some good experience in the future. She also sent Alice a message, asking her to reach out to the media to keep them from spreading the video of Elisa trashing Sarah today.
Sarah didn’t pay any attention to the comments online, but Merry couldn’t stand seeing people talk bad about her friend like that.
Sarah quickly finished her meal and drove home. Holden was away on a business trip again, so it was just Sarah and the housekeeper at home.
Sarah took the fruit platter that Butler Ted handed her and pinched her own cheek, “Butler Ted, have I gained weight recently?”
Butler Ted paused before replying, “Lady, you and the words ‘gain weight’ have nothing in common.”
To be honest, in Butler Ted’s eyes, Sarah looked a bit more filled out than before. She used to be so pale, almost like a paper doll, without any sign of being alive. Now, Sarah had more color and looked healthier; even her hair wasn’t falling out anymore.
Butler Ted no longer had to have the housekeeper secretly follow her around to pick up strands of her hair. Now, it was much thicker and shinier, and she looked like a lively and stunning beauty.
Sarah popped a piece of fruit into her mouth and turned on the TV.
With nothing to do, Butler Ted was scrolling through his phone when he suddenly looked up, “Lady.”
Sarah asked, “Yeah?”
Butler Ted said, “You’re in the news, and there are a lot of people trashing you.”
Sarah felt a pang in her heart. She already knew.
Merry had asked her aunt to help suppress the rumors, but Alice didn’t have enough influence in the entertainment industry to control everything. She could only stop the gossip accounts tied to their company from spreading the news.
But other accounts, smelling the chance for some traffic, immediately jumped on the bandwagon.
With her looks, whether it was a scandal or good news, anything involving Sarah caught people’s attention.
In just a few hours, Sarah had been labeled with titles like “bully girl,” “angelic bitch,” and “out-of-control rich kid,” among others.
Butler Ted offered, “Here, let me show you.”
Sarah, feeling exhausted, waved her hand, “No need.”
She was already numb to these insults but that didn’t mean she wanted to read them again.
Who wants to read nasty comments about themselves while eating?
Butler Ted couldn’t stand people talking about her like that. After watching for a bit and seeing enough, he sent Holden a message.
