CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT
AVA’S POV
I could not believe my ears, as Harley and Mike stood there telling me that they weren’t able to get Catherine’s daughter.
“It was a simple task, Harley; how the fuck did you let the Boy and the girl go?” I yelled; immediately, Harley and Mike kept quiet.
I walked everywhere around the hotel room, fuming in anger. The plan was supposed to be simple, but since I started walking with Harley, all my plans have been failing, she was too dumb to abide by the plans.
“The boy would have implicated us. He was about to yell for help, and someone started knocking on his door,” Mike tried to explain, but I raised my hands to his face, meaning he shut his mouth.
“The plan was simple, take one of Catherine’s children back to the pack, thereby creating a distraction, and then frame Burke up for it, which will make her hate Burke, it was simple Herlay, why couldn’t you all deliver a good ass job,” I yelled and they kept quiet. I always thought Harley was a brilliant and smart-ass killer queen, but she wasn’t. She was so dumb and could barely deliver.
“What happened happen wasn’t my fault; we tried our fucking best, Ava, don’t raise your voice at us; besides, there is more to it,” Harley said, sitting on the hotel chair.
We had booked a hotel that was close to Burke’s hotel, so we could monitor his movement, and that had been going well, not until today when Harley fucked up.
“What happened Harley?” I asked angrily; although I was trying to cool Myself down, it wasn’t helping; my wolf was taking the better part of me already.
“When we were on the run, we ran into Burke,” Harley said, and my mouth fell open.
“I thought you said Burke was not going to her hospital today?” Harley questioned angrily.
I didn’t check if Catherine’s hospital was the next on Burke’s list because Harley was supposed to kidnap her child from their fucking house.
“You weren’t supposed to visit her hospital if you played your card right, Harley,” I yelled at Harley because she was trying to act like she was right.
“Did he suspect anything?” I asked and Harley nodded. Harley was about to blow our cover.
“He held the hem of my scarf, so I left for him and ran off,” She said as she wiped the makeup off her face.
“That was the dumbest thing to do, Harley,” I yelled; Harley was getting me exhausted.
“I know, Ava, but what was I expected to do? If I had waited any moment, I would have blown our cover,” She said in a pleading tone; she knew I was already pissed at her.
“Burke will make a quick guess that you are in Chicago. He will call his men from the pack, and they will be on a hunt for you, I hope you understand that,” I yelled, and she fell silent.
Soon a knock sounded on the door, and I jerked in shock. Had Burke successfully gotten our location?
“Who is there?” Mike yelled, I would have done the yelling, but Burke knew my voice; I can’t blow my cover like that.
“It’s Jaxon Pace,” the person behind the door said and Harley looked at me in shock.
“Jaxon is working for us now?” She asked confused.
“No, Harley, he is working for me,” I said and walked to get the door opened.
I felt that Harley would fuck things up again, so I gave Jaxon a job to drug Catherine’s son and bring him to me.
I opened the door, and Jaxon entered, panting heavily; I looked outside but could not find Catherine’s son anywhere.
“You didn’t get him too?” I yelled, locking the door; Jaxon shook his head; it looked like he had been running away from the cops, and unluckily for him, he didn’t have the strength of a wolf.
“I saw you in Catherine’s hospital,” Harley said, getting up.
“Yes, I oned the fire alarm when I saw you were in trouble and that was how I got into trouble too, while I was saving your sorry ass,” Jaxon said rudely and I got more vexed with Harley, she always had a way of spoiling things for me, even without her knowledge.
“Why is he even working for you, Ava? He is still in love with Catherine and probably the father of her kids,” Harley argued, angry at the fact that I brought another member into the team.
“He isn’t the father of Catherine’s children,” I stated, helping Jaxon up and carrying him to the bed; he was too exhausted to walk.
“Then who is?” Harley asked.
“Burke,” I said, and Harley stared at me in surprise. I was surprised as well when Jaxon told me Burke was the father of Catherine’s children, when I did the calculations, I figured out that it was true.
“That can’t be true,” Harley argued, not wanting to believe the truth; that was a state of denial; I was at that stage when I was told.
“Do the calculations, dumbass, Catherine left our pack seven years ago, and her kids are six years old, meaning she gave birth nine months after fleeing from Crescent Pack,” I said, and Harley could not cover her mouth for a long time.
It sounded like a joke at first, but it fucking team, Burke was a father and he didn’t know it.
“Why the fuck didn’t Catherine tell Burke about them when she came back to the pack, she had something up her sleeves then,” Harley said, as she began to fume with anger.
“That was exactly what I thought. We need to act smart, or she will outsmart all of us,” I said, and Harley turned to look at me with determination in her eyes.
“Do you have a plan?” She asked, walking towards me.
When she was close to me, and it was as if we were about to share a kiss, I whispered;
“Yes, I do; we are going to kill Burke in Chicago.”
