CHAPTER SEVENTY-FOUR
AVA’S POV
Of course, I brought Jaxon out of prison before leaving Chicago; it had to be the greatest task I have ever done because the prison was well guarded; I think my face and that of Jaxon would be placed everywhere in Chicago.
“Did she know it was you?” I asked Jaxon as he entered my room. I knew it was risky, but there was nothing I could do.
“Yes, she did; I told you she is fucking smart,” He said, removing the face mask and jacket he was made to wear so that he doesn’t reveal his face.
I smiled at him, knowing that Catherine was already getting to understand that a great danger was about to befall her and the kids, within a few moons.
“Did you call me to watch how your brother engages another girl or what?” Serena asked, taking a cigarette from Harley, they had grown close, and Serena made her intentions known; she didn’t want Burke back; she only wanted to be able to bring her kids back to the pack where they belonged.
“You know bringing us here is a risky move,” Harley said, spraying cigarette smoke into the air aimlessly.
“Of course I do; I didn’t have a choice; Jaxon needed to pass a message, and Emma’s men are following me everywhere I go, meaning we would get caught if I went to your old-looking house,” I explained, sitting at the edge of the bed.
“Then you wouldn’t have killed Mike; he would have been guarding the darm door,” Harley added angrily.
Mike is dead, and I killed him because he was going to snitch; he kept saying he felt guilty and wanted to make things right, and I can’t let that happen, not when I have not gotten what I wanted yet.
“He was a pussy; we need strong men; at least we have Jaxon,” I said, smiling at Jaxon.
“The human guy isn’t strong; he’s a pussy too; you don’t just want to admit that,” Harley said, sarcastically, making Jaxon uncomfortable.
He didn’t reply to her hate comment, because he was afraid of Harley, he is a pussy, and I hate the fact that I’m in love with a pussy, who I have to defend ever my darm time.
“He is a strong man; forget the fact that he is Human,” I said, not believing my words; Sereca and Harley burst into a round of laughter, pointing in Jaxon’s direction, so stood by the door speechless.
“What is fucking funny? I get the fact that you all don’t like him, but he has been useful since,” I yelled angrily; it was annoying. They made the man I love a laughing stock, and it was more annoying because he stood there like a pussy and didn’t defend himself.
“He can’t even fuck; how would you expect him to be strong, Ava,” Sereca said; I initially forgot Jaxon and Sereca once had a thing Because Sereca was trying to pay Catherine back for taking her man and also trying to make Jaxin love her thinking he was a rich person.
I hated the fact that they were right, because I loved him, and he feels the same way for me.
“Can we keep our heads in the fucking game and forget about your thoughts,” I yelled, and they nodded in response, still giggling with each other.
Soon a knock sounded on my door.
“Who is it?” I asked, taking my pink purse; I needed to go downstairs; congratulations, the couple, and I think it was the guard that was knocking at my door.
“Alpha Burke requested your presence at his engagement party,” The guard said, and I rolled my eyes.
“I’ll be right back, don’t do anything stupid,” I said in a whisper, pointing at the three of them.
I left my room but made sure to lock it before leaving.
I went downstairs and Catherine wasn’t in her chair, although Burke was by the corner talking to Emma.
I walked towards them, holding a glass of alcohol.
“Hello, brother, I’m so proud of you,” I said, giving him a tight hug, and he almost choked.
“I know you are, can he release me from this hug?” He asked, laughing as we withdrew from the hug.
“Hi Emma, hope you are doing great?” I asked, smiling, but she returned my smile with a frown, making me wonder if she already knew I killed her husband. Her men following me around were already suspicious, although I pretended like I didn’t know she was doing that.
“I’m doing great, Ava; I’ll leave you two so you guys can catch up,” She said and exited herself, leaving my brother and me alone.
“Are you certain she is the one? This is going to be your second marriage, make sure it’s worth it,” I said, looking at him with puppy eyes.
“I know you care about me too much, but I know she is the one, I have been waiting for her a long time,” Burke said, raising his glass of wine to his lips and taking a sip.
“Cheers to that,” I said, as we clicked our glass together.
“By the way, where is Catherine?” I asked, looking around for her, I just wanted to pick on her and remind her she was still a whore even though she was engaged to the Alpha.
“She is with the kids, I guess,” Burke said, and I nodded my head.
After exchanging pleasantries with everyone in the room, I decided to go back to the room and strategize over Catherine’s death.
Soon I was back in the room, and everyone was sitting where I left them.
“What is the plan, Ava? I’m tired of planning without getting a good result,” Harley said after a few minutes of silence; she was already giving up, although I felt this plan was going to work and we would get what we needed.
“Catherine and her kids are staying outside the mansion till they get married in the next three moons,” I said smiling, as I dropped my purse on the bed.
“And how do you know this is true?” Sereca asked.
“I have good ears around this Mansion,” I replied to her question.
“When she leaves this Mansion for her new home, it would make killing her even easier,” I said excitedly, but my smile disappeared when I heard the next voice.
“Make killing who easier?” The voice questioned and I stood frozen.
“Shit I forgot to lock the door,” I said to myself.
