CHAPTER EIGHTY-TWO
AVA’S POV
“Cheers,” I said to Harley as we clicked our wine glasses, which were filled with the most expensive wine in the pack.
“Finally, we are closer to being the rulers,” Harley said, sipping her wine.
Watching Catherine’s house burn was satisfying, hearing the screams from where we were was more satisfying.
“You did a good job on this one, Harley,” I said because I was reluctant to give Harley the duty of setting Catherine’s house on fire, thinking she might blow up the last chance we had to kill Catherine, but luckily, she didn’t.
The fire burning faster, and we had to wait till the house was completely Burnt, I didn’t want anyone to save her sorry house, or come as a rescue team
“So what’s next?” Harley asked, lighting a cigarette, and taking a drag from it.
I kept her silent for a while; telling Burke about Catherine’s death was the major thing we were supposed to be talking about. Burke would certainly go into depression for days, and Harley would be a good shoulder to rest on if we play our cards right.
“Breaking the news to Burke is what we are supposed to be talking about right now; Catherine dying on their wedding day would be very hard news to break to Burke,” I said after minutes of silence.
“I’ll be a good shoulder to rest on,” She said, reading my thoughts.
“Wait, what about his kids?” She asked, passing the cigarette over to me.
I took it from her, and took a drag from the cigarette, spraying the smoke in the air aimlessly, making it mix with the smoke coming from Catherine’s burning house.
“They are burning with her, and her useless vampire maid, Susan is burning with her too. I hated the fact that Burke allowed her to stay in our pack,” I said, and Harley looked at me with a question in her eyes.
“How do you know, they are inside with her? Them being alive would weaken your chance of becoming Alpha,” Harley reminded me, and that was true; my chance of being Alpha would be reduced because Burke had a son or rather two sons.
“They all lived together, Harley; I did my research before ordering their death,” I told Harley, and she felt relaxed hearing that.
The house was already burning to the ground as we enjoyed the view. Catherine’s body would have been roasted at this point, and I felt joy just thinking about her burnt body.
“Did I come late to witness her death,” Jaxon said, as he circled his hands around my waist.
“Yes, baby, you are late, but you can still enjoy the remaining view,” I said as I kissed him on the lips.
Luckily, Catherine had not said anything about the fact that she heard Jaxon’s voice from my room a while ago, or maybe she had a plan, but I killed her before she could execute it.
“That’s disgusting, get a fucking room, you ex-fiancee is getting burned and you are enjoying the view,” Harley groaned at him, not hiding her hatred for Jaxon, she felt he would turn his back on us the way he did to Catherine but I don’t feel he would do that, he left his family in Chicago for us.
“I never loved her,” Jaxon said, withdrawing from our kiss. He talked very respectfully to Harley, afraid that she might lose her cool one day, and snapped his head from his neck.
“You need to show some respect when talking to my man, Harley,” I cautioned her, and she rolled her eyes at me.
We watched the house till it burnt to the ground as we drank our wine, smoked our cigarettes, and rejoiced at our first victory.
We needed to make sure the bodies were burnt and dead, so we entered the burnt house.
“I can find only one body here,” I said to Harley, looking at the burnt body on the floor.
“Ava, you said they were all in the house, so we are supposed to have five bodies here; why is there only one burnt fucking body,” Harley yelled at me, ignoring the fact that I was in shock too.
Where are her kids? They didn’t live with my brother at the mansion, they stayed with Catherine, including her maid.
Jaxon bent down and saw the mark on the body’s left hand.
“This is Catherine’s body,” He said, showing us the mark.
I was at peace that Catherine was dead, but I needed that Vampire girl out of my way, or else she would expose me; Vampires can read minds.
“Fuck, I thought I had this under control,” I yelled at no one in particular as I left Catherine’s burnt premises into the forest, where we stood to watch the house burn.
“You need to relax, The most important thing is that Catherine is dead,” Burke said, putting an assuring hand on my shoulder.
I did not know that he had followed me, so I turned to look at him, exhausted about the whole issue.
“I can’t be Alpha if Burke’s sons are still alive, don’t you get it?” I groaned, but Jaxon just smiled at me.
“They are kids, Ava; we can kill them easily using the Affliction; you told me it killed your father,” He said, and a smile crept to the corners of my lips.
This is a very good plan; killing them using the Affliction would break Burke, and he might even commit suicide.
“Have I ever told you that you are the best, among all the guys I have ever dated,” I said to him, coming closer to him till my breast touched his chest.
“Is that so? Then prove it,” He said huskily, grabbing me by the butt.
I tiptoed so I could reach his height, and as I was about to kiss him, I heard footsteps from behind us.
“Who is there?” I asked, afraid that we were already caught.
“Did you hear that?” I asked Jaxon and he nodded in response.
“Were we being followed and watched?” I asked myself when I heard the footsteps again.
I turned in the direction I heard it from and saw a man running away.
“Fuck, that must be one of Emma’s guards; get him,” I yelled at Burke, pointing in the man’s direction.
