CHAPTER EIGHTY-SEVEN
BURKE’S POV
I lay on my bed, still thinking of the last time Catherine and I kissed, at our supposed wedding day; if I knew I wouldn’t be seeing her again, I would have never let her go that day.
Today was another board meeting that I needed to go to because I had been absent for over three weeks. The last person I talked to was Emma, about the fact that I am still feeling the mate bond with a dead person.
“The moon goddess has gone crazy,” I said to myself, rubbing my chest gently.
“Your bath is ready,” A maid said, coming out of my bathroom; I nodded my head at her before she left.
I haven’t seen the kids since Catherine’s burial, because I have chosen to lock myself up in my room, but they are in good hands, that I’m sure of.
“Another day to be Alpha,” I said to myself, getting off my bed.
I walked to the bathroom to take a quick shower, trying to forget about my heartache, but it was to no avail.
Soon, I was done with bathing; I tied a towel around my waist and got out of the bathroom only to see Diago sitting on the chair opposite my bed and a blond girl standing beside him with her head bent down.
“The Alpha is done bathing; I was thinking it would take you forever, Man,” Diago said as he crossed his legs.
I rolled my eyes at him. I didn’t like the fact that he thought we were friends because Catherine and Jack were dead and he thought I was alone.
“What if I came out without a towel, Diago? In fact, who let you into my room?” I asked rudely, and Diago just shrugged his shoulders, ignoring how rude I was.
“If you came out naked, that wouldn’t be a problem because Daciana’s head is bent down, she wouldn’t even see a damn thing, Alpha,” Diago replied to my question.
I turned to the girl, wondering who she was and what she was doing in my room, wearing a short seductive dress. She looked beautiful in the dress, but I couldn’t say the same for her face because her head was bent down.
“Who the fuck is Daciana, and what is she doing here?” I asked sternly, resting my bare back on the wall, with my eyes still fixed on Daciana.
“He finally acknowledged her. Thank you, Alpha,” Diago said, ignoring my question.
“That’s not the answer to my question, Diago; who the fuck is Daciana, and what is she doing here?” I thundered at Daigo and immediately he stood to his feet, seeing how serious my face was.
“Daciana is my Younger sister who is ready to get married, Alpha Burke,” He said, and his answer made me confused.
“If she is getting married, I think that should be between you and your dad; it is none of my business, except this is an invitation to the wedding,” I stated, clearing my throat; I took a glimpse of Daciana again before looking back at Diago.
“It is your business because you are getting married to Daciana,” he said and I burst into a round of laughter.
Daigo had chosen a fucking wife for me when Catherine’s body isn’t yet cold in the grave.
“The pack needs a Luna; you can’t rule without a wife. They are planning to rip you off your position, thereby ripping me off my position too, and I am still happy being your right-hand man,” Diago explained, ignoring my laughter of mockery.
“And you think getting married to your sister two weeks after Catherine’s death would help?” I asked nonchalantly, still choking on my laughter.
“Yes, Daciana would make a good wife and Luna of this pack,” He said, very sure of his sister’s status; I wanted to laugh again, but I held my laughter back.
“Raise your head,” I ordered Daciana and she did exactly as she was told.
“Fucking hell Diago, she is still a freaking child,” I half yelled at Diago for trying to sell his little sister, who is barely fifteen.
“Alpha Burke, you don’t know what is at stake, our position in the pack…”
“Get the fuck out of my room,” I yelled at Diago before he could complete his statement.
“Please, Alpha Burke, make me your bride, and I’ll do right by you,” Daciana spoke for the first time; she didn’t mean whatever she said; she was just scared of her brother.
“Get out,” I yelled at Diago, Ignoring his sister’s plea. I didn’t want to yell at the little child, it would frighten her.
Diago went to where his sister was and dragged her by the hand, holding her tightly.
“Please,” Daciana pleaded, grimacing in pain.
“If you don’t get your hands off her and treat her like a woman, I’ll make sure to strip you of your post and take you to the north Turret,” I threatened Diago.
Diago released her hand immediately, and it was red. He knows better than to disrespect my rules and orders.
Diago gave me one last look before leaving my room with his sister behind him.
When they were gone, I felt very angry at myself for not punching Diago in his face, for bringing his little sister for me to get married to after two weeks of Catherine’s death.
I stopped thinking of what transpired a while ago and started preparing for the board meeting.
Soon, I was in a black suit jacket and black pants, with my hair slipped backward.
I got out of my room and it felt like the first time in several years. Quickly, I got to the board meeting room and entered it.
Everyone stood in respect of my presence.
I took a seat in front of everyone sitting at a round table.
“A lot has happened in your absence Alpha,” The counselor said, as he stood up.
“What happened?” I asked, confused.
“The pack had been infected with a syndrome called wolf’s everlasting, and it is a curse from the witches,” He said, and I ushered him for more explanation.
“This syndrome deprives us of turning back to humans forever when infected with it, and if we stay as wolves for more than six years without transforming, we die,” He said, and my eyes widened in surprise.
“The worst of them all is that the witches made it airborne, not even our kids are safe,” Diago added,
What did we do to the witches that they placed a curse on us, and aside from that, what the fuck are we going to do about this?
“We can’t fight the witches; they are way more powerful than us; what do we do now? If this syndrome spreads, we would all die,” I said, and a smile came to the counselor’s lips; it looked like there was a cure.
“Luckily Alpha, there is a cure for it,” He said, and I smiled at him upon hearing that.
I gestured for him to continue.
“The only thing is that the pack doesn’t have a Luna; we need the blood of the Alpha and the Luna to purify the air again,” He said, and I was dumbfounded.
