CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVEN
CATHERINE’S POV
I have been preparing to fake over Harley and Ava when they least expect it, and Nikky has been teaching me to fight, in case Harley takes another turn when I arrive at Burke’s Mansion.
“You know this training every day isn’t necessary, right?” I asked Nikky, as I fell to the ground, looking tired and stressed.
Nikky chuckled, dropped her sword to the ground and sat beside me.
“Daddy isn’t thinking straight, so if Ava can make him think we were the enemies, he would think it. He loves Ava with all of his heart and there is hardly enough for us, his family,” Nikky said, resting her head on my sweaty shoulder.
“I know, you think I don’t know that?” I asked rhetorically, still breathing hard, trying to catch my breath.
“So we have to be prepared, mentally and physically, mum. Ricky and Dikky miss you so much, and I hate the fact that I can’t tell them where you are,” She said, playing with the sword.
I miss Dikky and Ricky too, and I wish I could see them every day; the heart still calls for Burke, but I don’t know if he still feels the same way about me; probably, he has forgotten about me.
“I miss them too,” I whispered and Nikky nodded her head, signifying that she knows I miss them.
“If you want to see them again, you will get your ass up so that we can practice further,” She said, standing up on her feet; El has taught Nikky a lot, which I am most grateful for.
“Do you think Burke is missing me?” I asked, gulping hard, preparing to hear any truth that Nikky would say, whether bitter or truthful. Nikky would not sugarcoat it.
I just want to be sure that I’m not the only one feeling this emptiness like I am feeling.
“What? Are you doubting the fact that Daddy misses you?” Nikky asked as she looked at me surprised.
I shrugged my shoulders in response, not knowing what to tell her
“Yes, I am doubting it, because I can’t get the fact that he is getting married to Harley, out of my fucking head,” I confessed, looking to the ground, the thought that Harley and Burke would have had sex couldn’t leave my head, It felt like he would be cheating on me when he doesn’t even know I am. Still alive.
“Daddy was forced to marry Harley, and you know that,” Nikky said, sitting beside me again.
“Did she put a freaking gun to his head?” I asked Sarcastically, rolling my eyes at him.
“No, she didn’t put a gun to his head, but he didn’t have a choice, Mum,” Nikky said, still defending Burke as she knew him before me.
“Everyone has a choice, Nikky, I don’t buy that bullshit of a story,” I said, almost yelling. Nikky just looked at me and was lost for words.
“Mum, when they claimed you were dead, Daddy almost died with him, at the wedding he felt like a lost sheep, and since that day, Daddy had not given me a genuine smile since that day, he doesn’t even think straight, he misses you, mum,” She said, covering my hand with her dainty fingers.
“That’s assuring, young lady,” I chuckled, giving her a side hug
“How’s the training going, or are you guys having a mother and daughter time?” El asked, disturbing the moment, like she always does.
“Yes, we are. Can you leave us alone now?” I whined, laughing heartily.
“How’s the training?” She asked genuinely. This time around, Nikky and I nodded our heads, telling her it was going to be fine.
“I’m damn ready to chop off Harley’s head if she tries anything that isn’t right,” I assumed, flinging the sword at El, who dragged the sword from my hand and threw it to the ground.
“I’m happy you are getting somewhere with your training, but you cannot kill Harley,” El said, making Nikky and I burst into a round of laughter, it sounded funny at first until El didn’t join us in the laughter, which meant she was damn serious about us not killing Harley.
“It’s a joke, El, you need to laugh too,” I said, thinking El had forgotten to laugh, even if I knew it wasn’t possible to do that.
“It’s not a joke, Catherine, you can’t kill Harley,” she repeated herself, forgetting the times that Harley had tried to kill her.
“And if we kill her, what are you going to do about it?” Nikky asked, standing to get feet, as she faced the huge figure of El.
“Then you leave me no option than to stop you,” She said, and I scoffed at her.
“You have got no powers, why would you think you can stop me, El?” I asked, trying hard not to laugh at the absurdity of her words.
“I have got the truth, Catherine,” She yelled, making me confused once again.
“What Truth?” I asked, sincerely confused.
“Do you want to know the truth, Catherine?” She asked, and I shook my head.
“If the truth requires me not to kill Harley, then I don’t wanna know,” I said sternly, and El’s mouth dropped open in surprise; she never thought I would be that heartless.
“You need to know the truth, Catherine, it’s going to go a long way for you,” She continued, being persuasive, and truthfully speaking, I want to know the truth, but if that means forgiving Harley, then I don’t want to know it.
“She said she doesn’t want to know the truth, and if you try to tell her, I promise that it will be your last time speaking,” Nikky threatened El. Nikky is just like her father; her threats can’t be taken literally.
“She needs to know the truth, Nikky, and I can’t keep guarding the truth when she has already regained her memory,” El yelled, determined to tell me the truth, so that I don’t kill Harley.
“Have you forgotten that Harley had tried to rip you off your life multiple times, and you don’t want her dead,” I yelled, standing up to my feet.
“She doesn’t know the truth, Harley, if she does, she would never want to kill or humiliate me,” El confessed, making me confused.
“How the fuck did you come into the picture, El?” I asked, confused.
“There is a lot you don’t know, and Nikky doesn’t know that too. Give me a chance to tell you the truth so you don’t regret killing Harley,” She said, almost sobbing, but I tried not to care about that.
“I won’t regret killing Harley, just try me,” I said harshly, and about leaving her when her next words shocked me.
“Harley’s your sister,” She yelled after me.
I stopped immediately and turned around to look El in the eyes, so I would know if this was some prank.
“What did you just say?” I asked, still confused.
“Harley is your sister, and I am your grandmother,” El confessed.
