CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN
CATHERINE’S POV
I opened my eyes and found myself in Burke’s bed again.
“Ouch,” I whined as I held my head, it was hurting badly, and the pain in my stomach was adding to the hurt.
I wondered how long I had blacked out and tried to remember what brought me to Burke’s bed again.
“Mam, you are alright,” I heard Susan’s voice and turned to myself. I saw her Holding a tray of fruits, and I gave her a weak smile.
“What happened”? I asked her; my voice sounded weak and husky, and I could barely recognize I was the one talking.
“You were almost killed by Harley,” She said, and I remembered the event that happened and how Burke came to my rescue.
“Did they find her accomplice? That lady hurt me a lot?” I asked and Susan shook her head in response.
“Harley said she was alone, and the lady you saw worked for her,” Susan said, and I knew that was a lie.
The lady worked with Harley, not for Harley; I remembered when Harley wanted to fire at me, and the lady stopped her. The lady seemed to have greater power than Harley, and I hated the fact I didn’t know the lady.
“That’s not true; the lady was more careful than Harley. I didn’t have a chance to hear her voice or see her face; she is after my life, too,” I said. Susan came close to my ears, and she whispered.
” I suspect Miss Ava,”
I laughed at her assumption; Ava is the most stupid of the Michaelsons. She can’t even think of a kidnapping or murder plan, and she is frightened by blood; the lady who tortured me with Harley loved the sight of blood.
“Ava doesn’t have that kind of evil heart. I know your friend tells who you are, but Ava is an exemption; she got entangled with the wrong person,” I said, and Susan nodded in response; she didn’t want to argue with me.
“Are you feeling different?” She asked and I nodded in response.
I have been feeling a little different since I woke up; my head and stomach were hurting, but aside from that, I felt a load in my heart had been lifted.
“I feel something heavy was lifted from my heart,” I said, and Susan smiled widely like she intentionally wanted that to happen.
“last three weeks when you passed out… ”
“I have been bedridden for weeks?” I asked, yelling and Susan nodded in response.
“You have been out for weeks,” She said, and I widened my eyes; I didn’t know I had been out for that long; what about my kids and Jaxon? What happened to the letters they send every weekend?
“Your letters would be brought to you immediately, and your kids are fine,* Susan said, reading my thoughts.
“I’m sorry I read your thoughts,” she apologized and smiled at her; I wasn’t angry. She read my thoughts; I needed to know my kids were alright.
“As I was saying, you feel like that because Wolf’s bane you were injected with has been withdrawn from you,” She said, and my eyes widened in response to that; why the fuck would I be injected with Wolf’s band?
“Because Harley suspected you and Alpha Burke were mates, so when you passed out while taking that orange juice, she injected you with wolf’s band after drugging your drink with a memory loss herb she got from the witches,” She said, and I stared in shock.
“You read my thoughts again,” I scolded Susan, and she gave me an apologetic look.
But this news was still a surprise to me; this must be the reason I haven’t felt any mate bond with Burke since he had been feeling the mate bond.
Harley must have drugged the orange Juice unknowingly to Ava because I remember Ava was the one who presented the drugs to me.
“Hope Harley was taken to the north Turret, she deserves to die without concentration in her burial,” I said angrily.
“No mam, Harley was banished. Miss Ava couldn’t watch her best friend have that kind of fate. Besides, Harley never did anything to hurt her,” Susan said, and my anger reduced.
Ava was too soft-hearted, and I hope it isn’t used against her in the future, seeing how Harley uses her to try and get Burke.
Soon a knock was heard at the door, and I was hoping it would be Burke.
“I’ll get the door,” Susan said, walking towards the door.
She opened the door and it was a guard carrying three letters in his hands. I suspected they were letters sent by my children when I was unconscious.
Susan took the letters from the guard before shutting the door.
“Here are the letters from your children,” Susan said, giving the letters to me.
I took them from her hand and ripped them open hurriedly, all the letters read the same thing, it read;
“Mum when are you coming, I miss you,”
I turned the back of the letter and saw the diagram of a snake on each of the letters, which was the same way it was in the last letter I saw.
“My children are in trouble,” I said, trying to remove the drip from my hand and head to Chicago.
I could feel my children were in trouble, and probably Jaxon was the cause of the trouble because he didn’t send any words to Burke informing him of any trouble.
“Mam, you have to be calm; you will go back to Chicago once you are on your feet,” Susan said, trying to hold me in place; although I tried to struggle with her, she was way stronger than I was because she was hybrid.
“I want to see Burke now; I want to see him,” I yelled, losing my patience, although Susan still held me in place.
“I would call Alpha Burke, but you have to stay calm first; you aren’t alright yet,” Susan said, still holding me in place.
Soon the door opened and Burke entered the room, immediately my wolf started screaming;
“Mate, Mate,”
