CHAPTER NINETY-SIX
CATHERINE’S POV
Nikky then smiled at me, thrashing the herb on the floor.
“Wow, way to go, Catherine, you are getting your memory back,” Nikky hailed, still smiling at me.
Nikky acts like a grown-up, and I would have believed she is a grown-ass woman stuck in a child’s body, but she isn’t; she is still a little child.
“You did that; you helped me remember my past without triggering my memory or putting pressure on me,” I said; it was a sudden realization.
She smiled at me and just shrugged her little shoulders.
“I think we should head back home now; the weather doesn’t look friendly,” Nikky said as the cloud changed its color to black. It was looking like it would rain heavily.
“Yes, let’s get going,” I stated, as Nikky grabbed my hand.
“Where do you always go? You don’t stay in the coven,” I said, and she nodded her head.
“I stay in the pack with my dad and my wicked aunty,” She whispered, making me wonder why the sudden change in the volume of her voice.
“Are you a werewolf?” I asked, whispering back to her, as we walked cautiously, not wanting to make too much noise. I didn’t know her reasons for doing that, but I did it anyway.
“Nope, I am a witch; I didn’t know that till the day my mother died,” She stated, looking everywhere for something, or would I say Someone?
“How did you know that?” I asked, as my big eyes wandered around the forest for whatever Nikky was searching for.
“I saw it in a vision; I saw when my mother was brought into the coven by a detective in a vision,” She replied to my question reluctantly, I could guess she was always thinking of other things, but I don’t know what.
“Oh, I’m sorry about your mother’s death,” I said, sympathetically.
Nikky never told me her mother was dead, but I felt like it, and I think I was correct because if her mother was in the coven, I would see her on some occasions.
“I take that as an offense, who says my mother is dead?” She asked, almost Yelling, she wore a frown on her face as she gave me a stern look.
“I’m sorry, it’s because I haven’t seen her before, I thought she was dead, you hardly…”
“Shush, I need absolute quietness, Catherine,” Nikky said, raising her hands for me to keep quiet, and that felt familiar.
“Did you get that from your father?” I asked, ignoring all the morals I held, not to dig into their personal life.
“Yes, people say so, but how do you know that?” She asked, perfectly arching her eyebrows. I knew she also got that attribute from her father, but I don’t know how I knew.
“I don’t know, I just feel you are a replica of your mother with a lot of your father’s characteristics, even if I don’t know you,” I said, smiling at her as we walked.
“That’s a very smart one, Catherine, you have got good brains,” Nikky complimented and I feel my cheeks reddened because of her compliment.
Suddenly Nikky bent down, and some trees were covering us. I bent along with her, not knowing her reasons for bending.
“Is there a problem, you have been acting strange,” I whispered, as fear took the better part of me.
“Don’t be afraid; we are being followed,” She stated, noticing my face; witches are the best at reading body language.
“How… How did you know we were being followed,” I stuttered, as fear took the better part of me.
“I told you, Catherine, I am a witch; I can feel it when we are being followed; it’s just in my little blood,” She said, giggling at me.
I wondered how she had the confidence to giggle when we were being followed, and if we were caught, we would be killed.
“So why don’t we fucking run off, than wait here for the spy to kill us,” I suggested, my fear was increasing.
I became very conscious of the environment as fear went down my spine.
“We can’t run because I want to know who is following me, with that I’ll be able to get who sent the person and be more careful,” She said, And suddenly we saw a man, looking around, probably looking for us.
“Shit, that’s Ava’s guard, we have to go, come on,” She said, lifting me from the ground.
“Try to walk without making a noise; I can’t let them see your face,” She whispered, and I did as instructed till we left the garden.
“That was a close one,” Nikky lamented as we got out of the forest and started heading back to the hut.
“Who is Ava?” I asked because the name sounded familiar, but I had no memories of any event with the person.
“Oh, she is my wicked aunty, do you remember anything about her?” Nikky asked although I felt it was a rhetorical question because why the fuck would I know her aunty when we aren’t related.
“I wasn’t asking myself the question, Catherine,” she said; after many minutes of silence, I shook my head in denial.
We walked to the hut in silence, and soon we were at the door.
“Open up, we are back,” Nikky yelled, knocking at the door loudly. I was even scared it might attract the person who was following us earlier.
“I thought you people wouldn’t come again; you took forever,” El whined as she opened the door for us.
“Don’t worry, she always nags like that,” Nikky whispered, making me chuckle.
El opened the door, and we rushed inside before she closed the door.
“We were being followed,” Nikny broke the news to her, making El gasps in shock.
“I told you it isn’t safe, at least not yet,” El complained, sitting back in her usual chair, which was opposite the bed we slept on.
“It wasn’t something I could not handle El, besides she remembered some things,” Nikky announced excitedly, and El looked at me with surprise.
“Yes, El, I remembered. I am a doctor, who is based in Chicago,” I said, bragging about my new findings.
“You see, El, it wasn’t for waste; Tylers never say never,” Nikky said, chuckling.
“What? Can you say that again?” I asked, as her words triggered my memory.
“I said, Tylers never say never,” Nikky repeated herself.
“My mum always says that,” She added, and my mouth fell open.
“Are you Nikky Tyler?” I asked, not sure if my observation was correct.
Nikky nodded her head in response and I opened my mouth in surprise.
El told me that my name is Catherine Tyler, is this a dream?
“Am I your… ”
“Yes you are my mother,” Nikky answered before I could finish my statement.
