CHAPTER SEVENTY-FIVE
CATHERINE’S POV
I was in Susan’s room, and she was in the bathroom, so I waited patiently till she came out.
I went to the kids’ room first, and they were all sleeping soundly; luckily, Jaxon didn’t get to them, so I made sure to lock their room before leaving me.
Soon Susan came out of the bathroom with a towel tied around her chest, and she was startled when she saw me.
“Shit, I’m sorry for Starling you, dear,” I apologized, and she cooled off immediately.
“Your engagement party is not yet over, making me wonder what happened again, don’t tell me you rejected him again?” She asked sarcastically, smiling at me, when I didn’t return her smile, she turned her face to a serious look.
“What is the problem ma?” She asked, walking in my direction.
I rested my back on the wall and took a deep breath, exhausted from how things were turning out in the pack. Harley and Jaxon were after me.
“I saw Jaxon at my engagement party, Susan,” I blurted out, and her mouth dropped open.
“Where is Alpha Burke, why didn’t you tell him?” She asked, and I reasoned I had not told Burke before coming here, it skipped my mind.
“It didn’t occur to me, I need to go back to the engagement party and no one is at my kids’ room, that’s why I came here to ask if you are free, so you would watch over them, while I talk to Burke,” I said, hoping she wouldn’t refuse if she refused, I wouldn’t object because she had already done a lot today.
“That’s not a problem, ma. I need to get dressed quickly; just wait for me,” She said, walking to her wardrobe to get a dress to wear.
“Thank You, Susan, this means a lot to me,” I said, smiling at her.
I sat on an empty chair and waited patiently for Susan to get dressed, and it didn’t take long before she was dressed in a comfy night dress and the day was already long gone.
“I’m done,” She said, letting her wet hair down as it dripped on her shoulders, but she didn’t make any attempt to dry the hair.
“Okay then, let’s go,” I said, and we got out of Susan’s room.
“Did he see Alpha Burke?” She asked as we walked towards the kids’ room.
“No, he made sure I was alone before coming to me; I don’t know what he is doing in my pack and at my engagement party,” I said as we reached the room.
“Just wait here, I’ll go get Burke and get this over with,” I said, opening the door for her to enter.
“Ma, there is a problem,” She said, entering the room; I wondered if she was going to tell me she couldn’t stay with them.
“What’s the problem, Susan? If you can’t stay with them, there’s no problem; I’ll just… ”
“No ma, Nikky isn’t here,” Susan cut me off before I could speak, and when I looked at Nikky’s bed, she was gone. I thought I locked the room, only my kids’ have the spare key to their room.
“What the hell?” I screamed as I rushed out of the room to get Burke.
I got to the living room and found Burke dining with the Lycan king as they laughed at different wars and battles they had won.
“I need to steal him for a second,” I told the Lycan king, ignoring the questioning look Burke gave me; it looked disrespectful to disrupt the Lycan king’s discussion with Burke, but I had no choice; my daughter was missing.
“That’s not a problem,” The Lycan king said, and before they could end their discussion, I dragged Burke away.
“Catherine, I love you, but that was kind of disrespectful; I’ll have a lot of explaining to do,” He said, and I rolled my eyes at him.
“I didn’t ask for an elaborate engagement party, do you know what you have caused?” I asked, blaming him because this was kind of his fault.
“What is the problem?” He asked as we walked upstairs.
“Jaxon is at this engagement party, Nikky is missing,” I stated, almost yelling at him.
“Is this a joke? Jaxon cannot be here because the only people who were given an invitation are board members, Alphas of different packs, and the Lycan king; how the hell did Jaxon know this pack?” Burke ended his statement with a question.
“That means Harley’s accomplice is a part of the board member or your sister,” I said, and he looked at me sternly, angry at the fact I was accusing his sister.
“I’m sorry for calling her name; I’m just looking for who to point fingers at,” I said, and he nodded his head.
We were headed to Ava’s room to tell her about the occurrence when we saw Ava and Nikky.
“Stay in your darm lane, okay? I already hate your mother,” Ava yelled at my kid, pushing her away from her room.
“What is going on Ava,” Burke said before I could reply.
Ava closed her door quickly, looking suspicious.
“She just stormed into my room unannounced, and it was very pissing,” She said, and I took Nikky into my arms; I checked her body to see if she was hurt, and she wasn’t.
“If you ever lay your filthy hands on my child again, you will hate the consequence of your action,” I threatened and took Nikky away, leaving Burke to scold his sister, I have done enough scolding.
Soon, I was in their room; I pushed it open and found Susan pacing everywhere in the room in worry.
“We found her,” I announced and Susan ran to give Nikky a tight hug.
“Where have you been, Nikky? You got us worried,” Susan said, giving Nikky a peck on her head.
“I went to look for mummy when I heard Jaxon’s voice coming from Ava’s room,” Nikky said, still hugging Susan, not ready to withdraw from the hug.
Immediately, Susan withdrew from the hug and I stared at her in surprise.
“Then what happened?” I asked, and Nikky looked up at me.
“She said he wanted to kill someone, I pushed the door open, and I saw Jaxon, the lady he was with when you were at the pack, the lady that tried to kidnap me, in the room with Ava,” She said, and I knew she was talking about Harley and Sereca.
“Mam, I think they are plotting to kill you,” Susan said and my mouth dropped open.
