CHAPTER FIFTY-FOUR
BURKE’S POV
I have been in Chicago for the past three days without knowing Catherine’s whereabouts. I have checked almost all the hospitals in Chicago, but none were Catherine’s.
“Which other hospital is on our list? Because I’m getting exhausted, and I’m missing my wife,” Jack said, as he knotted his tie.
Jack insisted on coming with me that day. He gave his wife a short notice, and I was certain she would be very angry at him, and probably she would hate me too.
“We are going to the wellness center today; I regret not asking the guards where her hospital and house address were,” I said to Jack as I put on my boots.
This was the first time I was leaving the pack, and I didn’t expect Chicago to be this cold; everywhere was very cold, and Jack and I didn’t prepare for that because it was the first time he left the pack too.
“Today is another day to stand Chicago’s cold,” Jack murmured as he wore the only hoodie he brought by chance; unluckily for me, I didn’t bring a hoodie, instead I came with a lot of suits, and everyone stared at me while I walked on the road wearing my suit every day.
“I don’t think they love suits here,” I said, and Jack nodded in response.
Jack was wearing a suit, pants and a hoodie, he was looking very stupid, but we had little choice of outfit.
“You looked good,” I mocked, and he rolled his eyes, knowing I was being sarcastic.
“Don’t make me regret following you; you have fifty-seven days to find the woman you love,” he said as we left our hotel room.
I was very lucky to get a hotel room in Chicago because I took a lot of money along, I thought it was like our pack where we have a building for strangers and tourists, they don’t pay a dime to sleep there, in fact, we presented them with free food and water because it was an honor to be visited.
“I hope this hospital is the right choice because I am tired of this search, but I can’t give up,” I said, grumbling and Jack gave me a stern look.
“If you are giving up on Catherine, it means you are ready to get married to Harley; if that’s the case, why are we still on the hunt for Catherine,” he said with a scolding tone.
He knew I didn’t want to be with Harley, but he hated hearing me grumble at the fact I was tired of the hunt search I initiated; he left his family in the pack for this.
“I’m sorry okay, I’m just talking out of fear, I don’t want to get married to Harley if I don’t find Catherine in fifty-five days from now, I’ll step down from being Alpha, rather than enter a long-term commitment with Harley,” I said, with determination in my eyes.
“Have you always been this dramatic Alpha Burke?” Jack asked, amused.
He took it as a joke, but what he did not know was that I was very fucking serious; if I don’t find Catherine, then I’m stepping down for my uncle; I should step down than they remove me or Force me to enter another loveless marriage.
“We are heading to the Wellness Center. Do you know where it is?” Jack asked the taxi man as he got out of the hotel.
I looked at Jack’s feet, and it was pale, I looked at mine, too, and they were pale as well; it was like we were losing blood in Chicago.
“How did Catherine manage to stay here for Seven years,” I murmured, as we entered the taxi.
” Hope we have a long of money to take us there and bring us back?” Jack asked, making me remember what happened two days back.
I didn’t have enough money with me, so we had to walk to our hotel, which was miles away from where we were, If we were humans, we would have been at the hospital by now, luckily we aren’t, so we had to transform so we can walk there but we came back very tired. We were lucky we weren’t caught by any official who would have shot at us or would have taken us to the zoo for sightseeing.
“Yes, I do; we won’t have to transform,” I said in a hushed tone.
The ride happened to be a long one, and we weren’t still at the wellness center; Jack was already sleeping, but I couldn’t sleep; I kept asking the moon goddess to make this be Catherine’s hospital.
“How long is the ride?” I asked the taxi driver, after not less than twenty-five minutes of driving.
“We are almost there,” he stated, with an elderly voice.
Soon, we were at the hospital. I woke Jack up, and we got out of the Cab after paying for our charges.
“How do we ask about Catherine?” Jack asked as we stood in front of the hospital that had “Wellness Center” boldly written on it.
“Like we always did, Jack, let’s start with the gatekeeper,” I told Jack, and he headed towards the gate.
” Good day, one of Wellness Center’s Domestic staff, we are looking for a blond lady called Catherine,” Jack said and the man looked at Jack like he was angry at the way Jack had addressed him.
I have spent a few days in Chicago, and I can tell humans are too emotional; they take things too seriously.
“I’m sorry about my friend’s behavior, but we are looking for Catherine Tyler; she owns this hospital,” I said, and immediately the gatekeeper’s mood changed; he was more pleased with my manner of approach.
“I’m sorry, but according to the hospital policy, he can’t give you any information about anyone; please kindly ask the receptionist,” He said politely, and we nodded in response.
Just as I was about to leave the gatekeeper’s post, a little girl ran into me crying.
“I’m looking for my mother,” She said looking at me with her big round eyes.
And the only thing I could think of was Catherine because she looked exactly like Catherine.
