CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND TEN
CATHERINE’S POV
I increased my running pace, without looking back.
A handsome stranger just called my name, and he looked like me as if he knew who I was.
“Who are you?” He yelled, but I kept running.
He didn’t enter the coven to run after me; rather, he kept yelling.
“You look like my wife, Catherine; I’m sorry if I scared you,” He yelled further but didn’t stop running.
“I’m Burke,” His voice was faint because I had run miles away from him.
I stopped at a tree to catch my breath, but I ensured he was not running after me; luckily, he wasn’t.
“Wait, his wife’s name is Catherine? ” I asked myself after realizing what he had said.
I felt this was not a coincidence; I had a feeling that I was his wife.
“His name’s Burke, and it sounds very familiar,” I said, to myself, trying to recall where I heard his name.
“Fuck, my head,” I screamed in pain, holding my head; I had triggered my memory again, and this man most has been part of my past to trigger my memory.
“Nikky” I yelled out for help, falling to the ground with my nose bleeding uncontrollably; the pain that comes with trying to regain my memory forcefully is something I’m not ready to undergo.
“Mummy, what happened to you?” Nikky yelled, running to my side.
I removed a whiter napkin from her pocket and cleaned my bleeding nose with it.
“I don’t know, a man triggered me,” I said, still in pain.
Nikky plucked two herbs that I could barely see because I was in too much pain.
“Chew this now, before we start talking of this mysterious man that triggered you,” She said, handing a mixed herb to me.
I snatched it from her hurriedly and ate it. My face turned into a frown because of the bitter taste, but I had no choice but to chew it.
Within a few seconds, my headache stopped, and I regained consciousness fully.
“You said you wanted to see how the outskirts of the pack were, and you came back looking like this?” El asked rhetorically, gesturing toward my sick appearance. I nodded at her before trying to get to my feet, but Nikky pushed me down.
“You won’t do any such thing, gain some strength, and while you are at it, tell us who you saw that triggered you?” Nikky ordered, I may be her mother but I have gotten used to how she orders.
“Have you forgotten who you are talking to, young lady,” I scolded her. I may have gotten used to how she orders, but I didn’t appreciate it regardless, especially when she was talking to me, her mother.
“Mum, can you give me some slack, drop a little bit of your ego, and let’s focus on the problem, which is your problem,” She said, rolling her eyes at me; she must have gotten that character from her father, who I don’t even know.
“I saw a man today, he called my name and looked at me like he knew me or something, but I have never seen him, although I felt like I belonged to him,” I said, trying to explain the bonding I felt, but I wasn’t able to put it in words.
“What is the man’s name?” Nikky asked, trying not to look tensed, but she was tensed anyway. She feared that the man might be an enemy, and if he found out I was alive, they would come for me.
“He said his name is Burke and I look like his wife, although I felt I was his wife,” I said, not finding the right words to express my feelings.
“You met Burke?” Nikky and El said simultaneously, not taking their eyes off me for a second.
“Yes, do you know him?” I asked, and it was a stupid question because their body language said that they knew him and they knew him personally.
“So you entered a personal conversation with him?” Nikky and I shook my head in response, her face dropped into a frown.
“When he called my name, I ran as fast as I could, I was afraid he was the enemy you guys keep telling me about,” I explained, getting up on my feet.
My headache had drastically reduced, and I could feel my arms and legs again.
“Can we continue with our tour, that’s why we left the house in the first place,” I said, and Nikky shook her head.
“We left the house because Ava is coming to burn the house down in an attempt to burn El alive,” She retorted, walking ahead of me; El strolled behind us, not concerned about our conversation.
“How do you know that?” I inquired and she shrugged her slender shoulders.
“I always eavesdrop on her conversation with Harley; they want El dead because they think El is working with me,” She said, and I nodded my head.
“That’s not far from the truth; you are working with El. They may be evil, but they are smart,” I complimented, and Nikky gave me a glare; she hated them, and any compliment about them disgusted her.
“You know, you are always smarter than they are, and you think faster than them too,” she said, and I scoffed.
“I appreciate the compliment,” I said, in a chuckle.
“It’s not a compliment; it’s a fact; you can beat them at their own game; I’m not trying to rain praises on you; you have done it before,” She continued, making me wonder where she was going with this.
“If there’s a problem, Nikky, you can always tell me rather than speaking in parables,” I said, and she rolled her eyes again.
“I know you need time to regain your memory, Mum, but we are running out of time; you need to regain your memory and fight for your pack,” She half yelled, looking exhausted.
“I’m trying my best, Nikky; I wake up every day hating myself for being a burden to you and El and trying different exercises but to no avail; what should I do?” I asked, rubbing my eyes, and trying to think of a plan.
“There’s a way I can make you regain your memory, but it’s risky; we will have to wait,” She whispered; as she continued walking, I held her in place and swung her to look at me.
“It’s better I die trying to regain my memory than I don’t regain it at all. Do what it takes, Nikky,” I ordered her, looking very determined.
“I can’t, Mum, you might die,” She whispered.
“At least there is a chance of survival, we are doing it,” I stated, leaving Nikky to look at me in surprise.
