CHAPTER FIFTY-NINE
CATHERINE’S POV
“Mummy, didn’t you see the man that tried to save me? I kept tapping you to look his way while those hefty men were taking him out of the hospital surrounding,” Nikky asked, looking at me with her big round eyes.
“No baby, I could not see his face. Clearly; the hefty man covered more than half of his face,” I told her while we entered my car.
The man looked very much like Burke, although I don’t think it’s Burke. I am missing Burke too much; now everyone looks like him.
“He called your name multiple times and asked me if you were my mother, saying I look exactly like you,” Nikky said as I geared the car back to life.
“Are you certain about that?” I asked her, looking at the back to see her facial reaction. I wanted to know if that was one of the multiple pranks she played, but she was serious about it.
“Shit, people from Crescent Pack are after my life,” I muttered to myself.
I knew the person we met at the hospital was Harley; I recognized the birthmark on her right hand; I have that same birthmark on my right hand as well.
Harley might have been the one that gave my son multiple cuts and faked that he had attempted suicide; she was Lucky Ricky survived, and he is now okay; I’m heading home to coom some soup for him.
“What did the man say again?” I asked.
“He said nothing, but I didn’t tell him you were my mother, But he seemed like a nice person, is he your friend?” She asked, Popping some chocolates in her mouth.
I didn’t respond to that question because I was shocked at my daughter’s confession; Harley’s men aren’t nice people; probably they tried to trick Nikky by being nice, thinking she would come with them.
“Listen, I want the two of you to know that this city isn’t safe for us anymore, people are after our lives, so don’t ever follow Someone to a place no matter how nice the person is, is that understood,” I cautioned, because I might not be with them all the time, especially at school. I needed them to be safe.
“Yes, mum,” Dikky and Nikky chorused as I reached our house.
We got out of the car, and I took them into the house.
“Mum, you are leaving again?” Dicky asked, he looked frightened.
“Baby I have to get the equipment to fix Ricky’s room, I’ll just go to the Mall along the road, I won’t take too much time,” I said, looking at the both of them, but they were still scared, and their fear was understandable, I wished I had friends they could stay with but my best friend, Natasha betrayed me. Her son, Sam, was my children’s friend. Probably, they might have played at Natasha’s house.
“What if the bad people come again, Can we go play with Sam?” Nikky asked, with fear in her eyes.
“Sam lives with Jaxon now because Jaxon is his father. Do you want to see Jaxon?” I asked, and they shook their heads in disgust; they hated Jaxon with passion.
“You two should stay in my room and lock the door; if anything is happening, make sure you make an alarm so the neighbors can hear you,” I said, and they nodded in response.
I took them to my room, ensured my windows were locked, brought some toys for them, and locked my room. I also ensured to lock the door properly before entering my car.
“I need to be as fast as possible,” I said to myself as I geared the car back to life, and zoomed into the street.
My heart wasn’t settled and I drove with speed, so I would be back to my kids in time.
“What if Nikky saw Burke?” I questioned myself as I entered the shopping mall.
I kept on thinking about Burke since I left the hospital, my mate bond was stronger by the day, as if Burke was in Chicago, although I knew he was here because he is the fucking Alpha if he has a job to do here, he had a lot of men to help with it.
I shoved the thought of Burke off my head as I got down from my car; although it didn’t leave my head; again, Burke was living rent-free in my fucking head.
“Please I am in search of the electronics stand?” I asked the receptionist, who was smiling widely, and I think it was fucking hurting her to smile that way.
“Just take a straight turn to your left; you will see it,” She explained, pointing in the direction with both hands Like she was given a difficult task.
“Thank you,” I appreciated as I followed the part she had instructed.
“You are welcome,” She said, although I could barely hear her.
I walked in the direction she said, but I couldn’t find the electronics stand; rather, it was a men’s outfit that was there.
“She pointed the fucking wrong direction to me,” I said to myself angrily. The mall was a huge one, and it was hard to find the electronics stand; I looked around to check if someone was there, but it was empty. I was the only one standing in the men’s outfit section.
“Fuck me, I can’t go back to the receptionist center, it too fucking far,” I muttered to myself angrily, waiting patiently for a customer to come into the men’s section, so I’ll ask for directions, hoping they would know the direction of the electronics stand.
“I think this looks good on you,” I heard a man’s voice say; I turned immediately and saw two men checking out some outfits.
I ran to where they were and tapped one on the shoulder.
“Please, I am in search of the electronics stand?” I asked politely, looking at the man’s horrible shoe, why would he wear a shoe as ugly as that?
“Catherine?” The man asked, and I looked up immediately, and my eyes widened.
“Burke,” I said, shocked.
Before I could say another word, Burke captured my mouth with his.
